PROPOSALS will be received at the office of the
commissioner of the revenue, for building a Light-
House on tbe south point of Sapelo Island, in Georgia,
of the following materials, dimensions and description:
The tower to be built of stone or bard brick —the
form round. The foundation to be sunk as deep as
may be necessary to make the whole fabric secure, to
be laid in good lime mortar. Tbe height of tbe tower
to be sixty five feet from the surface of the ground.—
The diameter of the base to be twenty-five feet, and
that of the top to be twelve feet. The thickness of
U>e walls at the base to be fix e feet; and to be uniform
ly graduated to two feet at the top. The lop to be
arched, on which is to be laid a deck of soap stone four
teen and a half feet in diameter, five inches thick, t lie
joints filled in with lead, on one side of which to be a
scuttle twenty four by twenty inches, to enter the lan
tern; the scuttle door an iron frame covered With cop-
The outside wall is to be well pointed and white
washed twice over. There are to be six windows in
the tower, of twelve lights each, of ten by eight glass,
in strong frames, and a door five feet by three feet,
made of double inch boards, cross nailed, with substan
tial hinges, lock and latch. The ground floor to be
paved xx ith brick or stone.
A sufficient number of circular stairs to lead from tbe
ground floor to within six feet of the lantern, connected
by a centre post, guarded by a good hand railing. The
stairs, summers and floors of each story to be made of
Georgia pine, clear of sap; the stairs amt floor to be two
inch plank, (planed.) From the top of the stairs to
the entrance of tlie scuttle to be an iron ladder, with
steps two and a half inches square. On the-top of the
tower to be an iron lantern of an octagon form, the
be two inches square, to run down five feet in
to the stone or brick \vork, and secured xvitb anchors.
‘I he heighth and diameter of the lantern to be sufficient
to admit an iron sash in each octagon, to contain iwentx -
one lights, of fourteen by twelve glass, the lower tier to
be filled w ith copper; the rabbits of the sashes to be
three quarters of an inch deep, and glazed with double
glass from the Boston manufactory. In one of the oc
togans to be an iron framed door, covered w ith copper,
four feet by tw o in the clear, to shut tight in the rabbits,
xvitli a strong turned button. The top to be a dome,
formed by sixteen iron rafters, concentrating in an iron
hoop five inches w ide and nine inches diameter, cover
ed with copper thirty two ounces to the square foot,
xvhich is to come down and rivet into the piece that
forms the top of the sash, which is to be three inches
wide. On the dome to be a traversing ventilator, two
and a half.feet long and fifteen inches diameter, on
which is to be secured a vane three feet long and twen
ty inches wide: the ventilator and vane to be framed
with iron, and covered with copper and painted black.
Around the lantern to be an iron railing, the posts of
w hich to be one and three-eighths of an inch square,
connected by railings three-quarters of an inch square,
the upper one to be four feet from the deck. The lan
tern and xvood work of the tower to be painted twice
ox er xvitli w hite lead, except the dome, xvhich is to be
black, and the whole tower to be painted in horizontal
stripes, ten feet wide, alternately red and white.
The light-house to be furnished with one complete
electrical conductor, three quarters of an inch in dia
meter, with points.
Thewholetobe completed in a workmanlike manner by
the first of July, one thousand eigiit hundredand twenty.
Separate proposals will be received for building a
frame dwelling house, one story of nine feet stud, thir
ty feet long by eighteen feet wide, to be divided by a
partition into txvo rooms, a parlour and bed room.—
Stairs to be made in the most convenient situation, to
communicate with the chamber or upper room. The
walls of the bouse to be boarded xvitli good inch pine
boards, feather edged. The nos to be lathed, and
shingled’ w ith good cypress sliiugles. The house to
have a g-ood chimney, with two fire-places, and iron
mantle trees; also, two outside doors and such inside
doors as are necessary to keep the rooms distinct and to
pass up to the the chamber; these are to be hung on
iron binges, with thumb latches, and the outside doors
to have good locks. A sufficient number of windows,
each with eighteen panes of eight by ten glass, with
shutters and fastenings. The inside walls and ceilings
to be lathed and plastered xvitli good lime mortar. All
the floors to be single, of one and a quarter inch pine
boards, the upper floor tongued and grooved, the lcxv
er one close jointed. The house to be well painted
xvliite, xvitli a double coat on the outside, the roof as
w ell as the walls. The out-house, or kitchen, to be
fourteen feet long by twelve feet wide, one story of
eight feet stud, divided by a partition into two rooms;
to have a chimney and an oven; two doors, (an outside
and an inside one) with a lock to one of them; to be
weather boarded and shingled as the other house; to
have tw o windows xvitli shutters, but ot glazed, and
the house not painted
Separate proposals will also be received for buillding
a brick dwelling house, thirty-four feet by twenty, one
story eight feet in the clear, the foundation of the walls
to be sunk as deep as is necessary to make the house
secure, and laid in lime mortar. The x\ alls to be one
foot thick. The roofto be rectangular. The house to
be divided into two rooms, with a chimney in the mid
dle, and an entry six feet xvide in front of the chimney
A fire place in each room, and closets back of the chim
ney. Stairs to lead from the entry into the chambers,
xvhich are to be partitioned off and lathed and plais
tered, and double floored, w ell nailed. The inside
wall and.ceiling to be lathed and plastered.. Three
windows in each room, each to contain sixteen lights,
ten by eight glass, and one of the same size in each
chamber. All the timber to be of Georgia pine, and
the boards to be well seasoned. The roof to be shin
gled with good cypress shingles. The doors to be all
four pannelled, to have good hinges and thumb-latches,
the outside door to have a good lock. Attached to the
house to be a porch, fourteen feet by twelve, the xvalls
brick tbe same as the house, double floor, the inside
xvalls and ceiling lathed and plastered, txvo window s,
txvelve lights each, ten by eight, txvo doors four pannel
led, one to lead into the house, and the other outside,
the doors to have good hinges and thumb latches. A
chimney with an iron crane, trammel and hooks; on
one side of the chimney an oven of a middling size xvitli
an iron door; on the other side a sink, xvith a gutter .0
lead through the brick wall, the roof to be covered the
same as the house; gutters on both sides of the house,
w ith spouts to lead off the water; an out-house, five feet
by four, boarded and shingled. All the wood work in
side and out, to be painted txvice over.
A xvell to be sunk sufficiently deep to procure good
water, at a convenient distance from the lig t house, to
be stoned or bricked, anti furnished xvith a curb, wind
lass, and an iron chain, and a strong iron hooped bucket.
Separate proposals xvill likewise be received for fitting
the said light house, on the principle of a revolving tri
angle, Within one month after it shall be built, with pa-
Uait lamps and reflectors, tin buts for keeping the oil,
and all the necessary apparatus, in the same manner as
the light houses of the United States have been fitted up
by Mr. Winslow Lexvis; the whole to be approved by
the superintendant of the establishment.
Persons disposed to contract xvill be pleased to trans
mit their proposals as above stated to the commissioner
of the revenue, or to the collector of the customs at Bos
ton, or to the collector of the customs at Darien, previ
ously to the 10th of June next, by whom they will be im
mediately thereafter forwarded to the treasury depart
ment, when notice will be given of the accepted offer.

Russell Fowler is indebted to him in the sum of nine hun
dred dollars by his two several bonds, drawn by the said
Russell Fowler, amounting to nine KTmdred dollars, and
that to secure the payment of the same, the said Russell
Fowler did, on the seventh dayof.lulx, one thousand
eight hundred and txvelve, mortgage all that tract ofland
granted to Janies f. ilder for three hundred and fifty
