A certificate from three members of the Medical
Profession in Germany, in Europe.
We, the undersigned, practitioners of medicine
!n Germany, arc well aware that, by our course,
we may forfeit the friendship of some ol the facul
ty, but not of its benevolent members, who aic un
influenced by selfish motives. Though we shall
refrain from an expression ol our opinion, either
of the soundness or unsoundness of Di. Goelick s
new doctrine we are happy to say that we deem
his Sanative too valuable not to be generally
known—for what our eyes behold and our ears
hear, we must believe. .
We nereby sta e, that when Dr. Loais Ollcn
Goelick first came before the German public, as
the pretended discoverer of a new doctrine and a
new medicine, we held him in the highest con
tempt, believing and openly pronouncing him to be
a base impostor ;n d the prince ol quacks. But, on
hearing so much said about the Sanative, against it
and for it, we were induced, from motives of cmi
•nty merely, to make trial of its reputed virtues
upon a number of our most hopeless patients; and
we now deem it our bounden duty (even at the
expense of self-interest) publicly to acknowledge
its ctficacj' in curing not only consumption, but
other fearful maladies, which we have heretofore
believed to be incurable. Our contempt for the
discoverer of this medicine was at once swallowed
up in our utter astonishment at these unexpected
results; and, as amends for our abuse of him, wc
do frankly confess to the world, that we believe
him a philanthropist, who does honor to the protes
skn, and to our countiy, which gave him birth.
The recent adoption of this medicine into some
0 our European hospitals, is a sufficient guaranty
that it performs all promises. It needed not our
estimonv for wherever it is used it is its own best

PERHAPS mere is nothing .t.o"’ calculated to
disgust trie public eye than the innumefaMe

every day’s reports of ills and specifics This slate
ol the public mind would seem W forbid any person
of delicate mind from sending fortfi any new dis

Still, motives ot delicacy should not prevent us from
making known real discoveries, which we are can

consideration has prompted the author of these bit
ters to tfiafke them known. He knows they are high
ly efficacious, for he himself, his w ife, and many
friends, have given them a thorough trial. He was
himself a confirmed dyspeptic,so much, that even
his rerollectiun was gone. By using these hitters
he has been restored to health. Mrs. Cosby was
troubled for many years, but was restored to health
by the use of these hitters. This has been the case
with many of bis fri mis. Mr. Cosby in sending

him. He Las been for many years a resident ol

Radical Cure of Hernia or Rupture, by Dr.
Chase’s Improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
raiHE subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
j store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson & Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He has now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee of the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wearother
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Ur. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The fol.owing is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses arc decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate,from
ble person, of their pecuniary disability'.
The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable
to every variety of reducible rupture.

DR. MILKS’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
does not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts arc made
known to the faculty', or any one else that may

for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx

North has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting tv
be made from the stalk, a thing not more aosuiu
than for one to oiler meal from the corn stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty' of raising the Tomato
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they
profess to be, and will do for otbcis what they
have done for such as mav have used them; as
Jus is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly' as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it
ascert.aine i that .aey coniameu alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day'. If you wish to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa.c anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato
Pill, of which a supply, we learn, will soon be in
his city. We all know something aoout inis.

fSHIIS incomparable and invaluable remedy so

human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success bich has attended it through all of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “live days,”—the
same su .ess which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Chevcres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians.—
Wabenoshe prized higblj* and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals. but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until be sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
wilk, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed gi>en by Wabenoshe, to
M. Chcveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”

MOFFAT S VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINES
fIAHESE medicines arc indebted for their name

MOFFAT’S LIFE PILLS AND PHENIX BIT
TERS have been gratefully and publicly ac

were previously unacquainted with the be-audtally
philosophical principles upon which they are
compounded, ami upon which they Bjnsequently
act.
The LIFE MEDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases of every form and description. Their
first operation is to loosen from the coals o! the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities and
crudities con tantly settling around them ; anc to
remove the hardened fieces which collect
convolusioris of the smallest intestines. Other
medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave
such collected masses behind as to produce habitu
al costiveness with Jl its train of evils, or m a sud
den diarrhoea, with its erainent dangers. This tact
is well known to ail regular anatomists, who ex
amine the human bowels after death ; and heme
the prejudice of those w'ell informed men against
quack medicines—or medicines prepared and her
laded to the public bv ignorant pi rsons. r J he se
cond effect of the Life Medicines is to cleanse the
kidneys and the bladder, and hy this means, the
liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which
entirely depends upon the regularity of the urinary
organs. The blood, which takes its red color from
the agency of the liver and the lungs before it
passes into the heat, being thus purified by them
and nourished hy food coining from a clean stom
ach, courses freely th ough the veins, renews every
part of the system, and triumphantly mounts the
banner of health in the blooming check.
Moffat’s Vegetable Life Medicines have been
thoroughly attested, and pronounced a sovereign
remedy for Dyspepsia, Flatulency, Palpitation of
the Heart, Loss of Appetite, Heart-bora and Head
ache, Restlessness, lIJ-teniper, Anxiety, Languor
and Melancholy, Cosliveness, Diarrhoea, Cholera,

Eruptions and Bad Complexions, Eruptive com

which afflict the homar frame. In fever and
ague, particularly, the Life Medicines have been
mostemmeritly successful; so much so that in the
Fever and Ague districts, Physicians almost uni
versally prescribe them.
All that Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is
to be particular in taking the Life Medicines strictly
according to the directions. It is not by a news

in their favor, that he hopes to gain credit. It is
alone by the result of a fair trial.

PETERS’ VEGETABLE PILLS.
fITHESZ Pills are no longer among thos? of
X doubtful utility. They have passed away
from the hundreds that are daily launched upon
the tide of experiment, and now stand before the
public as high in reputation, and as extensively
employed in all parts of the United Slates, the Can
adas, Texas, Mexico, and the West Indies, as any
medicine that has ever been prepa.ed for the relief
of suffering man. 'I hey have been int oduced
wherever it was found possible to carry them ; and
there are but few towns that do not contain some
rematkahle evidences of their good effects. The
certificates that have been presented to the proprie
tor exceed twenty thousand ! upwards of five hun
dred of which are from regular practising physicians,
who are the most competent judges of their merits.
Often have the cures jierformed by this medicine
been the subject of editorial comment in vat ions
newspapers and journals ; and it may with truth
be asserted, that no me heme of the kind has ever
received testimonials of gr« ater value than are at
tached to this.
They are in general use as a family medicine,
and there are thousands of families who declare
they are never satisfied unless they have a supply
always on hand.
They have no rival in curing and preventing
Bilious Eevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver
Complaints, Sick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma,
Dropsy, Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen,
Pi!es u Cholic, Female Obstructions, Heartburn, Fur
red Tongue. Nausea, Distension of the Stomach
and Bowels, Incipient Diarrhoe, Flatulence, Habit
ual Costiveness, Loss of Appetite, Blotched or
Sallow Complexi >n, and in all cases of Torpor of
the Bowels, whete a cathartic or ap aperient is
needed. They are exceedingly mild in their opeta-
Uon, producing neither nausea, griping nor debility.
The efficacy of these pills is so well known, and
their use so general, that further comment is con
sidered unnecessary.

HERMITAGE EXTRACT.—This lately in
veated combination of delightful odors, has
acquired a just popularity', not only by reason ol
the strength and delicacy, but of the extraordina

many other extract? and essences is almost as eva

they are derived, the Hermitage retains its fra
grance for an indefinite length of time, and is
scarce to be removed from the garment on which it
is poured, by washing; hence it is probably the
cheapest and most delightful perfume of our labora
