LOUIS OFFON GOELICKE,
of Germany ,
The Greatest of Human Benefactoks
Cit izens of North and South America,
To Louis Offon Goelicke, M. D., of Germany,
[Europe,] belongs the imperishable honor of adding
aJfew airl precious doctrine to the science of medi
ae a doctrine which, though vehemently opposed
Dv m any of the faculty, (of which he is a valuable
member,) he proves to be as well fqunded in truth
as . iU iv doctrine of Holy Writ—a doctrine, upon the
verity of which are suspended the hves of millions .
of our race, and which lie boldly challenges his op
nosers to refute, viz: Consumption is a diseaseal- j
wavs occasioned by a disordered state of Vis Vibe [
[or*Life Principle) of the human body: (Cf often j
secretly lurking in the system for years before I
there is the least complaint of the Lungs Jff —and [
which may be as certainly, though not so quickly, i
cured, as a common cold or a simple headache. An
invaluably precious doctrine tiiis, as D imparts an j
important lesson to the apparently healthy of both i
sexes, leaching them that this insidious foe may {
be an unobserved inmate of their* 4 i lay ey houses” i
even while tliey imagine themselves secure from
its attacks, teaching them that the great secret in the
ait of preserving he tlth is to pinch out the disease
when in the blade, and not wait t ill ’he j all grown
tar. j
This illustrious benefactor of man is also entitled .j
to youi unfeigned gratitude, and the gratitude of a j
world, for the invention of his matchless Sanative,
—whose healing liat may justly claim for it such a
- since it has so signally triumphed o\ci our j
‘ceat common enemy, j fj* Consumption , botli in i
the first and last stages,—a medicine which has j
thoroughly tilled the vacuum in the Materia Mcdica,
and thereby proved itself the QCj’ Conqueror of V hy
lic ians.N 0 —a medicine, ior which all mankind
will haveabundant cause to bless the beneficent
hand of a kind Providence, —a medicine whose
wondrous virtues have been so glowingly pouitiay
ed even by sline ot our clergy, in their pastoral
visits to tec sick chamber ; by which means they
often become the happy instrumentsofehangingde
suonding into hope, sickness into health, and sad
‘ of friends into joyfulness

GOELICKE'S MATCHLESS SANATIVE,
A medicine of more value to man than the vast
mines of Austria, or even the united treasures of
our globe,—a medicine, which is obtained equally
frorn'the vegatable, animal and mineral kingdoms,
and thus possesses a three-fold power, a medicine,
which, thougn designed as a remedy for consump
tion solely, is possessed of a mysterious influence
over many diseases of the human system,—a medi
cine, which begins to be valued by physicians, who
are daily witnessing its astonishing cures of many
whom they had icsigncd to the grasp of the Insa
tiable Grave.
DOSE of the Sanative, for adults, one drop; for
children, a half-drop; and for infants, a quarter

A certificate from three members of the Medical
Profession in Germany, in Europe.
Wc the undersigned, practitioners of medicine
in Germany, are well aware that, by our course, .
we may forfeit the friendship of some ol the facul
ty, but not of its benevolent members, who arc un
influenced by selfish motives. Though wc shall
refrain from an expression of our opinion, either
of the soundness or unsoundness of Or. Goelick’s
new doctiine. we are happy to say that we deem
his Sanative too valuable not to be generally
known —for what our eyes behold and our ears
hear, we must believe.
We Hereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis Often i
Goelick first came before the German public, as
the pretended discoverer of a new doctrine and a
new medicine, we held him in the highest con
tempt, believing and openly pronoun' ing him to be
a base impostor ai d the prince of quacks. l>ut. on
hearing so much said about the Sana! ye, against it
and lor it, wc were induced, from motives of cmi- j
•site merely, to make trial ol its icputcd \iitucs |
upon a number of our most hopeless patients; and j
we now deem it our bounder, duty (even al the
©expense of self-interest) publicly to acknowledge |
it« efficacy in curing not only consumption, but j
other fearful maladies, which we have heretofore j
believed to be incurable. Our contempt for the |
discoverer of this medicine was at once swallowed I
up in our utter astonishment at these unexpected ,
results; and, as amends for our abuse ot him, wc |
do frankly confess to the world, iliac we believe j
him a philanthropist, who docs honor to the proles- j
sicii, and to our country, which ga\ e him bn th.
The recent adoption of this medicine into some
0 our European hospitals, is a sufficient guaranty
that it performs all promises. It needed not our
estimouy, for wherever it is used it is its own best
vi ness. HERMAN ETMULLER, m. d.

Radical Cure of Hernia or Rupture, by Dr.
Chase’s Improved .surgeons’ Trusses.
riAHE subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
i store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson U.Co., forth*
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He has now used
them for - nearly a year, ami, did not delicacy for bid,
he could name several persons wholravcbecu radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
atfcction, by the use of these Trusses, besides man v
others who arc in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is Hie language of the com
mittee ol the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
44 The instruments of Dr. Chase have cllectcd
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, ami often under trials more severe than
arc usually ventured upon by those who weai other
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with airy
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by- the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The fol.owing is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in cur own city.
44 All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Personsfrom a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. 'The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from some responsi*
ble person,of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable
to every variety ol reducible rupture.

Dll. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
does not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts arc made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx
iously looked for, some one in almost tire extreme
Nortlr has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting U
be made from tire stalk, a thing not more ansuiu
than for one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising tiie Tomato
so far North.
Dr, Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that tliey arc all that they
profess to be, and will do for others what they
have dune for such as mav have used them ; as
.his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapatinc, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other
, kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it,
I ascertainei tirat .ney contained alterative and diu
retic properties. Ihe Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would he hound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand ami one cure-alls of the
day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato
pi]], of which a supply, we learn, will soon be in

This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success hich has attended it through all of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
same su jess which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
i or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated
i Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians.— .
1 Wabcnoshc prized highly- and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and

position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although i
free to use it in their respective tribes, which I
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely -
with, I may say-, religious confidence on its cura

Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed gi,on by Wabenoshe, to

is to subdue every vestige of intlamation, and then
acts mildly and copiously as a diuretic; thereby
holding within itself, every requisite virtue, sot
the subduclion of this loathsome malady —and ev

assertion, that copious diuresis and reduction of in
flation, are the only two things necessary to cll'ect
a sound and radicalcure
The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”
is in this, that wherever it alone has been used to
all'ccl a cure, none of those tenacious and disagree
able consequences which almost invariably results
from the sudden cure of Gonorrhoea, have been
known to obtain such as stricture, hernia, liumor

most loathsome, perplexing, and disagreeable dis

The LIF E MEDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases of every form and description. Their

fiom Iho hundreds that are daily launched upon

public as high in reputation, and as extensively
employed*m all parts of the United States, the Can

medicine that has ever been prepa ed for the relief
of stiff!ring man. They have been int educed

there are but. lew towns that do not contain some
remarkable evidences of their good effects. The
certificates that have been presented to the proprie
tor exceed twenty thousand ! upwards of five hun
dred ol which are from regular practi.-ing physicians,
who are the most competent judges of their merits.
Often have the cures performed by this medicine
been the subject of editorial comment in vaiious
newspapers and journals ; and it may with truth
be asserted, that no me licme of the kind has ever
received testimonials of gr ater value than are at

Commerce. Politics,and General Intelligence.

In Politics, it is the advocate of a sound curren- .

reform and retrenchment in the Federal adminis
tration : —and opposes the leading measures of the
present administration of the Gcncr: i Government.
In miscellany- an 1 general ii tclligcnre, great
care is taken to render the paper both valuable and
interesting to ad classes of society.
The proprietors will, as soon as their circulation
is sufficiently enlarged, (which they hope will be
in the com sc of t c present year,) increase the size
of their weekly sheet, when they will present theii

HERMITAGE EXTRACT. —This lately- in
vented combination of delightful odors, lias
acquired a just popularity, not only by reason ol
the strength and delicacy, but of the extraordina

many other extracts and essences is almost as eva

they are derived, the Hermitage retains its fra
