We hereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis (Mien

the pretended discoverer of a new doct&ne and a

and for it, we were induced, from motives oi cun

upon a number of our most hopeless parents; and
we now deem it our bounden duty (e. eu a ic

its efficacy in curing not only consumption, u
other fearful maladies, which we have 'heretofore
believed to be incurable. Our contempt *or the

results; and, as amends lor our abuse o him, we
do frankly confess to the world, that vje believe

COSBY’S DYSPEPTIC
A Late and Valuable Discovery.
PERHAPS there is nothing .t.o"’ c** Jovialed to
disgust the public eye than tiie innumerable
advertisements of nostrums that are constantly ap
pearing in the public prints. All are ready to ex
claim, our souls are stdk, our ears are pained with
ever}’ day’s reports of ills and specifics. Tkis slate
ol the public mind would seem to forbid any person
of delicate mind from sending forth any new dis
coveries in medicine, to the trial of the public.—
Still, motives of delicacy should not prevent us from
making known real discoveries, w hich we are con
fident will benefit onr fellow men. This Jailor
consideration has prompted ihe author of these hit
lers to make them known, lie knows they are high
ly efficacious, fur he himself, his wife, and many
friends, have given them a thorough trial. He was
himself a confirmed dyspeptic,so much, that even
his recollection was gone. l>y using these hitters
he has been restored to health. Mrs. Cosby was
troubled (or many years, but was restored to health
by the use of these bitters. This lias been the case
with many of his frit nds. Mr. Cosby in sending
forth this advertisement, addresses those who know
him. He has been for many years a resident of
Augusta al which place he ran at any lime be
consulted about the bitters. They are good in all
cases of diseases of the digestive organs, the symp
toms of which are indigestion, pain or oppression
in ihe stomach from food, lossot appetite, flalulcn- I
cv, heart hurn, giddiness in the head, pain in the
side, shortness of breath, lassitude, gene al weak
ness, disturbed sleep, &c The eomposi.ion is en
tirely Botanical, and has proved efficacious when
many celebraied medicines had failed. In support I
of which he refers them to Freeman VV. Lacy, she
riff ol Richmond countv, and William T. Thomp
son, editor ol the Augusta Mirror, and he might re
fer you to many others, but deems it unnecessary
as lie is willing to place it on its own merits. All

Radical Cure cl Hernia or Rupture, by Dr.
Chase’s Improved Surgcous T Trusses.
TSUI E subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
1 store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson &Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He lias now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of being entire!}'re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee of the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wearothcr
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The foLowing is front the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Personsfrom a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the o.i ce, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from somcrcspousi*
blc person, of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable
to every variety ol reducible rupture,

TO THE FACULTY AND HEADS OF

DR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
hues not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so ioug and anx
iously looked for, some one in almost tuc extreme
North has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting U
be made from the stalk, a thing not more aosuiu
than for one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benetits of
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they
profess to be, and will do for olhcis what they
have done for such as mav have u*ed them ; as
,his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it wdll
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the liapatinc, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It has
been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was i:
ascertainej that .aey toiiiameu alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day. If you wish to cleanse the system with a
tni’ld, sa.e auli-biiious medicine, use the Tomato
Pill of which a supply, we learn, will soon be in

Warranted to cure in Five Days.
incomparable and invaluable remedy so
JL long known, and used with such unparralleled
success in the Canadas for the last 30 yeais, ap
pears to need no panegyric. Its operation upon the
human system is such that it invariably acts like
a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable “ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success hich has attended it through all of its
trying c cumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
same su jcss which followed it in a Northern lati
tude still obtains in a more Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated
I Indian Chief Wabesothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians. —
Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
I valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of his receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, I may say, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers
Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisizcd of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to
31. ChcveretjWlu n lie purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

der a penalty of SS,GUO, not to contain one parti
cle of corrosive preparation. It is purely vegata
ble in its essences. Its first and prominent virtue
is to subdue every vestige of inflamation, and then
acts mildly and copiously as a diuretic; thereby
holding within itself, every requisite virtue, for
the subduction of this loathsome malady—and ev
ery regular graduate in medicine, will sustain the
assertion, that copious diuresis and reduction of in
flation, are the only two things necessary to effect
a sound and radical cure
The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”
is in this, that wherever it alone has been used to
alfect a cure, none of those tenacious and disagree
able consequences which almost invariably results
from the sudden cure of Gonorrhoea, have been
known to obtain such as stricture, hernia, humoi

most loathsome, perplexing, and disagreeable dis

tuclion to make known, that he has a remedy which
by removing the causes cures effectually and perma

families who have considered Sick Headache a con
stitutional incurable tamily complaint- Dr. S. as
sures them that they are mistaken, and labouring
under distress which tncy might not only alleviate
but actually eradicated by the usf if his remedy.
It is the result of scientific research, and is entirely
of a different character from advertised patent medi
cines, and is not unpleasant to the taste.
HEADACHE, SICK OR NERVOUS.
The extraordinary reputation that Dr. Spohn’s
remedy for this distressing compaint is every day
gaining is certainly a matter of much astonishment,
That so much suffering should have existed fur ages
without any discovery of an effectual preventive or
cure,is truly a subject of much regret but Dr. S.
now assures the public that such a remedy has been
invented as will convince the most.credulous. The
♦ nncipies on which it acts are simple and plain. It is
ini a milled fact that this complaint, whether called
Sick Headache, or Nervous Headache, arises prim
arily from the stomach—those who think they have
the Nervous Headache may rest assured that this
organ, the stomach, is ihe first cause, that th* sys
tem has become vitiated or debilitated, thiough the
stomach, and that only through the same channel
must they expect s restoration of the natural and
healthv functions of the system. This object, Dr
Spohn’s remedy is eminently calculated to attain.
The truth of this position cannot be controverted,
and the sooner sufferers with the headache become
convinced of it, the sooner wili their suffering end
in restoration of health, Dr. Spohn pledges his
pre fessionai reputation on this fact. The remedy
may be had ot apothecaries generally throughout

MOFFAT S VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINES
fIMIESE medicines are indebted for their name
i to ihi ir manifest and sensible action in puri
lying the spring and channels ot life, and enduing
them with renewed tone and vigor. In manv hun
dred certified cases which has been made public,
and in almost ever} species of disease to which
the human frame is liable, the happy effects of
MOFFAT'S LIFE PILLS AND PHENIX RIT
TERS have been gratefully and publicly ac-
Inowledged by the persons her.•flitted, and who
were previously unacquainted with the beau*iluily
philosophical principles upon which they are
corapoun led, and upon which they consequently
act.
The LIFE MEDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases ot every form and description. Their
first operation is to loosen from the coats ol the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities and
crudities eon tantly settling around them ; auc to
remove the hardened fasces which collect I
convolusious of the smallest intestines. Other
medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave
such collected masses behind as to produce habitu
al costiveness with 11 its train ofevils. or in a sud
den diarrhoea, with its eminent dangers. This fact
is well known to all regular anatomists, who ex
amine the human bowels after death ; and iion;c
the prejudice of those well informed men against
quack medicines—or medicines prepared and her
laded to the public bv ignorant p< rsotis. 'J he se
cond effect ot the Lilo Medicines is to cleanse the
kidneys and the bladder, ami by this means, the
liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which
entirely depends upon the regularity of the urinary
organs. The blocd, which takes its red color from
the agency of tho liver and the lungs before it
passes into the heat, being thus purified by them
and nourished by food coming from a clean stom
ach, courses freely th.otigh the veins, renews every
part of the system, and triumphantly mounts the
banner of health in tho blooming cheek.
Moffat’s Vegetable Life Medicines have been
thoroughly attested, and pronounced a sovereign
remedy lor Dyspepsia, Flatulency, Palpitation ol
the Heart, Loss of Appetite, Heart-bora and Head
ache, Restlessness, lil-leraper, Anxiety, Languor
and Melancholy, Cosliveness, Diarrhoea, Cholera,
Fevers of all kinds, Rheumatism, Gout, Dropsies
of all kind, Gravel, Worms, Asthma and Consump

Eruptions and Rad Complexions, Eruptive com
plaints, Sallow, Cloudy, and other disagreeable
Complexions, Salt Rheum, Erysipelas, Common

which afflict the liunia - frame. In fever and
ague, particularly, the Life Medicines have been
niosteimnently successful; so much so that in the
Fever and Ague districts, Physicians almost uni
versally prescribe them.
All that Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is
to be particular in taking the Life Medicines strictly
according to the directions. It is not by a news
paper notice, orany tlir g that he himself may say
in their favor, tiial he hopes to gain credit. It is
alone by the result of a fair trial.

of Love, is stamped in the glass of each bottle—the
combined arms of France and the United States
are on the outward envelope—that a Fleur de Lis
is printed on the accompanying directions, and
beautifully embossed on the show-bills hanging in
the stores of those who have the genuine article
for sale.
The celebrity of the Lucina Cordial being such
as it is, it is scarcely necessary to add that it is the
only efficient remedy for barrenness, and the resto
ration of decayed virile powers ovei known; and
that in the cure of Fluor Aldus, Gieet, obstructed,
difficult or painful Menstruation, the incontinence
of the urine, or the involuntary discharge thereot,
ns superiority over every other medicine is not on
ly decided, but unquestionable. For sale by

PETERS’ VEGETABLE PILLS.
fjpHESZ Pills aro no longer among those of
_BL doubtful utility. They have passed away
from the hundreds that are daily launched upon
the tide of experiment, and now stand before the
public as high in reputation, and as extensively
employed in all jiarts of the United Slates, the Can
adas, Texas, Mexico, and the West Indies, as any
medicine that has ever been prepared lor the relief
of suffering man. They have been introduced
w hcrever it was found possible to carry them ; and
there are but few towns that do not contain some
remarkable evidences of their good effects. The
certificates that have been presented to the proprie
tor exceed twenty thousand ! upwards of five hun
dred ol which are from regular practising physicians,
who are the most competent judges oi their merits.
Often have the cures performed by this medicine
been the subject of editorial comment in various
newspapers and journals ; and it may with truth
be asserted, that no me heme of the kind has ever
' received testimonials of greater value than are at
tached to this.
They are in general use as a family medicine,

they are never satisfied unless they have a supjdy

HERMITAGE EXTRACT.—This lately in

acquired a just popularity, not only by reason ol
the strength and delicacy, but of the extraordina
