j MOFFAT’S VEGETABLE LIFE MEDICINES
! fINHESE medicines are indebted for tneir name
JL to lh« ir manifest and sensible action in puri
fying the spring and channels of life, and enduing
them with renewed tone and vigor. In manv hun
dred certified cases vvhicn has been made public,
i and in almost ever); species of disease to which

; MOFFAT'S LIFE PILLS AND PHENiX BIT
! TERS have been gratefully and publicly ac
knowledged by the persons benefiitted, and who
were previously unacquainted with the beautifully
philosophical principles upon which they are
compounded, and upon w hich they eonsequemly
act.
The LIFE MEDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases of every form and description. Their
first operation is to loosen from the coats of the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities and
crudities constantly settling around them ; and to
remove the hardened lieces which collect
convolusions of the smallest intestines. Other
medicines only partialiy cleanse these, and leave
such collected masses behind as to produce habitu
al costiveness with all its train of evils, or in a sud
den diarrhoea, w ith its eminent dangers. This fact
is well known to all regular anatomists, who ex
amine the human bowels after death ; and hence
the prejudice of those well informed men against
quack medicines—or medicines prepared and her
laded to the public bv ignorant pi rsons. '1 fie se
cond effect of the Life Medicines is to cleanse the
kidneys and the bladder, and by this means, the
liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which
entirely depends upon the regularity of the urinary
organs. The blood, w hich takes its red color from
the agency of the liver and the lungs before it
passes into the head, being thus purified by i hem
and nourished by food coming from a clean storn
j ach, courses freely tluough the veins, renevts every
part of the system, and triumphantly mounts the
banner of health in the blooming cheek.
Moffat’s Vegetable Life Medicines have been
thoroughly allested, and pronounced a sovereign
remedy for Dyspepsia, Flatulency, Palpitation of
the Heart, Lostfot Appetite, Heart-burn and Head
ache, Restlessness, 111-temper, Anxiety, Languor
and Melancholy, Cosliveness, Diarrhoea, Cholera,
F’evers of all kinds, Rheumatism, Gout, Dropsies
of ail kind, Gravel, W orms, Asthma and Consurap
lion, Jicurv), Liters, Inveterate Sores, Scorbutic
Eruptions and Bad Complexions, Eruptive com
plaints, Sallow, Cloudy, and other disagreeable
Complexions, Salt Rheum, Erysipelas, Common
Colds and influenza and various other complaints
which afflict the bumar frame. In fever ami
ague, particularly, the Life Medicines have been
most eminently successful; so much so that in the
Fever and Ague districts, Physicians almost uni
versally prescribe them.
All that Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is
to be particular in taking the Lite Medicines strictly
according to the directions. It is not by a news
paper notice, or any thing that he himself may say
in their favor, that he hopes to gam credit. It is
alone by the reauli of a fair trial.

HEADACHE, SICK CKi NERVOUS.
The extraordinary reputation that Dr. Spohn’s
remedy for this distressing corapaint is every day
gaining is certainly a matter of much astonishment,
'1 hat so m ich suffering should have existed for ages
without any discovery of an effectual preventive, or
cure, is truly a subject of much regret but Dr. S.
now assures the public that such a remedy lias been
invented as will con vince the most credulous. The
principles on which it acts are simple and plain. It is
an ac milted fact that this complaint, whether called
Sick Headache, or Nervous Headache, arises prim
arily from the stomach—those who think they have
the Nervous Headache may rest assured that this
organ, the stomach, is the first cause, that the sys
tem has become vitiated or debilitated, through ihe
stomach, and that only through the same channel
must they expects restoration of ihe natural and
healthy functions of the system. This object, Dr
Spohn’s remedy is eminently calculated to attain.
The truth of this position cannot be controverted,
and the sooner auflerers with the headache become

“ THE .MATERNAL FRIEND”
IS one of those invaluable remedies that stands
the l est of trial. In every instance that has
come to th-e know-ledge of the proprietors, it has
proved its°B to be what it is recommended —a
pleasant, safe, and efficacious remedy for all the
sympathetic affections attendant on Pregnancy,
and all those periodical disorders to which both
married and unmarried females are liable. Delicacy
forbids giving the details of its merits in a news
paper advertisement, but it may be stated that it
has been in use under various names —(The Philo
token, Mother’s Relief, SfC..) for some ten years
past, and wherever introduced, the demand for it,
(without the aid of “ puffing,”) has been constant
ly on the increase. This fact in evidence of its
real virtues, together with the belief that hundreds
of females are suffering from want of the know

Often have the cures performed by this medicine

be asserted, that no me licine of the kind has ever
received testimonials of greater value than are at

They are in general use as a family medicine,

therefore the Soothing Opiate and Anti-Spasmodic
Anodyne in all its virtues, separate from the dele
terious princip.es of the drug, has for a series of
years engaged the profound attention of the author;
it presented itself to his mind as a subject of great
magnitude; the acquisition to the medical faculty
of so important a remedial agent, and the incalcu
lable amount of human misery that would be alle
viated by the discovery, have been to him a sure i
guarantee that he would reap a rich reward lor hts
labors,at least in self-gratulation. Having salis
laclorily tested the Eiixer in several hundreds of
instances, he has now the happiness of saying to
the public that his labors have been crowned with
triumphant success. J. HAMILTON,M. D.
