Gaiise"* Improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
E subscriber has opened an oilice, at Hie Drug |
j store of .Messrs. J. J. Robertson k Co., for the j
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He has now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
i he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, ol tais truly distressing and dangerous j
affection, by tiie useof these Trusses, besides many !
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re- |
iievt-d. The following is the language of tiie corn- |
mittee ol the Philadelphia Alcdical Society on the j
; Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in- !
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the |
committee, without material inconvenience to (lie i
patient, and often under trials more severe than j
are usually ventured upon by those who weaxother
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the pro' ssron, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
i highest chances of radical cure.”
The fol owing is from the Southern Medical and
I Southern Journal, published in ur own city.
All must admit of the radical cure of hernia, j
and that Dr. Chase’s Brasses are decidedly the best 1
yet invented to effect the object.”
1 Persons from a distance can have the instruments
! applied, upon application at the office, and ail ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. '1 be poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous- j
; lyupon presenting a certificate, from some responsi* !

This prize obtains its own name from the certain j
success which has attended it through all of its j
! trying circumstances, namely, “live days,’’—the
i same success which followed it in a Northern lati
| tu b? still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
| or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
J and hazard by M. Cheveves. from the celebrated
! Indian Chief Wabesothe, or Great Moon, whilst

I siness in the North-west with tire Indians. —
| Wabenoshe prized highly and u>c it with invariable
j success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
i valued virtues have already enriched to an a ! most
■ incredible extent the children of this warlike piince,
i not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
i dividuals, but by parting with copies of hi> icceipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
| Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the j
j Treat Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com-
I position until lie sleeps with his fathcis,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers.
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to
M. Cheveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of tune
which is consumed iu preparing the article for im

r I 'DESK Pills are no Longer among those of donbt
-• ful utility. They have passed away from the
hundreds that are daily launched upon the tide of j
experiment, and now stand before the public as
high in reputation, and as extensively employed in
all parts of the United Slates, the Canadas, Texas
Mexico, and the West Indies, as any medicine that
has ever been prepared for the relief of suffering
man. They have been introduced wherever it was
found possible to carry them ; and there are but I
few towns that do not contain some remarkable j
evidences of their good effects. The certificates
that have been presented to the propiietor exceed }
twenty thousand! upwards of five hundred of
which are from regular practising physicians, whj
are the most competent judges of their merits.
Often have the euros performed by this inediciu
been the subject of editorial comment, in varum '
newspapers and journals; and it may with truth be
asserted, that no medicine of the kin 1 has ever re
ceived testimonials of greater value th in are at
| tached to this.
They are in general use as a family medicine
I and there are.lhousands of families who declare they
re never satisfied until they have a supply always
on hand.
They have no rival in curing and preventing
; Billions Fevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver
Complaints, Sick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma,
Dropsy, Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen,
Piles, Choiic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn,
Furred Tongue, Nausea, Distension of the Stomach
| and Bowels. Incipient Diarrhoea,Flatulence,Haoitu
! al Costiveness, Loss of Appetite, Blotched or Sallow
j Complexion, and in cases of torpor of the bowels,
| where a cathartic or aperient is needed They are
! exceedingly mild in their operation, producing
i neither nausea, griping no. debility.
The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a
i highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No
j Ca .March 3d. 1838;
Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, By request of your agent,
1 Mr. Harrison, 1 send you a few lines respecting the
almost miraculous effects of your piPs ; and 1 would
! add, that you may make use ol them, in connection
with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I
i speak of their merits from experience, as I and my
. family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in thiec
, years ; and so great ax- the benefits we have receiv
ed from them in general, that I would rather pur
chase them alien dollars abox than have my house
without them. I will not enumenue the afflictions
they have relieved us ol ; but 1 can assure you they
were many, and of very opposite natures, which
has tuily proved to me that your medicine is a sim
ple purifier of the system, and therefore equally
the enemy of every disease. I will mention one
1 ease. 1 have a sister who had been for a iong pe
-1 riod sc’ ercly afflicted with dropsy in the chest and
; was brought by it to the very verge of the grave.
I She was attended by the most eminent physicians
; that money could procure; but ail their efforts to
j restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suller
! »igs were fruitless ; and accoiding!y,we al! consid- j
cred her immediate death as inevitable. Bv good
fortune, however, as she was in this situation, cx
i poet ng every day to be her your pills were
introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal
' pable wore their effects that three coses visibly ie
i iieved her, and in Jess than three months she was
'■ perfectly restored to health. This case, 1 and all
who were witness ol it, (but more especially the
suffering party,) considered to he the next thing to j
miraculous; and yet i could mention many more
of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills
were equally successful in rescuing the patients I
from the jaws of death. Need 1 add that the popu- i
larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in
this section of the country ? But this I presume I
you know from the immense quantity you dispose
jof 1 may mention, however, that notwithstanding
its general use, 1 never heard an individual complain
ot its effects. My residence is i 2 miles from i«ai-
I eigh, on the read to Fayetteville. I am, with sen
i timents of regard, your ob’t servant.
! A. G. BANKS.
To Dr. Peters, —Sir —For upward o ol fifteen
months, 1 have been ciuclly afflicted with Fever
and Ague; and during the time could tind nothing—
though 1 had applied to every thing that gave 'me
any thing like permanent relief. At length, how
ever, your pills weie recommended to me, by one
ox our best ph_) sicians, and 1 am most grateful and
happy in being able to add, that 1 had scarcely used
i two boxes when 1 found that they had restored me
to perfect health. Since then, various members of
my family have used them with equal success —
and consequently 1 feel it my duty to apprise you
ol the fact, and to request of you to publish this
certificate, as I am anxious to add my public testi
mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your un
rivalled medicine. Respectfully yours,
THEODORE JAMES.
