groes oh the Ogeechee 'plantations,' and of
their jobbing and shooting nirtbe watchmen,
on the plantations of 'Major J. 'Mr Middleton
some, seventeen negroes with laroeny, and

some seventeen negroes with laroeny and
assault witk-intent. to murder, were issued by ;
Justice Philip JL-Russell, Jr., and placed in!
the hands of Sheriff Dooner, who intended
to execute them on Saturday-last, but was,
delayed. Knowing the desperats^-character
<pf many of many of these - Ogeechee ne-
. groes, and feeling confident that-they would
desperately resist being taken, by any civil
posse, Sheriff Dooner concluded to call upon
the military for aid. He, with other gentle
men, called upon Major Perkins, then com
manding this post, and he was famished with
an affidavit, of which theVhlowing is a copy:

The Steamer Endeavor,-—The steamer En- I
deavor, Captain R. E. Halter, of the United
States Coast Survey Service, arrived at this I
port yesterday, fiveand a half days-from New I
York[ via Norfolk. The vessel is on its way I
to Femandina, for a survey of. the bay; after I
which she goes upon an independent cruise. I
She is a very nice looking craft, and moves I
through the water in a speedy and graceful |
