common and disagreeable ‘‘ills the flesh is heir to.”
Tiiis prize obtains its own name from the certain
success which has attended it through all of its
trying circumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
same success which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by >l. Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians. —
Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an a'most
incredible extent the ch ildren of this war! ike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers.
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by Wabcnoshe, to
M. Cheveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”

chafed back and limbs of horses—lor tellers, ring
worms, chapped lips—and in short, for every extet
nal bodily evil that may fall to the lot of man or
beast.

Dear Sir—My daughter,a girl of fourteen, was
sadly afflicted wiln the comp aim that physicians
termed a scald head ; and I feared, iadepe dent of
every other evil, that she would be bald in conse
quence. By the recommendation, however, of the
Reverend Mr. Perrin, 1 applied your ointment to the
affltcled part; and 1 thank God that my child is
now entirely recovered from the disease, and is
getting her bait as fast as can he expected The
cure was effected in lather less than tw o months ;
during which lime I used fiv dollars worth of oint

duting the previous three years, withoflt any benefit
whatever. MARY HOWARD.
I hereby substantiate the truth ol the above

Dr Harrison.
Sir, —1 have no hesitation in stating, in reply to I
your note, that your “ Specific Ointment” is truly
equal lo the majority ol the ends fur which vou ro

majority, as it is my maxim to give no opinion in
medical matters where 1 have had no experience.
In sprains, bruises, inflammations, eruptions, w hit
lows, piles, &c., it is m. universal recipe. I have
aEo used it on the leg of a boy which had been
bitten by anadder, and ibe extraction of the poison,
and ultimate cure was so rapid, that my patient was'

this day

I HES E l-'ilis are no longer among: those of doubt
i. ful utility. They have passed away from the
hundreds that are daily launched upon the tide of
experiment, and now stand before the public as
high in reputation, and as extensively employed in
all parts of the United States, the Canadas, Texas
Mexico, and the West Indies, as any medicine that
has ever been prepared for the relief of suffering
man. They have been introduced wherever it was
found possible to carry them ; and there are but
few towns that do not contain some remarkable
evidences of their goad effects. The certificates
that iiave been presented to the propiietor exceed
twenty thousand! upwards of live hundred of
which are from regular practising physicians, who
are the most competent judges of their merits.
Cften have the cures performed by this medicin
been the subject of editorial comment, in variou
newspapers and journals; and it may with truth be
asserted, that no medicine of the kinl has ever re
ceived testimonials of greater value thin are at
tached to this.
They are in general use as a family medicine
and there are, thousands of families who declare they
re never satisfied until they have a supply always
on hand.
They have no rival in curing and preventing
Bihious Fevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver
Complaints, Sick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma,
Dropsy, Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen,
Piles, Cholic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn,
Furred Tongue, Nausea, Distension of the Stomach
and Bowels, IncipientDiarrhcea,Flatulence,Habitu
al Costiveness, Loss of Appetite, Blotched or Sallow
Complexion, and in cases of torpor of the bowels,
where a cathartic or aperient is needed They are
exceedingly mild in their operation, producing
neither nausea, griping no. debility.
The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a
highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No
Ca ,March 3d, 1838:
Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, By request of your agent,
. Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the
almost miraculous effects of your pil's ; and I would
add, that you may make use ol them, in connection
with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I
speak of their merits from experience, as 1 and my
family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three
I years ; and so great are tiie benefits we havereceiv
; ed from them in general, that I would rather pur
i chase them at ten dollars a box than have my house
| without thorn. 1 will not enumerate the afflictions
I they have relieved us of; but 1 can assure you they
| were many, and of very opposite natures, which
I has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sirn
j pie purifier of the system, and therefore equally
the enemy of every disease. I will mention one
case. I have a sister who had been for a long pe
riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and
was brought by it to the very verge of the grave.
She was attended by the most eminent physicians
that money could procure; but all their efforts to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer
ings were fruitless ; and accordingly,we all consid
ered her immediate death as inevitable, by good
fortune, however, as she w T as in this situation, ex
pecting every day to be her last, your pills were
introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal
pable were their effects that three doses visibly re
lieved her, and in less than three months she was
perfectly restored to health. This case, I and all
who were witness of it, (but more especially the
I suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to
miraculous; and yet i could mention many more
of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills
were equally successful in rescuing the patients
from the jaws of death. Need 1 add that the popu
larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in
this section of the country ? But this 1 presume
you know from the immense quantity you dispose
of I may mention, however, that notwithstanding
; its general use, I never heard an individual complain
of its effects. My residence is J2miies from bai
eigli, on the road to Fayetteville. 1 am, with sen
timents of regard, your oh’t servant.
A. G. BANKS.
To Dr. Peters. —Sir —For upward' 7 of fifteen
months, 1 have been cruelly afflicted with Fever
! and Ague; and during the time could find nothing —
though I had applied to every thing that gave me
1 any tiling like permanent relief. At length, how
; ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one
■ of our best phj sicians, and I am most grateful and
happy in being able to add, that I had scarcely used
two boxes when I found that they had restored me
to perfect health. Since then, various members of
my family have used them with equal success—
and consequently 1 feel it my duty to apprise you
of the fact, and to request of you to publish this
certificate, as I am anxious to add my public testi
mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your un
rivalled medicine. Respectfully yours,
THEODORE JAMES.

Dr. J. P. Peters —My Dear Sir—On the night of

your pills —four of which I administered, with

my patient was at ease, and out of danger. This

“let ordial De Lucine,” or, in English, “fine
Lucira Cordial,” is a general invigorator of the
human frame! In all the various cases of languor
lassitude, and debilitation ; it is an unfailing reme
dy ; as it is equally its province to impart cheerful
ness and decision to ti e mind, as health and vigor
to the body But the peculiar virtue on which'us
celebrity is based, is the facility and certainty with
which it restores the virile powers when they have
been destroyed by d<st ase.ini.e, recklessness,oranr
of the numerous causes which terminate in the
prostration of those functions.
In common with the generally of really good
medicines, thisi. oidial contains nothing of a mer
curial or deleterious nature, among ihe many inere
dtents which compose it; but is, at the same nine
so simple, yet so t fficacious, that while it ran reno
vate tiie prostrated energies of a giant, an infan
may use it,not only with impunity, but with ad
vantage.
The usages of society are unfortunately such
that, notwithstanding '.lie ben. fits which would he'
sure to result from it, we cannot enter into ananaly
sisol this ine timable Cordial here, or publish many
of the documents which have been received, as
vouchers ol ihe blessings it has conferred on num
bers of despairing individuals. But tt is wc cannot
forbear remarking—that u has been demonstrated
that there is scarcely ever, it any such thing at all,
as natural barrenness, or as natural imbecility of
ihe procreant Junctions, in either sex ; and therefore,
that these evils are the effects of artificial causes,
and may be speedily subdued «nd removed by the
use ol “ lx l Cordial be Lucine.”
The Lucina Coidial is also tn indubiiable cure
for the G!eei, ami ihe Iluor Albus, obstructed, diffi
cult, or painful Mens! i nation ; also, for the incon
tinence ol Urine,or the involuntary discharge there
of. It is likewise an invaluable and unrivalled

From the eminent Dr. Devigney, of Brussels
October 3, 1837.
To Dr. Magnin;—My dear friend —1 am raos
gratified at the unprecedented popularity of your
“Luc’na Cordial,” and am able iu near testimony to
its surprising virtue, i had a patient recently,
' i >1 , a gentleman oi fortune, who had lor
several years abandoned hiniseh in the vortex oi
dissipation ; and was only reclaimed from it at
length by the utter prostration of all his virileeoer
g es. He was, indeed, reduced to the last extremity
of debility and tasielessness, for, if an occasional
j flash of excitement warmed his system, the reac
tion was almost immediate, and the resuit perlect
prostration. 1 had applied all :fie usual nostrums
in such cases ; bur, as I had anticipated, without
success ; ami when 1 saw' the “ Lucina Cord.al"
advertised, I must confess that even the great weight
of your name did not give me much hope m it, at
least so far as regarded tiie case in hand. 1 felt
bound to try it, how ever, and was soon saddled of
its efficacy; for before a bottle was expended, my
patient gave evidence of the returning elasticity of
his system ; and he is now, having used four bottles,
as w ell is ever.
The number of documents, such as the above
which have been received by Mr. Magnin, sincelhe
first appearance of “ Le Cordial de Lucine,” would
fill a volume as large as l ie Bible.
