The Greatest of Human Benefactors
Citizens of North and South America,
To Louis Offon Goelicke, Ml D., of Germany,
I Europe,] belongs the imperishable honor of adding
d ne w and precious doctrine to jlje science of rnedi- '
Liue —a doctrine which, though ijhemeuth opposed
• 0 v rnanv of the faculty, [of wUujh he is a valuable
number,) he proves to be as well founded in truth
as anv doctrine of Holy Writ—ia doctrine, upon the
verity of which are suspended the lives of millions
of our race, and which he toldlj jchallenges his op
posers to refute, viz: Consurapti -is a disease al
ways occasioned by a disordered 1 state of Vis Vitae
(or Life Principle) of the hum-ais body: often
secretly lurking in the system for years before
there is the least complaint of t|ic Lungs XDr—and
which may be as certainly, though not so quickly,
rar‘‘J, us a co m won coM or a sin|['le headache. An
invaluably precious doctrine thjjs, as it iroparts an
important to the apparenlly healthy of both
sexes, teaching them that this : insidious foe may
be an unobserved inmate of their “ clayey houses”
even while they imagine them elves secure from
ts attacks, teaching them that ts e great secret in the
ait of preserving health is tophsk out the disease
when in the blade, and not wont till the full grown
ear.
This illustrious benefactor of man is also entitled
to youi unfeigned gratitude, and the gratitude of a
world, for the invention of his iwtchless Sanative,
—whose healing hat may justly biaim for it such a
title, since it hate so signally triumphed over our
great common enemy, j J* Consumption, both in
the first and last stages,—a medicine which has
thoroughly filled tiie vacuum in the Materia Mcdica,
and thereby proved itself the fff Conqueror of Phy
tic tansjff} —a medicine, for which all mankind
will have abundant cause to bless the beneficent
hand of a kind Providence, —a medicine whose
wondrous virtues have been so glowingly pour Hay
ed even by srme ot our clergy, in their pastoral
visits to tee sick chamber ; by which means they
often become the happy instrirnentsofchangingde

A certificate from three members of the Medical
Profession in Germany, m Europe.
We, the undersigned, practitioners of medicine
la Germany, are well aware that, by our course,
we may forfeit the friendship of some of the facul
ty,but not of its benevolent members, who are un
influenced by’ selfish motives, i hough vve shall
refrain from an expression of o i.r opinion, either
of the soundness or unsoundness;of Dr. Goelick s
new doctrine w T e are happy to ss:y that we deem
his Sanative too valuable not to be generally
known —for what our eyes behold and our ears
hear, we must believe.
W c hereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis Offen ;
Goelick lirst came before the German public, as j
t,.e pretended discoverer of a new doctrine and a
new medicine, we held him in the highest con
tempt relieving and openly pronouncing him to be
a uase impostor a: d the prince of'quacks. But, on
hearing so much saia about the Sanative, against it
ial for it, we were induced, from; motives of cuvi
ositr merelv, to make trial ot Hs reputed viitucs
upon a number of our most hope joss patients; and
we now deem it our bounJen ditty (even at the
expense of self-interest; public!.; to acknowledge ;
its efficacy in curing not only Consumption, but
other fearful maladies, which w&have heretofore j
believe! to be incuraule. Our .j-ontempt for the
discoverer of this medicine was at once swallowed
up in our utter astonishment at Shese unexpected
resuits; and, as amends for our #,buse of him, we
do fraaklv confess to the world,, that we believe
him a philanthropist, who does hep or to the profes
sicn, and to our countiy, which gave him birth.
The recent adoption of this medicine into some i
0 our European hospitals, is a sufficient guaranty
that it performs all promises, it needed not aur
estimoay, for wherever it is usecl tis its own best,

KrtiliculCure ol llerniuor Uuptuie, by Dr.
Chase’s improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
rj'IHE subsciiber has opened an office, atthe Drug
1 store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson fit Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He has now
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cu red, of this truly distressing and dangerous
atiectioa, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ot the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
commit:ee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wcarotliec
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, the in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The loLowing is from the Southern Medical aud
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application atthe oiiice, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from some re spun si'
bie person, of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable
to evei’y variety of reduciblt rupture.

HERMITAGE EXTRACT. —This lately in
vented combination of delightful odors, has
acquired a just popularity, not only by reason ol
the strength and delicacy, but of the extraordina
ry duration of its perfume. Whilst the strength of
many other extracts and essences is almost as eva
nescent as the bloom of the flowers from which
they are derived, the Hermitage retains its fra
grance for an in efinite length of time, and is
scarce to be removed from the garment on which it
is poured, by washing; hence it is probably the
cheapest and most delightful perfume of our labora
tories.
Also, Cologne, Lavender. Orange, Florida and
Rose Waters, in great varietv. For sa’e Ly

sumption.
