TO Till; FACULTY AND HEADS OF
FAMILIES.
DR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substiUite for Calomel, and
does not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts arc made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
■ for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx
| tously looked for, some one in almost the extreme
North ha? advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting*!
j be made from the stalk, a thing not more ausau. j
i than for one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to
say nothing of tire difficulty ol raising the lumato
so far North.
Dr. .Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato PiLs (proper) for the great benefits ol
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they
profess to be, and will do for otheis what they
have done for such as mav have u:-ed them; as
Jiis is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recoiled with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they' then wished for a substitute. It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it
asccrtainc 1 that .aey contained alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, lor tho reason that
they know what it is \\ ere it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day.* If you wish to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato
Pill, of which a supply, we loam, will soon be ir.

Radical Cure oi llcrmaor Rupture, by Dr.
Chase's Improved Surgeons* Trusses,
rSMiE subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
| store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson ic Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
uslly celebrated instruments. He has now used 1
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid, \
he could name severai persons who have been radi- 1
cnlly cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous 1
affection, by the uscof these Trusses, besides many |
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re- f
lieved. The following is the language of the com- ,
mittee ot the Philadelphia Medical Society on the 1
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of tiie in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wcarother
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of |
the profession, as the best known means of me- ,
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The fohowiug is from the Southern Medical and
I Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
! and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessarv information given to enable them to adius
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this ailiicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from some responsi*
! ble person, of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments arc of all rizes, and applicable
to every variety of reducible rupture,

HERMITAGE EXTRACT. —This lately in
vented combination of delightful odors, has
acquired a just popularity, not only by reason of
the strength and delicacy, but of the extraordina
ry duration ol its perfume. Whilst the strength of
many other extracts and essences is almost as eva
nescent as the bloom of the flowers from which
they arc derived, the Hermitage retains its fra
grance for an in lelinite length of time, and is
scarce to be removed from the garment on which it
is poured, by washing; hence it is probably the
cheapest and must delightful perfume ol our labora
tories.

ANTI-BALSAMJC GONoRRHtEAL SOLUTK)R,
Warranted to cure in Five Days.
rjpillS incomparaldc and invaluable remedy so
JH long known, and used with such unparrallcled
success in the Canadas for the last 30 ycais, ap
pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is Heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
I success liich has attended it through all of its
I trying c cumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
| same su jcss which followed it in a Northern lati
! tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
j or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
j and hazard by M. Che votes, from the celebrated
| Indian Chief Wabenotiie, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians. —
\\ abenoshc prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe ol
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
1 places it in tire hands of every Indian who rely
with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers.
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisizcd of the deed gi>on by Wabenoshc, to
M.Cheveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

This Medicine,! warrnit by this publication, un- j
dcr a penalty of $5,000, not to contain one parti
cle of corrosive preparation. It is purely vegata
, blc in its essences. Its first and prominent virtue 1
| is to subdue every vestige of inflamation, and then
; acts mildly and copiously as a diuretic ; therebj
I holding within itself, every requisite virtue, for
the sabduction of this loathsome malady —and ev
ery regular graduate in medicine, will sustain the
assertion, thatcopious diuicsis and reduction of in
flation, are the only two things necessary to effect
a sound and radical cure
The mort peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Join's,”
is in this, that wherever it alone has been used to
affect a cure, none of those tenacious and disagree
able consequences which almost invariably results
from the sudden cure of Gonorrhoea, have been
known to obtain such as stricture, hernia, humoi
alis, incontinence, and a swairn of other of the
mos 1 loathsome, perplexing, and disagreeable dis
eases, consequent upon erroneous diagnosis and 1
treatment of Gonorrhoea.
Those affected are requested to call and try foi
themselves. If the prescriptions arc well follow
ed and fail to cure, the money will in every case be
returned.

HEADACHE, SICK OR NERVOUS.
The extraordinary reputation that Dr. Spohn’a
remedy (or this distressing cumpaint is every day
paining is certainly a matter of much astonishment,
1 hat so much suffering should have existed for ages
w iihout any discovery ot an effectual preventive, or
cure, is truly a subject of much regret but Dr. S.
now assures the public that such a n inetly has been
invented as will convince the most credulous. The
principles on which it acts are simple and plain It is
an a. mined tact that this complaint, v\ hether called
t'ick Headache, or Nervous Headache, arises prim
arily from the stomach—those who think they have
the Nervous Headache may rest assured that this
organ, the stomach, is the first cause, that th« sys

stomach, and that only through tho same channel
must they expect s restoration of ihe natural and
healthy luncitons olthe system. Tins object. Dr.
Spohn’s remedy is eminently calculated to aitain.
The truth of this position cannot be controverted,
and the sooner sufferers with the headache become
convinced of it, the sooner will their suffering end
in restoration of health, Dr. Spohn pledges his
professional reputation on this fact. The remedy
