PERHAPS tnere is nothing raor» calculated to
disgust the public eye than the innumerable
advertisement* ot nostrums that are constantly ap
pearing in the public prints. All are ready u> ex
claim, our souls are sick, our ears are pained with
every day’s reports of ills and specifics. This state
ot ihe public mind would seem to forbid any person
of delicate mind from sending forth any new dis
coveries in medicine, to the trial of the public.
Still, motives of delicacy should not prevent us from
making known real discoveries, which we are con
fident will benefit our fellow men. This latter
‘ consideration has prompted ihe author of these bit
ters to make them known. He knows they are high
ly efficacious, for he himself, his wife, and many
friends, have given them a thorough trial. He was
himself a confirmed dyspeptic, so much, that even
his recollection was gone. By using these bitters
he has been restored to health. Mre. Cosby was
troubled for many years, but was restored to health
, by the use of these bitters. This has been the case
with many of his friends. Mr. Cosby in sending
’ forth this advertisement, addresses tho.-e who know
him. Ho has been for many years a resident of

DR. E. SPOIIN, a German physician of much
note, naving devoted ms attention tor some
years to tne cure and removal of the ctuses of NER
VOUS AND SICK HEAD ACHE, has the satis
faction to make known, that he has a remedy which
by removing the causes cures effectually and perma
nently this distressing complaint. There are many
families who have considered Sick Headache a con
stitutional incurable family complaint- Dr. S. as
sures them that they are mistaken, and labouring
under distress which moy might not only alleviate,
but actually eradicated by the use if his remedy.
It is the result of scientific research, and is entirely
of a different character from advertised patent medi
cines, and is not unpleasant to the taste.
HEADACHE, SICK OR NERVOUS.
The extraordinary reputation that Dr. Spohn’s
remedy for this distressing compaiut is every day
gaining is certainly a matter ofmuch astonishment.
That so m ich suffering should have existed forages
without any discovery of an effectual preventiv ?, or
cure, is truly a subject of much regret but Dr. S.
now assures the public that such a remedy has been
invented as will convince Ihe most credulous. The
principles on w hich it acts are simple and plain. It is
an a milted fact that this complaint, whether called
Sick Headache, or Nervous Headache, arises prim
arily from the stomach —those who think they have
the Nervous Headache may rest assured that this
organ, the stomach, is the first cause, that th a sys
tem has become vitiated or debilitated, thiongh the
stomach, and that only through the same channel
must they expects restoration of the natural and
healthy functions ot the system. Tins object, Dr.
Spohn’s remedy is eminently calculated to attain.
The truth of this position cannot he controverted,
and the sooner sufferers with the headache become
convinced ofit, the sooner will their suffering end
in restoration of health, Ur. pledges his
prefessionai reputation on this fact. The remedy
may be had of apothecaries generally throughout
the United States.

f INHE great celebrity of this unrivalled Compo
j sition, especially in the Northern States, leaves
the proprietor but little need to say any thing in its
favor: for it has been generally conceded to it, that
it is beyond all comparison the best: remedy for rx
ternalcomplaints that has ever been discovered.
Indeed and certainly of iis operalions,
have the appearance of miracles : as ulcers, wounds,
corns, fever sores, chilblains, white swellings, biles,
piles, spider and snake bites, &c. &c., immediately
yield to its superhuman influence. Thus, it prop
erly applied it will remove an inveterate corn or
break and heal a bile in Jive days, will allay and
perfectly cure an ulcer in two weeks, and the most
desperate c w hite swelling that can be ima
gined have been dest oyed by it in Jess than two
months. In ihe bites of poisonous repiiles its effi
cacy is truly surprising, and if applied in time, its
powers of attraction are so wonderful that th?y will
at once arrest the poison and thus prevent it from
perva ling the system. It is likewise greatly supe
rior to any medicine heretofore discovered for the
chafed back and limbs of horses—for tetters, ring
worms, chapped lips—and in short, for every extei
nal bodily evil that may fall to the lot of man or
beast.

Dear Sir—My daughter,a girl of fourteen, was
sadly afflicted witn thecomp aim that physicians
termed a scald h< ad ; and J icared, indepe .dent of

Reverend Mr. Perrin, I applied your ointment to the
afflicted part; and 1 thank God that my child is
now entirely recovered from the disease, and is
getting her hair as fast as can be expected. The
cure was effected in lather less than two months;
during which time I used fiv dollars worth of oint

during the previous three years, without any benefit

you, is to learn w-ho is your authorised agent in this

to purchase it, having failed and gone out of busi

I'i'tHESE Pills are no longer among those of douht-
X fulutility. They have passed away from the
hundreds that are daily launched upon the tide of
experiment, and now stand before the public as
high ux reputation, and as extensively employed in
all parts of the United States, the Canadas, Texas
Mexico, and the West Indies, as any medicine tha‘
has ever been prepared for the relief of sulfering
man. They have been introduced wherever it was
found possible to carry them ; and there are but
few towns that do not contain some remarkable
evidences of their good effects. The certificates
that have been presented to the propiietor exceed
twenty thousand! upwards of five hundred of
which are from regular practising physicians, who
are the most competent judges of their merits.
Often have the cures performed by this mediciu
been the subject of editorial comment, in variou
newspapers and journals; and it may with truth be
asserted, that no medicine of the kinl has ever re
ceived testimonials of greater value th in are at
tached to this. ..
They are in general use as a family medicine
and there are p thousands of families who declare they
re never satisfied until they have a supply always
on hand.
They have no rival in curing and preventing
Biliious Fevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver
Complaints, Sick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma,
Drops}', Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen,
, Piles, Choiic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn,
i Furred Tongue, Nausea, Distension of the Stomach
I and Bowels, Incipient Diarrhoea,Flatulcnce,Habitu
i al Costiveness, Loss of Appetite, Blotched or Sallow
' Complexion, and in cases of torpor of the bowels,
1 where a cathartic or aperient is needed They are
exceedingly mild in their operation, producing
■ neither nausea, griping nor debility.
The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a
highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No
Ca ,March 3d,1838:
Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, —By requestor your agent,
Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the
almost miraculous effects of your piPs ; and I would
add, that you may make use of them, in connection
with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I
speak of their merits from experience,as 1 and my
family have taken upwards of thirty hoxps in three
■ years-, and so great a?e the benefits we havereceiv
i ed from them in general, that I would rather pnr
i chase them al ten dollars a box than have my house
; without them. I will not enumerate the afflictions
■ they have relieved us of; but I can assure you they
were many, and of very opposite natures, which
i has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sim
i pie purifier of the system, and therefore equally
i the enemy of every disease. I will mention one
case. I have a sister who had been for a long pe
riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and
was brought by it to the very verge of the grave.
She was attended by the most eminent physicians
that money could procure; but all their efforts to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer
ings were fruitless ; and accordingly,we all consid
ered her immediate death as inevitable. By good
fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex
pecting every day to be her last, your pills were
introduced into my family, and so speed}' and pal
, pable were their effects tiiat three doses visibly re
lieved her, and in less than three months she was
perfectly restored to health. This case, I and all
. who were witness of it, (but more especially the
suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to
miraculous; and yet I could mention many more
of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills
r were equally.successful in rescuing the patients
> from the jaws of death. Need I add that the popu
larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in
this section of the country ? But this I presume
you know from the immense quantity you dispose
of. I may mention, however, that notwithstanding
• its general use, I never heard an individual complain
of its effects. My residence is 12 miles from Ral
' eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. I am, with sen
timents of regard, your ob’t servant.
; A. G. BANKS.
To Dr. Peters, —Sir —For upward s of fifteen
months, I have been c.uelly afflicted with Fever
and Ague; and during the time could-find nothing—
though I had applied to every tiling that gave me
any thing like permanent relief. At length, how
i ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one
of our best phv sicians, and I am most grateful and
happy in being able to add, that 1 had scarcely used
tw o boxes when I found that they had restored me
to perfect health. Since then, various members of
1 my family have used them with equal success —
and consequently I feel it my duty to apprise you
of the fact, and to request of you to publish this
certificate, as lam anxious to add my public testi
mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your tin
rivalled medicine. Respectfully yours,
THEODORE JAMES.

Dr. J. P. Peters —My Dear Sir —On the night of
the 11th inst., I was called in great haste to the
house of a fel’ow ciiizen, (Mr. Lee,) where I found
his son laboring under a most alarming attack of
Cynanche Tracnealis (Cronp) and apparently be
yond the aid of remedy. By the greatest good for
tune, however, 1 had in my pocket a broken box of
your pills—four of which I administered, with
such immediate happy effect that in a few minutes
my patient was at ease, and out of danger. This
case, in connection with my name is at your ser
vice—and 1 have the pleasure to he able to inform
you that your inestimable medicine is in such great
favor with the faculty here, that 1 believe there is
not one of them who does not use it in his private

THE subscriber has the pleasure ol announcing
to the citizens of fhtvU. States, that he has

the complaints, which it speedily overcomes, were
beyond the reach ot human remedy, as for upwards
of a thousand ytars. they had baffled the wisdom
and ingenuity of the most profound physicians in
! all parts of the world. This C ordial, however, to
the great advantage of the human race, soon proved
itself to be the desideratum so long sought ior; and
accordingly, notwithstandingtl e briet peri dof.tg
existence, it has required a celebrity >so g re; ,t, , h£t
it is eagerly inquired for throughout t | ie civilized

and othei countries, only preserving France su.d

hastens to give-1 he inhabitants of his hoe ci agents
the benefits of his speculation.
“Le Cordial De Lucine,” or, in English, “the
Lucina Cordial,” is a general invigorator of the
human frame ! In nil i lie various cases of langur,
lassitude, and debilitation ; it is an unfailing rcn.c-'
dy ; as it fe equally its province to impart cheerful,
ness and decision to the mind, as health and vigor
to the body But the peculiar virtueut, which
celebrity is based, is the facility and certainty w ith
wh' h it r, stores the virile powers when they have
been destroved by disease, time, recklessness, orany
of the numerous con es which terminate in the
prostration of those tunc;ions
In common with the generally of really good
medicines, this*, o.dial contains ne-thing of a me.»
curial or deleterious nature, among the many inure
dients which compose it ; but is, at the same nme,
so simple, yet.so fficacious, that while it can reno
vate the pros.rated energies i f a giant, an tnfar
may use it,not only with impunity, but with ad
vantage.
The usages of society are unfortunately such,
that, notwithstanding the h-re fits which would be
sure to result iromit, we cannot enter into an analy
sis ol this inestimable Cordial here, or publish many
of the documents which have been received, ts
vouchers of the blessings it has conferred on num
bers of desj airing individuals. But this vve cannot
forbear remarking—that it has been demonstrated
that there is scarcely ever, if any such thing at ail,
as natural barrenness, or as natural imbecility of
the prooreant functions, in cither sex ; and therefore,
that these evils are the effects of artificial causes,
and may be speedily subdued and removed by the
use ot “ Le Cordial de Lucine.”
The Lucina Cordial is also an indubitable cure
for the Gleet, and the Mnor Albns, obstructed, diffi
cult, or painful Menstruation ; also, for the incon
tinence ol Urine,or the involuntary discharge there
of It is likewise on invaluable and unrivalled
medicine in cases of Chronic Eruptions of theskin,
and in the dropsical affections of the aged.

its efficacy; for before a bottle was expended, my
