LOUIS OFFON GUELICKE,
of Germany,
The Greatest of Human Benefactors
citizens of North and South America,
To Louis Offon Goelicke, M. D., of Germany,
[Europe,] belongs the imperishable honor of adding
anew and precious doctrine to the science of rnedi
ane a doctrine which, though vehemently opposed
ov many of the faculty, [of which he is a valuable
member,) he proves to be as well founded in truth
as an v doctrine of Holy Writ—a doctrine, upon the
verity of which are suspended the lives of mdlions
of our race, and which lie boldly challenges his op
pose rs to refute, viz : Consumption is a disease al
ways occasioned by a disordered state oi Vis \ it.e
(or Life Principle) of the human body: often
secretly lurking in the system for years before
taere the least complaint of the Lungs Jff) —and
which may be as certainly, though not so quickly,
cured, as a common cod ora simple headache. An
invaluably precioua doctrine this, as H imparts an
important lesson to the apparently healthy of botli
scxe s, teaching them that this insidious foe may
be an unobserved inmate of their “ clayey houses”
even while they imagine themselves secure from
its attacks, teaching them that the great secret in the
cut of preserving hetltn i s to pluck out the disease
ic/ien in the blade, and not wait till tue fall gi own
ear.
This illustrious benefactor of man is also entitled
to youi unfeigned gratitude, and the gratitude ol a
world, for the invention of his matchless Sanative,
—whose healing nut may justly claim for it such a
title, since it has so signally triumphed over onr
great common enemy, fjT Consumption, both in
the first and last stages,—a medicine which has
thoroughly filled the vacuum in the Materia Medica,
-nd thereby proved itself the (O Conqueror of Phy
tic iansjffy—a medicine, for winch all mankind
will have abundant cause to bless the beneficent
hand of a kind Providence, —a medicine whose
wondrous virtues have been so glowingly pouitray
eJ even by snne of our clergy, in their palloral
visits to tee sick chamber ; by w nidi means they
often become the happy instrumcntsol cliangingdo
sponding into hope, sickness into health, and sad
of friends into juyfulness

A certificate from three members of the Medical
Profession in Germany, in Europe. :
We, the undersigned, practitioners of medicine
in Germany, are well aware that, by our course,
we may forfeit the friendship of some ol the facul
ty,but not of its benevolent members, who are un
influenced by selfish motives, though we shall
refrain from an expression ot our opinion, cither
of the soundness or unsoundness ol Dr. Gcelick s
new doctrine, we are happy to say that we deem
his Sanative too valuable not to be generally
known —for what our eyes behold and our ears
hear, we must believe.
We hereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis Offon
Goelick first came before the German pu Aic, as
the pretended discoverer of a new doctrine and a
new medicine, we held him in the highest con
tempt, believing and openly pronouncing him cO be
a base impostor .v d the prince of quacks. But, on
hearing so much said about the Sanative, against it
au.l tor it, we were induced, from motives of cuii
ositj" merely, to make trial ol its reputed virtues
upon a number of our most hopeless patients; and
we now deem it our bounden duty (even at the
expense of self-interest) publicly to acknowledge
its eiticacy in caring not only consumption, but
other fearful maladies, which we have heretofore |
believed to be incurable. Our contempt lor the (
discoverer of this medicine was at once sw. slowed |
up in our utter astonishment at these unexpected ,
results; and, as amends tor our abuse oi him, we j
do frank I v confess to the world, that we believe ■
him a philanthropist, who docs honor to the piuies
sicu, and to our countiy, which gave him b.’; ,h.
The recent adoption of this medicine Into some |
o our European Hospitals, is a sufficient guaranty j
that it performs all promises, it needed not our :

A Late and Valuable Discovery.
PERHAPS mere is nothing .no” calculated to
disgust me public eye than the innumerable
advertisements of nostrums that are constantly ap
pearing in the public prints. All are ready to ex
claim, our souls are sick, our ears are pained with
every day's reports ol ills and specifics This state
of the public mind would seem to forbid any person
of delicate mind from sending forth any new dis
coveries in medicine, to the trial of the public.—
Still, motives of delicacy should not prevent us from
making known real discoveries, which weare con

consideration has prompted the author of these bil

himself a confirmed dyspeptic,so much, tfiat even

he has been restored to health. Mrs. Cosby was
troubled for many years, but was restored to health
by the use of these bitters. This has been the case

Radical Cure ol Hernia or Rupture, by Dr.
Chase's improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
fgIHE subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
j store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson A Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He lias now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of tiiis truly distressing and dangerous
affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee oi the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wearother
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The foLovving is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in cur own city.
“AH must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance cun have the instruments
applied, upon application at the o.iice, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The peer, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate,from
ble person,of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of ab sizes, and applicable
to every variety ol reducible rupture,

TO THE FACULTY AND HEADS OF

lAR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
does not belong lo the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since tins discovery so long and anx

Noith has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting
be made from the stalk, a thing not more aosuiu
than for one to offer meal from the coni stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising file Tomato
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, lie holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they
profess to be, and will do for oihcts what they
have done for such as mav have used them; as
.iiis is a vegetable ul great use, and value, it will
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much belter condition than the other
kind; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel lias been given to children, and
how they then w islicd for a substitute. It has
long been know n that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it
a-certainej that mey coniameu aitoiativc and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato

ANTi-BALSAMIC GONORRHOEAL SOLUTION,
Warranted to cure in Five Days.
ff T HIS incomparalUe and invaluable remedy so
-■ long known, and used with such unparralleled
success in the Canadas for the last 30 yeais, ap
pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
' common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success hich has attended it through ali of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
same su jess which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west wHth the Indians. —
Wabenoshe prized highly and use it w ith invariable
success throughout iiis two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
I not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
! dividuals, Lut by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
' places it in the hands of every Indian who relj’
with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers
Below is a copy of the translation a? near as it can
< be anglisized of the deed gwon by Wabenoshe, to
M. Che veret, when lie purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

MOFFAT'S VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINES
Fi’tHESE medicines are indebted for their name
to tin ir manifest and sensible action in puri
fying the spring and channels ol life, and enduing
them with renewed tone and vigor. In many hun
dred certified cases which has been made public,
and in almost ever) species of disease to which
the human frame is liable, the happy effects of
MOFFAT’S LIFE PILLS AND PHENIX BIT
TERS have been gratefully and publicly ac
knowledged by the persons banefutted, and who
were previously unacquainted with the beautifully
philosophical principles upon which they are
compoun Jed, and upon which they ejnsequently
act.
The LIFE MEDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases ol every lorm and description.. Their
first operation is to loosen from the coats ol the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities and
crudities eon tantly settling around them ; and to
remove the hardened faeces which collect
convolusions of the smallest intestines. Other
m dicines only partially cleanse these, and leave
such collected masses behind as to produce habitu
al costivemss with til its train ofevils. or in a sud
den diairhcp.a, with its eminent hangers. This tact
is well known to a.l regular anatomists, who ex
amine the human bowels after death ; and hence
the prejudice oi those well informed men against
quack meitic mes—or medicines prepared and her
laded to the public bv ignorant p< rsons. ’J he se
cond effect of the Life Medicines is to cleanse the
kidneys and the bladder, and by this means, the
liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which
entirely depends upon the regularity oft he urinary
organs. The blood, which takes its red color from
the agency of the liver and the lungs before it
passes into the heat, being thus purified by them
and nourished by food coming from a clean stom
ach, courses freely ih.ough the veins, renews every
part of the system, and triumphantly’ mounts the
banner of health in the blooming cheek.
Moffat’s Vegetable Life Medicine j have been
thoroughly attested, and pronounced a sovereign
remedy for 1 dyspepsia, Flatulency, Palpitation of
the Heart, Loss of Appetite, ileart-bnra and Head
ache, Restlessness, lil-leinper. Anxiety, Languor
and Melancholy, Costiveness, Diarrhoea, Cholera,
Fevers of all kinds. Rheumatism, Gout, Dropsies

Eruptions and Bad Complexions, Eruptive com

which afflict the huntar frame. In fever and
ague, particularly, the Life Medicines have been
mosteininenlly successful ; so much so that in the
Fever and Ague districts, Physicians almost uni
versally prescribe them.
All thai Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is
to be particular in taking the Life Medicines strictly
according to the directions, it is not by a news
paper notice, or any thirg that he himself may say
in their lavor, that ha hopes to gain credit. It is
alone by the resuU of a fair trial.

cient caution tor thv purchaser lo ask fur the Lucina
Cordial, but as lunher assurance, it would he as
well to note t iat its nam , Lucina Cordial, or Elixir
of Love, is stamped in the glass of each bottle—the
combined arms of France and the United States
are on the outward envelope—that a Fleur de Lis
is printed on the accompanying directions, and
beautifully embossed on the show-bills hanging in
the stores of those who ha\e the genuine article

The celebrity of the Lucina Cordial being such
as it is, it is scarcely necessary to add that it is the
only efficient remedy for barrenness, and the resto
ration of decayed virile powers evei known; and
that in the cure of Fluor Albus, Gleet, obstructed,
difficult or painful Menstruation, the incontinence
of the mine, or the involuntary discharge thereof,

PETERS’ VEGETABLE PILLS.
rg'',HEsE Pills are no longer among those ol
X doubtful utility. They have pasted away
from 1 lie hundreds "that are daily launched upon
the tide of experiment, and now stand belore the
public as high in reputation, and as extensively
employed in all parts of the United Slates, the Can
adas, Texas, Mexico, and the West Indies, as any
medicine that has ever been prepa.ed lor the relief
of suffering man. '1 hey have been int educed
wherever it was found poss.blo to carry them ; and
there are but few towns that do not contain some
remaikable evidences of their good effects. The
certificates that have been presented to the proprie
tor exceed twenty thousand ! upwards of five hun
dred ol which are from regular practicing physicians,
who are the most competent judges of their merits.
Often have the cures performed by this medicine
been the subject of editorial comment in various
newspapers and journals ; and it may with truth
be asserted, that no me heine of the kind has ever
received testimonials of gn ater value than are at
tached to this.
They are in general use as a family medicine,
and there are thousands of families who declare
they are never satisfied unless they have a supply
always on hand.
They have no rival in curing and preventing
Bilious fevers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liver
Complaints, trick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma,
Dropsy, Rheumatism, Enlargement of the Spleen,
Female Obstructions, Heartburn, Fur

Sallow Coraulexun, and in all cases of Torpor ol
the Bowels, vvheie a cathartic or an aperient is
needed. They are exceedingly mild in their opera

The efficacy ol these pills is so well known, and
their use so general, that further comment is con
sidered unnecessary.

In Politics, it is the advocate of a sound curren
cy', based upon specie—the re-charter of a National
Bank—the principles of State Rigiits—economy
reform and retrenchment in the Federal adminis
tration :—and opposes the leading measures of the
present administration of the Gener. 1 Government.
In miscellany and general ir telligonce, great
care is taken to render the paper both valuable and
interesting to all classes of society.
