\ Thursday the 17th instant, a small POCKET
WALLET containing >he following Bmk bills: a
10 dollar bill on the Bank of Columbus, two on
the Georgia Hail Road Bank, one 10 and one odot
lar bill —the one for 5 on tire Bank ot Hambuigh,
the others not racoileded ; in all about forty-three
dollars. It also contained the following notes:—
One on Benjamin Pine for two hundred and seventy
nine dollars and forty-eight cents; oneonC.C. T al
inferro for eighty-six dallur- and fifty cents, dated
14th December, 1840; one on C. Salm for bfty-six
dollars and forty cents; one on Dennis Josephs for
fifty dollars —the above named persons reside in
Augusta; one on \\ illiain caihoun, of Georgia, for
ninety-five dollars; two on J J. Foster, of South
Carolina, one for about fifty and the other tor fifty
eight dollars, with a credit of forty-four dollars on
it"one on Mr. Teag, of the same State, amou H
not recollected; one on Sibley K Cook, of Ham
burg, amount not recollected; the receipt of John
M. Cooper & Son for a note on William C. Wiley,
of Cass countv, Georgia, for four hundred and
twenty six dollars; Thomas Chatin’s two receipts,
one for a note of seventy five dollars on Hezekiah
Ellington, of Georgia. and the other for a note on
Abner Bri'ter, of Georgia, for upwards of one hun
dreddoll irs; one on Gibson & McLlaugnliiqof Au
gusta, for tour hundred and four dollars, with a
credit of one hundred and t venty dollars on it
All of the above notes are made payable either to
Tench Stegall or my self. There are several other
papers not recollected.

SCOTTSBORO FEMALE INSTITUTE.

THE exercises of this institution will be resum
ed on the Ist day of January next. The ac- i
ademic year will comprise two sessions of five
months each. The first, begining as aoove stated,
will close on the last day of May; the second,
will begin on the first day of June, and close on
the last of October. A few days recess will be
given in the early part of Summer.
The course of studies will embrace the literary
and scientific subjects usually taught in simi'ar
institutions, including the Ancient Languages, if
desired. The seivices of an accomplished profes
sor of Music will be -engaged for the next year.
Other ornamental branches will be provided for,
so soon as the state of the School will authoiize it.
Trrms. —Young ladies fourteen years of age,
without regard ’o advancement, will be charged
$25 00 p»r session.
Y’ounger pupils will be charged in the primary
department sls 00 per session; in the Academic,
lor the subjects of Geography and Arithmetic, to
gether with exercises in (lithography, Reading,
ana Penmanship, S2O 00 per session. For English
Grammar, History, Belleslettres,Mathematics, and
other more advanced sciences, $25 00 per session.
In the ornamental department charges will not
* exceed the usual rates.
Books and Stationary will be furnished if desired
at Milledgcville piices. A small contribution for
wood will be required of each pupil. Payments
will be expected in advance ; and no pupil will be
admitted for a less lime than one session
Excellent board may be had in the village at
prices varying from $lO to sl4 per month. The
Principal is prepared to accommodate a few.
In conclusion, the Principal would respectfully
commend his school to the favorable consideration
of the public. He confidenly believes that, as to
location, it may safely compare with any in the
country. Its exceedingly healthy climate, central
position, and intelligent refined society, give to il
peculiar advantages. As to his qualifications for
the responsible task which he has undertaken, he
lakes the liberty of referring to the following gen
