FREE TRADE AND NO k ONOPOLY
Opposition to High Freigh Tariffs!
Office of the Fashion Line. (
Augusta , Apt il 15, 1854. J
THE subscriber would respectfully call the attention f
the Merchants throughout Georgia, Tennessee, Ala
bama and South Carolina, to the Savannah River, as a
safe, expeditious and cheap route for the transportation of
their Merchandise.
By comparing the freight tariffs of this line with thoseof
the South Carolina, and Central, and Waynesboro’ Rail
roads, it will show a result in favor of this route of from 30
to 50 per cent., generally, and in some instances a greater
percentage.
By this route a merchant receives each shipment of his
Goods together; they are not retailed to him as they gen
erally are by Railroads connecting with the seaboard, with
a list of charges attached to each package.
In addition to the present force of this line, another new
Boat, of light draught of water, will be added during the
coming summer. These boats will leave Savannah after
the Discharge of the New York aud Philadelphia Steam
ships, twice or thrra times a week, delivering those Goods
at this point in FIVE DAYS.
From the present low tariff of this line a deduction of
percent, wiffbe allowed on nil bills from this date.
Give the liver more business, and a cheaper freight yet
awaits you.
Allgoodsfrom the seaboard should be directed to
M. A. COHEN, Savannah,
and produce from the interior to
JNO. A. MOORE, Augusta.
To the manufacturing portion of Georgia, as well as the
Cotton Merchants, and dealers generally, on the line of
Railroads through Georgia and Tennessee, who ship to
Savannah and Northern markets, thi3 route offers very
favorable inducements.
To facilitate shipments, as well as to prevent errors, bills
of landing should be forwarded to Ai. A. Cohen, at Savan
nah, for all gooffs fromseabord. JNO. A MOORE.
Incase of low river, all goods consigned io this line, will
be forwarded by Central, and connecting Railroads. apl6

. M. B. DAVIDSON’S FIRE KING SAFES:
I7IRE-PUOOF AND FBKKFHO.YS DAMPXEB&,
1 E. CORNING A CO., Agents, Albany, N. Y.—This
Safe received the highest premium, a Silver Medal, at the
Fair of the New-York State Agricultural Society, held at
Albany, 1850. Also, a Medal and Diploma for the best
Burglar and Fire-Proof Base exhibited at the State Fair
held at Utica, Sept. 1852.
THE FIRE-KING SAFES AGAIN TRIUMPHANT!
SIOOO will be paid, if reliable evidence is shown, where
they ever failed to protect valuables from fire, whereas
other makers’Safes have proved utterly worthless in va
rious accidental and experimental tests, some of which
have occurred recently. Read the following from Messrs.
A. McClure A Cos., wholesale and retail dealers in Drugs,
Medicines, Ac.:
Albany, July 27,1852.
This is to certify, that on the 23d of July, 1552, our en
tire stock, composed of Turpentine, Alcohol, Oi', Paints,
Medicines, Ac., was consumed by fire; so rapid and severe
was the fire, that we were unable to close our Safe, until
Mr. Pohlman subsequently entered at the peril of his life,
and closed the doors. On forcing the safe open, after all
this exposure to the fire, which made us fearful for the
safety of its contents, its valuables were lound uninjured 1
We have so much confidence in the security of the Fire-
King, that w e shall immediately replace it bv another.
A. McClure & Cos.
Anothf-r Test.—This is to certify, that on the 25th of
September last, we purchased of H D. Rice, Esq., one of
Mr. J. M. B. Davidson’s “ Fire-kings,” (No. 4, Single
Flange); that on the 14th Novembei*past,it was subject
ed to a very severe test, in the burning of out warehouse,
in which was stored a large quant ly of whiskey and other
combustible material. On opening our safe, we found all
our papers, consisting of biljs, letters and receipts, perfect
and entirely legible. Bradley A Cos.
Dunkirk, December 4,1852.
J. Al. B. Davidson s Fire-K.iug (safes, in Kxperi

This is to certify, that on the 7th of May, 1851,1 pur

and that the same was subjected to a severe test, on the
ISth of December, ISSI. Akei U.efire was extinguished
its contents (books andpaners,) were examined, and found
to be perfectly preserved, not a leu sos my books being
scorched. P. J. Claasskn,

After an examination oi P. J. Claasscc’s Safe and pa
