AUGUSTA MAHRtT.
Saturday, P. M.
COTTON.—We note no change in the market to-day.
The demand is moderate at yesterday’s quotations.
SAVANNA H, Oct. I .—General Remark*. —We feel en
abled to state, with sources of information at our command
that can be relied upon, that the crop of Uplands will be a
large one. The wet weather on the sea coast, has not ex
tended far inland. The prospect is generally good, and we
risk httle in saying that with the absence of frost until the
middle of this month, most of the Georgia planters will
make nearly as much cotton as they can pickoi.t. Wecon
fidently expect to see from 40,000 to 50,0M0 bales more of
cotton received at this port this commercial year than ever
before—not only from the increased production, but from
new sources of supply.
Colton. —Arrived since the 23d ult. 2,289 bales Upland
(1,773- per Railroad, and 516 from Augusta and landings on
the river,) and 63 do. Sea Islands. The exports for the
same period amount to 1,524 bales Upland, and 81 do
Sea Islands, viz : to Boston, 304 bales Upland; to New
York, OSS bales Uplands and 81 do. Sea Islands ; and to
Charleston 232 bales Upland—leaving on hand and on ship
board not cleared, a stock of 3,245 Upland and 91 do
against 5,264 bales Upland, and 436 do. Sea Islands at
the same time last year.
At the close of our last weekly report the market was un
settled, and we found it difficult to give correct quotations.
Since that lime there has been rather a netter business do
ing, the stock having slightly increased, and there being
more de and. Holders in order to effect sales have been
obliged to accede to a decline of fully an %c. from the high
est prices of last week. On the first five days of the week
there was a moderate demand, the sales ranging from 100
to 150 hales per day ; yesterday the demand became more
general, and the sales summed up upwards of 400 bales. —
The market is still unsettled, and prices irregular, the fol
lowing quotations will, however, give a correct idea of the
current prices for strict classifications. We quote:
Middling to Good Middlin 10%®10%
Middling Fair
Fair 10, 7 a @.1l
The sales of the week amount to 1,156 bales, at the follow
ing particulars : 1 at : 4 at 9% ; 12 at 9% ; 103 at 10 ;
7 at 101-16 ; 72 at 10>, ; 204 at 10% ; 100 at 10% ; 85 at

Sea In/an'l*. —The receipts since the 28d, amount to 61
bales —the bulk of which has been sold at prices ranging
from 30 to 40 cents per pound. There are a few hales un
sold, which are held at BMch high figures that purchasers
are unwilling to operate. Os the new crop, about 20 bales
have been received up to the present time the most of
which has been sold at prices within the above range. The
first lot of the new crop was received here on the 16th
iusl.
Rir —There has been nothing doing in this article dur
ing the week. The stock still continues light. About 8000
bushels Rough Rice of the now crop has been received, but
up to the time of closing our inquiries yesterday, bad not
been disposed of. The weather, for several days past, has
been very favorable for harvesting, but the previous bad
weatber, freshets, Ae., have cut off a large portion of the
crop.
Com —The transactions during the week have been con
fined exclusively to the retail trade. The stock is light, but
sufficient to supply the demand. We quote from store at
75 (a '■o cents )* bushel, according to quality and quantify.
Flour- The stock of this article is very much reduced j
The salts during the past week have been confined alto- |
ether to the retail trade.
B("jying a .7 Hope —There has been re • demand for either j ;
of these articles.
Crorrrie*. —There tins been a heavy business doing dur
iog the past week in filling orders for the interior of this and
the adjoining States.

PATENT EXCELSIOR
STRAW, HAY AND CORN-STALK CUTTER.
-pm-: subscribers invite, the attention of Farmers, and
L all others interested in feeding Stock, to their newly- 1
invented CUTTER, which they confidently offer to the pub- j
lie as the most durable and effective Cutting Machine ever i ]
used. I
The Machine (except the leg? and hopper) is made cn- i
tirely of Iron and Steel, thus securing the important de
sideratum of durability; and being simple in iis construe- I
tion, there is but little liability to tret out >,f order.
The Knives are nineteen in number, of fine Cast Steel, ; I
with a cutting edge of thirty-seven ami a halt feet; they [
work against nothing but the material to be cut, therefore, i
they do not wear out the Machine or toon become dull;
anil when necessary they can be sharpened in five minutes I
without removing them Irani t he shaft.
With these Machines the cutting of foo l for a large stork | f
i- hut the work of a few minutes, and with them can be cut |
Hay, Straw, Fodder, Corn-Stalk., Pea-Vines, Turnips, ; *
Pumpkins, and all uch food as is used for Stock, and with j
siicli rapidity as is truly astonishing.
An inspection will convince all of its great superiority, |
and all interested will be pleased with this great improve- i
ment in Agricultural Implements. i
These Cutters arc securely boxed, so that they will hear j 1
transportation to any dis..vice without injury.

GROUND FOOD FOR STOCK.
rpHE Shakers of Waterveliet have said for thirty years
L they have been in the habit of grinding their food for
Stock, and find they have, by cooking it, a saving of one- j
third.
I, too, have been trying experiments, and find four mea
sures of Pea or Corn meal will make eleven measures of
thick mush, and if made of proper consistency, would make !
more than twelve. _ _ I
Let the water be boiling hot, and stir in the meal, and
you will find I am right.
Horses and Mules will do better and last longer. Our sta
ble men have found ii out, and say they have had less loss |
of lift and less sickness than they have ever known sim •
feeding on ground corn, and a great saving.
Five buehels in (he ear will crush out nine bushels.
Wbat a saving.
The Granite Mills are iu excellent order to do the?e things
for you with dispatch. The Crusher is new, and only awaits 1
vour Corn to show the benefit to arrive to both parties,
