The schr Oliver Ames, from Alexandria totVtmx-
dence. Waa struck bv lightning at Lewes Del night of
the 20th. It passed into the cabin, injuring the cap
tain in the foot. The vessel proceeded 220, apparently

served a heavy meteoric shower, commencing at mid-

Capt Oliver, of the ship Emma (Fr) reports: Got
•ground on last Monday on Sapelo. 4 miles from Wolf
Island, and came off Wednesday last; could not aay
what damage was sustained.
Captain McCullough, of the bark Margaret* Evans,
(Br) reports that he left the North Channel on the Oth
of October last; that on October 13, had a heavy blow
from W S W, which shifted suddenly to S W; on the
15th had a strong gale, with very heavy head sea; at 3
o’clock a m, a terrific gale with tremendous, squalls
and very heavy sea; at 6 o’clock am, a heavy sea

The stock of American cotton has been taken today
and declared to be 47,870 bales, or 29,630 bales over
too estimate.
Wo see by Meadows, Frost A Co.’b circular, dated
Liverpool. Nov. 6, x868, that the estimated stock of
American cotton lias been misrepresented. Upon ac
tual count we find there is 29,530 bales more than
was first' stated. The estimated stock was 18,310.

day. The transactions were small and of limited na
ture—only such cotton being bought to fill -previous
orders. Soma uneasiness was exhibited by sellers on
account of the non-arrival of advices from Iiverpool.
New York, at noon, showed a dull. market with prices
nominal; middling 25c.; our ,market closing quiet.
We quote Iiverpool middling, strict, 24c.
The following were the sales of the day: 17 bales at
24%, 32 at 23%, 52 at 23%; 18 at 23%, 7 at 23, 5 at 22%,
36 at 22, 33 at 20, fat 19, 7 at— cents. Total sales,
208 bales.
The receipts to-day amount to 2,799 bales.

steamer City of Boston, Capt Boskell, from New York,'
which carried them safely to Liverpool.

Bacon.—We continue our quotations, ‘and have
only to report a great scarcity In clear rib and ribbed
sides—a good inquiry for all other kinds. Holders
are firm, We quote shoulders at 14%@15%c, rib
sides at 17@17%c. and clear ribbed at 18%@18%c.
There are few clear sides offering, and * prices
are nominal at 18%@18%c. Hams are in large stock,
at lOfoilSc according to Quality. Breakfast bacon
is quiet, with a downward tendency, at 19@20c. Dry
salted meats are in better demand. We quote shoul
ders at 13@18%c; short clear sides, 17@17%cj short
ribbed, lp@16%c; belUes, 15%@16%c, and Stratford
cut at 16c.
Flour.—No change has taken place in prices
since our last report. The stock on the market is
large, and the demand light, but increasing. The feel
ing in Northern brands the same as our last report.
