LOUIS OFFON GOELICKE,
of Germany,
The Greatest of Human Benefactors
Citizens of North and South America,
To Lours Offon Goelicke, M. I*., of Germany,
[Europe,] belongs the imperishable honor of adding
anew and precious doctrine to the science of medi
cine a doctrine which, though vehemently opposed
Dy manv of the faculty, (of which he is a valuable
member,) he proves to be as well founded in truth
as any doctrine of Holy Writ—a doctrine, upon the
verity of whiclr are suspended the lives of millions
of our race, and which he boldly challenges his op
nosers to refute, viz; Consumption is a disease al
ways occasioned by a disordered state of Vis Vita;
(or'Life Principle) of the human body; QT/* often
secretly lurking in the system for years before
there is the least complaint of the Lungs — a «d
which may be as certainly, though not so quickly,
cured, as a common cold or a simple headache. An
invaluably precious doctrine this, as it imparts an
important lesson to the apparently healthy of both
sexes, teaching them that this insidious foe may
be an unobserved inmate of their 1 * clayey houses”
even while tlrcy imagine themselves secure from
its attacks, teaching them that thegrent secret inthe
ait of preserving health is to pluck out the disease

Tills illustrious benefactor of man is also entitled

world, for the invention of lus matchless Sanative,
—whose healing fiat may justly claim lor it such a
title, since it has so signally triumphed over our
great common enemy, jff Consumption both in
the first and last stages-a medicine which has
thoroughly filled the vacuum m the Materia Medica,
and thereby proved itself the ts Conqueror of Phy

will have abundant cause to bless the beneficent
hand of a kind Providence,— a medicine whose
wondrous virtues have been so glowingly Portray

visits to tee sick chamber ; by which means they
often become the happy instruments of changing de

A certificate from three members of the Medical
Profession in Germany, in Europe.
We, the undersigned, practitioners ot medicine
la Germany, are well aware that, by our course,
we may forfeit the friendship ot some oi the facul
ty, but not of its benevolent members, who are un
influenced by selfish motives. Though we shall
refrain from an expression of our opinion, either
of the soundness or unsmmdness ol Ur. Goelick s
new doctrine, we are happy to say tirat we deem
his Sanative too valuable not to be generally
known—for what our eyes behold and our eais
hear, we must believe. .
We Hereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis Offcn
Goelick first came before the German public, as
the pretended discoverer of a new doctrine and a
new medicine, we held him in the highest con
tempt, believing and openly pronouncing him to be
a base impostor n d the prince of quacks. But on
hearing so much said about the Sanative, against it
and for it, we were induced, from motives of cut i
•sitr merely, to make trial of its reputed virtues
upon'a number of our most hopeless patients; and
we now deem it our bouuden duty (even at tne
expense of self-interest) publicly to acknowledge
its ellicacy in curing not only consumption, but
other fearful maladies, which we have heretofore
believed to be incurable. Our contempt for the
discoverer of this medicine was at once swallowed
up in our utter astonishment at these unexpected
results ; and, as amends for our abuse ot.lum, we
do frankly confess to the world, that we believe
him a philanthropist, who does honor to the profes
sion, and to our countiy, which gave him buth.
The recent adoption of this medicine into some
o our European hospitals, is a sufficient guaranty
that it performs all promises. It needed not our
estimony, for wherever it is useff it is its own best

A Late and Valuable Discovery.
PERHAPS there is nothing mo -- * calculated to
disgust the public eye than the innumerable
1 advertisements of nostrums that are constantly ap

every day’s reports of ills and specifics This state

Still, motives of delicacy should not prevent us from

consideration has prompted the authorol these bit

ly efficacious, for he himself, his wife, and many
friends, have given them a thorough trial. He was
himself a confirmed dyspeptic,so much, that even
his rerollection was gone. By using these hitters
he has been restored to health. .Mrs. Cosby was
troubled for many years, but was restored to health
by the use ol these bitters. This has been the case

Radical Cure ol Henna or Rupture, by Dr.
Chase’s Improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
FI 111 E subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
JL store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson & Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He has now used
them fur nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides manv
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ol the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wearcther
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The following is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from some responsi*
bie person, of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable
to every variety ot reducible rupture,

TO THE FACULTY AND HEADS OF
FAMILIES.
DR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
does not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx
iously looked for, some one in almost the extreme
Noith lias advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting lo
be made from the stalk, a thing not more ausuiu
than for one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they
profess to be, and will do for otbcis what they
have done for such as mav have used them ; as
.his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapatiue, or active principle, and when used
as a dail} vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it,
ascertaincj tnat .uey coiiiaineu aileiative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject tiie medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-ails of the
day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato
Pill, of which a supply, we learn, will soon be in
his city. We all know somelnmg aoout tms.

ANTI-BALSAMIC GONORRHOEAL SOLUTION,
Wai'ranled to cure in Five Days.
rjMIIS incomparable and invaluable remedy so
A long known, and used with such unpanalleled
success in the Canadas for the last 30 yeats, ap
pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success Inch has attended it through all of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
same su .ess which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians.—
Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
witk, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to
M.Cheveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had tw ice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few while men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

The LIFE MEDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases of every form and description. Their
first operation is to loosen from the coals ot the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities and
crudities con-tantly settling around them ; ana to
remove the hardened fames which collect 1
conversions of the smallest intestines. Other
medicines oidy partially cleanse these, and leave
such collected masses behind as to produce habitu

is well known lo ad regular anatomists, who ex

liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which
entirely depends upon the regularity of the urinary
organa. The blood, which takes its red color from
the agency of the liver and the lungs before it
passes into tile liea t, being thus purified by them
and nourished by food coming from a clean stom

Dr. Magnin made his wonderful discovery, no cure

made public; and all those then in use for the
restoration of the decayed virile powers were found
to be of but little avail. Thus, all nostrums adver

PETERS’ VEGETABLE FILLS.
F|\HESE Pills aro no longer among those of
X doubtful utility. They have passed away
from the hundreds that are daily launched upon
the tide of experiment, and now stand helore the
public as high in reputation, and as extensively
employed in all parts of the United States, the Can
adas. Texas, Mexico, and the West Indies, as any
medicine lhai lias ever been prepa.ed for the relief
of suffering man. They have been introduced
w herever it was found poss.ble to carry them ; and
there are but few towns that do not contain some
remaikable evidences of their good effects. The
certificates that have been presented lo the proprie
tor exceed twenty thousand ! upwards of five hun
dred ol which are from regular practising physicians,
who are the most competent judges of their merits.
Often have the cures performed hy ttiis medicine
been the subject of editorial comment in various
newspapers and journals; and it may with truth
be asserted, that no me Itcine of the kind has ever
received testimonials of greater value than are at
tached to this.
They are in general use as a family medicine,
and there are thousands of families who declare
they are never satisfied unless they have a supply
always on hand.
They have no rival in curing and preventing
Bilious fevers. Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver
Complaints, trick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma,
Dropsy, Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen,
Piles,.Cholic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn, i ur
red Tongue. Nausea, Distension of the Stomach
and Bowels, Incipient Diarrhce, Flatulence, H.-.bit
ual Costiveness, Loss of Appetite, blotched or
Sallow Coraulexiin, and in all cases of Torpor of
the Bowels, wheie a cathanic or an aperient is
needed. They are exceedingly mild in their opeia
uon, producing neither nausea, griping nor debility.
The efficacy ol these pills is so welt known, and
their use s ) general, that further comment is con
sidered unnecessary.

Bank—the principles of State Rights—economy
reform and retrenchment in the Federal adminis

present administration of the Gener; 1 Government.
in miscellany and general intelligence, great

Hermitage extract.—This lately in^
vented combination of delightful odors, has
acquired a just popularity, not only by reason of
the strength and delicacy, but of the extraordina
ry duration of its perfume. Whilst the strength of
many other extracts and essences is almost as eva
nescent as the bloom of the flowers from which
they are derived, the Hermitage retains its fra
grance for an in ennite length of time, and is
scarce to be removed from the garment on which it
is poured, by washing; hence it is probably the
cheapest and most delightful perfume of our labora
