MA! ER is an instrument invented by Prof. Btampfer, of
the I olytechnical School of Vienna, for the purpose of mea
sur.ng, with Bcwntijic Mturtness the degree of convexity
the eye 1 as lost by age, and it applies accurate numbers
of classes to counteract the defect. None, then, need here
afier comp ain that their spectacles pain their eyes, who
call on us to be fitted with Spectacles. Come and see for
yourselves.. Now, though we have taken much pains to
obtain this instrument, as well to inform ourselves with
reference to the appl cation of Glasses to remedy the de
fects of vision, we take pleasure in informing our patrons
and the public that we have become sole ager.ts ol Messrs.
Bal l & Co., for the sale of their recently invented Cup s,
which render spectacles entirely useless, even to the most
Aged person*, where eyes have lost their convexity from
age. We append, in favor of this invention, the following
letter from Professor Finney, of Oberlin College. The fact
in regard to the improvement of my sight by the use o'
Cups are these:
1 was wearing GLASSES of IS inches focus—l have had
them changed twice; and ain now writing in a bad
light with glasses of 4S inches focus, which is the lowest
magnifying powi r used by Messrs. Pike, lean now read
common print with ease with the lowest magnifying glass
es. I have used them agreeably to your directions about
four week*. I see not why 1 may not expect, in a short
time, to have my sight quite restored by continuing the use
of the cups. I cannot but regard this discovery as of great
value. Y’ours, truly,
(Signed) o. G. Finney.
P. a. I am iu my sixtieth year, and have worn glasses !
bout te n years.
Fviß’y. i, 1858.—Prof. Finney writes—l have, for the
last six or eight months, .sed them (the Cups) but seldom.
The improved state of my sight rendering me forgetful and
neglectful of their steady use. I have received much bene
fit and no perceptible injury whatever from their use.
M ith my olmcs open I read comfortably, and write easi
ly without glasses.
Other letters can beseenln the pamphlet, published by
Messrs. Bali A Co., in our possession.
