/••xiNGER’S Patent Straight Needle Perpendicular Action 1
S SEWING MACHINE. Patcuttsl August 12th, 1851. 1
Improvements, which render this machine a perfect instru- j
ment patented April ISth, 1552 To this invention, be- ;
fore the great improvement# were applied, the first pruni- j
unis were awarded at the last New York State Fair, and Fair j
of the American Institute. As now improved, these ma- ;
d ines arc infinitely ahead of competition, and the inven
tion is unquestionably the most valuable one now before j
the public not excepting the Planing Machine, Coit’s Pis
tots or any other. All kinds of Sewing, on either cloth or
leath-r done by these machines in most beautiful style, so
it cannot rip or ravel, and with immense saving of labor.
The great shoe manufacturers at Lynn, snd other places,
u«e these machines. The extensive «addlery establishments
of Newark N. J., and Bridgeport, Ct., use them; and the
manufacturers of clothing and working tailors in many
P-rts of the country have introduced and are employing
them with perfect success. No Sewing Machine previous to
this was of anv practical value, stood the test of actual
use- and no machine for stitching can ever be made that
will be useful, without infringing on I. M. Singer s Pat nts.
The public are cautioned not to buy other machines con
taining I. M. Singer’s Improvements, as ail infringers will
be promptly and vigorously prosecuted. Price of Machines,
with all apparatus complete for immediate use, including the
right to use under the patent*, $125. Orders sent by mail,
or through either of the express lines, immediately execu
ted. Country merchants coming to New iork always fur
nish a convenient medium for the purchase of Machines.
Town, County or State Right# for the EXCLL3I\ E USE of
these Machines, for sale on most favorable terras. Ma

IMPROVEMENT IK SETTING BJHEBAL TEETH.
j tj iRK undersigned would respectfully call the attention
| X of the public to the following important improvement
i in setting Mineral Teeth.
Having purchased, at a heavy expense, the exclusive
I right to use AleiiS improvement in the county of Richmond,
f begs leave to cr.U attention to its superiority over all other
methods now in use.
First —Thai they are of greater strength.
Second-—The Teeth and Gums are fused to the plate, ma
j king it a single piece, and thereby rendering it impossible
for tire lodgement of food, which cannot be prevented by
i the ordinary modes; and also, the perfectly life-like ap
j pea ranee caused by the continuous Gums, and
Fourthly—by a better fit of the plate, and consequently
greater use in mastication.
Dr. Munson being now on a tour through the Northern
States, will visit the principal cities and procure all the
| late improvements, as he is determined not to be surpassed
I either in workmanship or durability.
The public are invited to call and examine specimens
now at his office, feeling assured that a simple inspection
1 will convince any one of it- importance and utility.

PATI'NI' MEDICINES
THE GREATEST COILh^REMEDY
EVER DISCOVERED.
| c - WILLIAMS’ COMPOUND PULMONIC BAL- J
I / SAM OP M ILD CHERRY AND WOOD NAPTHA
f r the complete cure of Coughs, Colds, Influenza, Asthma’ i
L ncuitO, Spilling of Liood, and all other Lung Complaints i
tending to Consumption. 1
READ! READ!!
This justly celebrated preparation is recommended by i
some of the most learned and intelligent Physicians iuthe i
country, and will be found superior to any remedy for the
cure of all diseases of the respiratory organs. All persons
who have u-ed i. for Asthma, Cough, Spitting of Blood,
V, hocking Cough, Croup, or Hives, Consumption, Pain,
Soreness cf the Breast, Difficulty o! breathing, and every
other disease of the Breast and Lungs, attest its superior
efficacy in the most unqualified terms.
In Pneumonia, a disease which is generally very dan
gerous and fatal, it is confidently believed to bo the safest
and most effective remedy that can be employed. It has
been known to cure in a short time some of the most dan
gerou cases of Pneumonia, after it had baffled every other
remedy.
Bronchitis, a disease which is annually sweeping thou
sands to a premature grave under the mistaken name of
Consumption, is promptly relieved and cured by it. The
usual symptoms of tl is disease (Bronchitis,) are Cough,
Difficulty of Breath ng, Hoarseness, Soreness of the Tbroat
or Lungs, Asthma, nectic Fever, accompanied with Spit
t'ngof Phlegm, or matt.r, am! sometimes Blood. It is an
iutlamation of the membrane which lines the inside of the
' whole o'the wind tubes or air vessels which run through
every part of the Lungs. Th.s Pulmonic Balsam irnmedi
■ ately suppresses the Cough and Pain, subdues the Imfla
i mation and Fever, removes the d. . culty of breathing, by
producing a free and easy Expectoration, so that a cure is
soon effected. It always cures in Ast ma. Two or three
; doses will cure the Croup or Hives of children in a few
minutes, and it is remarkable how prompt I is in subduing
the violence of Whooping Cough, and effect ng a speedy
cure, and many who have been given up byt tir Physi
cians as incurable in Consumption, have been re-tored to
perfect health by it. In fact, as a remedy in Pulmnary
Diseases, no medicine has ever obtained a higher or rrxrc
deserved reputation, iu the short time it has been before
the public.
This Pulmonic Balsam, if given in the commencement of
Pleurisy, Pneumonia, or in acute Rheumatism, in doses
{ large enough to produce a little nausea for eome time, (go
ing to bed and covering up warm,) will produce a free per
spiration, which, if continued for two or three hours, will
> cubdue those diseases at once.

the Lungs and Throat.
R. ad the following opinion founded on the long experi

St. Jouxs, May 8,1851.
i r. J. C. Ayer,—Five years trial of your CHERRY PEC
TORAL in my practice, has proven what I foresaw from
its composition, must be true, that it eradicates and cures
the colds and coughs to v hich we, in this section, are pecu

knew how a better remedy can be made for the distempers
of the Throat and Lungs. J. J. Burtox. m. d., f. r. s.
See what it has done on a wasted constitution, not only
in the following cases, but a thousand more:
• Sudbury, Jan. 24th, 1831.
Dr, Ayer ; In the month of July last 1 was attacked by a
v iolent tiiarrhma in the mines of California, I returned to
San Francisco in hope of receiving benefit from a change
cf climate and diet. My diarrhoea ceased, but was follow
ed by a severe cough—and much soreness. I finally start
ed for home, but received no benefit from the voyage. My
cough continued to grow worse, and when I arrived in New
York, I was at once marked by my acquaintances as a vic
tim of consumption. I must confess that I saw no sufficient
reason to doubt w hat my friends all believed. At this lime
1 commenced taking your truly invaluable medicine with
little expectation of deriving any benefit from its use. You
would not receive these lines did I not regard it my duty to
state to the afflicted, through yon, that my health, iuthe
space of eight months, is fully restored. I attribute It to
the u=e of your CHERRY PECTORAL.
Tours, truly, William W. Smith.

Dear Sir : Feeling that I have been spared from a pre

A Cough, and the alarming symptoms of Consumption
had reduced me too low to leave me anything like a hope,
when my physician brought me a bottle of your “ Pecto

fi v weeks time has restored me to sound health.
If i, will do for ethers what it has for me, you are cer

COSBY’S ANTI-DYSPEPTIC BITTERS.
'OEriIIAPS there is nothing more calculated to disgust
» the public eye than the innumerable advertisements of
i no.-trams that are constantly appearing in the public
prints. Asl are ready to exclaim, Our souls are sick, our
ear-; arc pained with every days reports of ills and speci
fic.-. This stale of the public mind would seem to forbid any
person of delicate mind from sending forth any new dis
cov.rk- in medicine to thetrial of the public: still motive*
of delicacy should not prevent us from making known real
discoveries, which wc arc confident wifi benefit our icllow
m a. This latter consideration has prompted the author cf
these Litters to make them known. He knows they are
highly efficacious, for he himself, hie wife, and many friends
have given them a thorough trial. He was , for many years,
a • mfirir .1 dj speptic—so much so that even his recollec
tion »as gone, but by tlic use of these Bitters he lias been
restored to perfect health. This has been the case with
many of his friends. The proprietor, in sending forth this
advertisement, addresses those who know him. He has
been, for many years, a resident of Augusta, but at this
time of Hamburg, 8. C.,at which place he can, at any time,
be consulted about the Bitters. They are good iu all cates
of diseases of the digestive organs, the symptoms of which
arc, indigestion, pain or oppression in the stomach from
food, loss of appetite, flatulency, heart-burn, giddiness in
the head, pain in the side, shortness of breath, lassitude,
general weakness, disturbed sleep, Ac. Tbc composition is
entirely Botanical, and has proved efficacious, where many
celN rated medicines had failed; in support of which he
could give reference to a number of persons, who hare
I made n trial of it, but deems it unnecessary, as he is willing
to place it on its own merits. All be asks is for those who
! are afflicted with dyspepsia to give it a trial.

In ever* care in which it has been tried in Lnglanu er the

the charge of Dr. Hastings, during five years that the
Naphtha has been in use, there has not been a singie ueaui
from disease of tlie Lungs, while previously patients had
died almost every week. In incipient stages of C>. > sump
tion the effect of the Naphtha Syrup is a 1 most miraculou.-,
and a cure effected in an incredibly short sj .ice ot time. In
the more advanced stages, and even in the third or last
dreadful division of this hitherto incurable disease, its ef
fect is equally wonderful. This period is marked by the
expectoration of the tubercles in cheese-like particles,
mixed with pus, mucous, blood, &c., and most generally ac
companied with diarrheh. On administering the N aphtha
Syrup, the formation of the tubercles is almost instantly ar
rested’, the foreign matter thrown off, the tubercles already
formed are destroyed, and the breathing immediately be
comes easier, and the patient, on the third night after fir»t
taking the Syrup, is often able to enjoy a quiet nights rest
—a thing unknown for weeks previously.
