as any doctrine of Holy Writ—a: octrine, upon the

We, the undersigned, practitiun is ol medicine
In Germany, are well aware that, by o r course,

refrain from an expression ol our opinion, either
of the soundness or unsoundness o Dr. Goe lick’s
new doctrine, we are happy to say that we deem
his Sanative too valuable nut U be generally
known —for what our eyes beiiob and our ears j
hear, we must believe.
We hereby sta e, that when r. Louis OfTon
Goelick first came before the Gei nan public, as
the pretended discoverer of a new octrine and a
new medicine, we held him in t j highest con
tempt, believing and openly pronou cing him to be
a base impostor at d the prince of q: icks. But, on
hearing so much said about the San ive, against it
and for it, we were induced, from n hives ol curi
osity merely, to make trial ot its eputed virtues
upon a number of our most hopeies patients; and
we now deem it our bounden dut (even at the
expense of self-interest) publicly •acknowledge
its efficacy in curing not only co sumption, but
other fearful maladies, which v\„-h ve heretofore
believed to be incurable, (mi cu tempt for the
discoverer of this medicine was at • ct swallowed
up yr our utter astonishment at th -e unexpected
results; and, as amends for our am e of him, we j
do frankly confess to the world, li t we believe
him a philanthropist, who does hono to the protes

The recent adoption of this medi ine into some

Still, motives of delicacy should not prevent us Irom

Radical Cure ol Hernia or Rupture, by Dr.
Chase’s Improved Surgeons 7 Trusses.
TINHE subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
1 store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson &. Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
uslly celebrated instruments, ire has now m.d
them for nearly a year, and, didnot delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
afiectioii, by the use oi these Trusses, besides tu ny
others -who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee oi the Philadelphia Medical bociety on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe Jhan
are usually ventured upon by those who wearother
trusses; trials that wou.d be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
The committee are induced hy the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cuic.”
The following is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Jou nal, published in ,ur own city,
“ All must admit of the radical cure of ueruia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
3'et invented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the 0.1.-ce, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them tu adjus
it themselves. The poor, who arc laboring undei
this ailiicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a ccrtihcate, from some respunsL
blc person,ol their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are ol ah sizes, and applicable
to every vatu ty oi reducible rupture.

of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition Ilian the other
kind; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca

HERMITAGE EXTRACT. —This lately in
vented combination of delightful odors, has
acquired a just popularity, not only by reason oi
the strength and delicacy, but of the extraordina
ry duration of its perfume. Whilst the strength of
many other ex tracts and essences is almost as eva
nescent as the bloom of the flowers from which
they are derived, the Hermitage retains its fra
grance for an iu .efinite length of time, and is
scarce to be removed from the garment on which it
is poured, by washing; hence it is probably the
cheapest and most delightful perfume of our labora
tories.
