This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success hich has attended it through a!* of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “live days,*’ —the
same su .css which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by 'I Cheveres, from tiie celebrated
Indian Chief Wabesothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians. —
Wabcnoshe prized highly and use it with invai iahle
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an a most
incredible extent the chi.dren of this war ike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in

at enormous prices to the Chief of evciy tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the ‘ait of its com
position until lie sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
■ with, I may say, religious conlidence on its cura
ble powers.
Below is a copy of tbe translation as near as it can i

fH ES E Pills are no longer among those of doubt
ful utility. They have passed away from the
hundreds that are daily launched upon the tide of
experiment, and now stand before the public as
high in reputation, and as extensively employed in
all parts of the United States, the Canadas, Texas
Mexico, and the West Indies, as any medicine tha»
has ever been prepared for the relief of suffering
man. They have been introduced wherever it was
found possible to cany them ; there are but
few towns that do not contain some remarkable
evidences of their good effects. The certificates
that have been presented to the propi ictor exceed
twenty thousand! upwards of live hundred of
which are from regular practising physicians, whu
are the most competent judges of their merits.
Often have the cures performed by this rnedicin
been the subject of editorial comment, in virion
newspapers and journals; and it may w ith truth be
asserted, that no medicine of tiie kin 1 has ever re
ceived testimonials of greater value thin are at
tached to this.
They are in general usd 1 as a family medicine
and there are.lhousands of families who declare they
| rc never satislied until they have a supply always
i on hand.
They have no rival in curing and preventing
Bihious Fevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver
j Complaints, w ick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma,
) Dropsy, Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen,
! Piles, C’hoiic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn,

and Powels, Incipient Diarrhoea,Flatulence,Haoitu
-1 al Costiveness, Loss of Appetite, blotched or Sallow
! Complexion, and in cases of torpor of the bowels,
, where a cathartic or aperient is needed They are
' exceedingly mild in their operation, producing

1 The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a
i highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No
i Ca ,March 3d, 1838:
Dr. Peters—Dear Sir, By request of your agent,
Mr. Harrison, I send you a few line- respecting the
I almost miraculous effects of yourpiPs; andl would
; add, that you may make use ol them, in connection
with my name, in any manner you deem proper, 1
; speak of their merits from experience,as 1 and my
; family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three
years ; and so great jk* the bcnehls we have receiv
ed from them in general, that I would rather pur
chase them al ten dollars a box than have my house
without them. I will not enumerate the afflictions
they have relieved us of ; but 1 can assure you they
were many, and of very opposite natures, which
j lias fu.ly proved to me that your medicine is a sim
ple punacr of the system, and therefore equally
the enemy of every disease. 1 wi.l mention one
j case. 1 have a sister who had been for u long jie
riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and
was brought by it to the very of the grave.
She was attended by the most eminent physicians
j that money could procure; hut ail their efforts to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer
ings were fruitless ; and accoidingly,we a.: consid
ered her immediate death as inevitable. rsy good
fortune, however, as Hie was in this situation, rx
, pect ngevery day to be her last, your pii; s were
introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal
pable were their effects that three doses visibly re
lieved her, and in less than three months she was
; perfectly restored to health. This case, 1 ami all
who were witness of it, (but more especially the
suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to
miraculous; and yet 1 could mention many more
of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills
were equa ly successful in rescuing the* patients
from the jaws of death. Need 1 add that the popu
larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in
this section of the country ? but this 1 presume
you know Irom (he immense quantity you dispose
of 1 may mention, however, that notwithstanding
its general use, 1 never heard an ; mb vidua I complain
of its effects. My residence is iami.es Irom hai
eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. 1 am, with sen
timents ol regard, you j oh T servant.
A. G. BANKS,
To Dr. Peters, —Sir—For upward'’ of tifteen
months, 1 have been c ue.ly afflicted with Fever
and Ague; and during the tune could hnd nothing—
tinmen 1 had applied to every thing that gave me
any tiling .ike permanent relief. At length, how
ever, your pills were ictommended to me, by one
of our best physicians, and 1 am most grateful and
happy in being able to add. that 1 had scarcely used
two foxes when 1 found that they had restored me
to perfect health. Since then, various members of
my family have used them with equal success—
and consequently 1 feel it rny duly to apprise you
of the fact, and to request of you to publish this
certilicate,as 1 am anxious to add ny public testi
mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your un
rivalled medicine Respectfully yours,
