[Translated from the German.]
LOUIS OFFON GOELICKE,
of Germany,
The Greatest of Human Benefactors
Citizens of North and South America,
To Lours Offon Goelicke, M. D., of Germany,
[Europe J belongs the imperishable honor of adding
anew and precious doctrine to the science of rnedi
cine—a doctrine which, though vehemently opposed
t)y many r of the faculty, (of which he is a valuable
member,) he proves to he as well founded in truth
as any doctrine of Holy Writ —a doctrine, upon the
verity of which are suspended the lives of millions
of our race, and which he boldly challenges his op
posers to refute, viz: Consumption is a disease al
ways occasioned by a disordered state of \ is \ itne
or Life Principle) of the human body: (£f often
secretly lurking in the system for years before
there is the least complaint of the Lungs and
which may be as certainly, though not so quickly,
cured, as a common cold or a simple headache. An
invaluably precious doctrine this, as i t imparts an
important lesson to the apparently healthy of both
sexes, teaching them that this insidious foe may
be an unobserved inmate of their clayey houses
even while they imagine themselves secure from
its attacks, teaching them that the great secret in the
ml of preserving he.ilth is to pluck, out the disca.se
when in the blade , and not wait till the full g> own
tar. .
This illustrious benefactor of man is also entitled
to youi unfeigned gratitude, and the gratitude oi a
world, for the invention of his matchless Sanative,
-whose healing hat may justly claim for it such a
title, since it has so signally triumphed over our
;reat common enemy, both in
the first and last stages,—a medicine which has
iliorou'dilv filled the vacuum in the Materia Medina,
aid thereby proved itself the oCj* Conqueror of Phy
iic iansJM) —a medicine, tor which all mankind
will have abundant cause to bicss the beneficent
band of a kind Providence, —a medicine whose
wondrous virtues have been so glowingly’ pourtray
ed even by s >me of our clergy-, in their pastoral
visits to tee sick chamber ; by which means they
often become the happy instruments of changing de
ipoading into hope, sickness into health, and sad
of friends into joyfulness
Sqq Q 3
GOELICKE"S MATCHLESS SANATIVE,
A medicine of more value to man than the v ast
mines of Austria, or even the united
our globe, —a medicine, which is obtained equally
from the vegatable, animal and mineral kingdoms,
and thus possesses a three-Jold power,—a medicine,
which, thougn designed as a remedy for consump
tion solely, is possessed of a mysterious influence
over many diseases of the human sy stem,—a medi
cine, which begins to be valued by physicians, vv ho
■ire daily witnessing its astonisuing cures oi many
whom they had resigned to the grasp of the Insa
tiable Grave.
DOSE of the Sanative, for adults, one drop; for
children, a half-drop; and for infants, a quarter

TO THE FACULTY AND HEADS OF
FAMILIES.
DR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
docs not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, by- any- of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx
iously looked for, some one in almost the extreme
Not th has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting tc
r be made from the stalk, a thing not more ausutn
’ than for one to offer meal from the com stalk, to
I say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills ([neper) for the great benefits of
. which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they
' profess to be, and will do for others what they
r have done for such as mav have ured them ; as
.his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
doubtless be valuable information to families to
, know that the Yellow arc just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, arid produces twice as much
of tho hapatinc, or active principle, and when used
as a daily- vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they- then wished for a substitute. It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
’ thaitic principles, but not until of late xvas it
ascertaine j that ,ney contained alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully-, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject Hie medicine, as they
justly do tire one thousand and one cure-alls ot the
day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa.o anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato
Pill, of which a supply, we learn, will soon he in

RatlicalCirre ol Hernia or Rupture, by Dr.
Chase’s Improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
f |IHE subscriber has opened an office, atthe Drug
1 store of .Messrs. J. J. Robertson & Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments, lie has now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cals cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who arc in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee oi the Philadelphia Medical Society on lire
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have cllected
tire permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually- ventured upon by those who wcarother
trusses ; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The fol.owing is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
i and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
I yet invented to elfect the object.”
j Persons from a distance can have the instruments
j applied, upon application at the office, and all nc-
I cessary information given to enable them to adjus
; it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
j this alilicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from some respunsi*
hie person, of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of all sizes, aud applicable

grance for an in 'efinite length of time, and is
scarce to be removed from the garment on which it
is poured, by w-ashing; hence it is probably the
cheapest and most delightful perfume of our labora

‘ philosophical principles upon which they are
i compoun led. and upon which they e nsequcntly
- act.
i he LII 1 E MEDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases of every form and description. Their
I first operation is to loosen from the coats of the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities and
- crudities constantly settling around them ; and to
e remove the hardened fames which collect
;. con collisions of the smallest intestines. Other
t medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave
d such collected masses behind as lo produce habitu
al costiveness with : 11 its train ofevils. or inasud
-1 den d arrhoea, with ilseminent dangers. This fact
s is well known lo all regular anatomists, who c\
p amine the hitman bowels after death ; and hen-c
j. | the prejudi c of those well informed men against
r | quack medicines—cr medicines prepared and her
laded to the public bv ignorant pi rsons. '1 he se-
cond eliect of the Life Medicines is lo cleanse the
kidneys and the bladder, and by this means, the
liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which
entirely depends upon the regularity oft he urinary
' organs. The blued, which lakes its red color from
the agency of the liver and the lungs before it
passes into I lie iiea t, being thus purified by them
and nourished by food coming from a clean stom
ach, courses freely through the veins, renews every
part of the system, and triumphantly mounts the
banner of health in the blooming cheek.

ague, paiticularly, the Life Medicines have been
most eminently successful; so much so that in the
. Fever and Ague districts, Physicians almost uni
versally prescribe them.
All that Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is
, to be particular in taking the Life Mcdicim s strictly
according to the directions. It is not by a news
■ paper nonce, or any thieg that he himself may say
’ in their favor, that he hopes to gain credit. Jt is

ANTr-BALSAMIC CONOR 111 RE AI. SOLUTION,
Warranted to cure in Five Days.
PS'iHIS incomparable and invaluable remedy so
if long known, and used with such unparrallcled
success in the Canadas for the last 30 ycais, ap- ,
pears to need no panegyric, its operation upon the
human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success bich has attended it through all of its -
trying c cumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
t same su jess which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated ,
Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
, he,with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians.—
Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of tiie article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn premise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
, position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, 1 may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers.
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to !
M. Chcveret, when he purchased tire original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
tire tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few while men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.
TRANSLATION,
“I, Wabenoshe, Chief of the nations Ottowa and

f done many good things for me and my people,) I
■ give to him rny greatest cure for the bad sickness
, which ray children have had sent among them as
• a punishment by the Great Spirit, and hope that in
• his hands it may do much good , and make him very
rich.”

, blc in its essences, its first and prominent virtue
• is lo subdue every vestige of inflarnation, and then
i acts mildly and copiously as a diuretic; thereby
■ holding within itself, every requisite virtue, for
>’ the subdaction of this loathsome malady —and cv
• ery regular graduate in medicine, will sustain the
• assertion, thatcopioas diuresis and reduction of in
• flation, are the only two things necessary to effect
> a sound and radical cure
The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”
is in this, that wherever it alone lias been used to
• affect a cure, none of those tenacious and disagree
; able consequences which almost invariably results
from the sudden cure of Gonorrhoea, have been
known to obtain such as stricture, hernia, huinoi
alis, incontinence, and a swarm of other of the
most loathsome, perplexing, and disagreeable dis
eases, consequent upon erroneous diagnosis and
treatment of Gonorrhcsa.
Those affected are requested to call and try for
themselves. If the prescriptions are well follow
ed and fail to cure, the money will ia every case be
returned.
