ception of patients. His Infirmary contains thirty large
well furnished Rooms, wi h plenty of good and trusty ser
vants always at hand. This is the first Institution of the
kind ever established in the Bouthern States, although
such an Institution has long been needed. Ladles Depart
ment strictiy private, if desired. They will receive the
daily attention of the proprietor, as well at one of the
most experienced Matrons in the South. Dr. Moseley's
treatment is generally without the nee of the knife, cane
ing very little pain. Patients are boarded at $1 per day,
or sls per month. Fee to be agreed upon before the case
is undertaken. All communications must be postpaid,

Every person desirous of obtaining a license, shall ap
ply la writing to the City Council, stating the number o;

piece where he or she intends carrying on such Ucenst
trade, and acoompanying the application with aoertiftcau
of two or more respectacw inhabitants of the immediate
neighborhood in which such license trade is to be carried
on, recommending the applicant as a fit perion to be en
trusted with eaoh license: Provided, however, that no one
shall sign more than o-e certificate, and that no such cer
tificate shall be signed by any person poseeaeed or or ap
plying for alioenae.
All licenses shall be and continue in force unt-1 the first
day of October next after the earns are granted, unle:s re
voked as hereinafter provided, nor shall there be any
abalemen t of the price of license under any circumstances.
If Oouucil grant the petmlseions tequested, the appli
cant shall, before the licenoe Is taken oat, produce to the
Olerk of Council the receipt of the Collector and Treas
urer, for the price of such licet se, and give bond with ap
proved security in tbe sum of five Hundred Dollars, for
keeping a decent and orderly house.
No retail Lloenee shall be transferred from one person
to another without the consent of the Oity Council, nor
shall any person he allowel to retail in more than one
place or room, at the same time nnder one license.
No person shall he permitted to retail epiritoos or fer
mented Liquors in any of the Streets of this Oity, under
any pretext whatsoever.
License retailers shall within five days after obtaining
their license affix a sign near to or over the door of the
leu.ment ia which the retailing is carried on, upon wbioh
in plain characters the words "License
Retailer of Spirilni liquor” which sign shall be con
tinned until the expiration o> the license end not a
day longer. No retailer shall sell spiritons or fer
mented liquors on Sunday or on Oily, State or County
Election day's, n r between the hours of 18 o’clock,
at night, and one hoar before sunrise nor after 11 o’clock
on Saturday night, nor shall they when not permitted to
retail keep open the door* or windows of their retsil shops.
Provided, That keepers of Hotels may be allowed to
furnish spirituous Liquors to their regular guests on Sun
day at their tables.
No License retailer i f spirituous or fermented liquors
shall permit any slave not owned by him or her, cr lawful
ly under hie or her care, or charge, to enter h'eor her
retail thopj, or retra n in It or on the lot attached there
to, at any time, or to loiter about the door or in the yard,
of any house where spirituous liquors are retailed.
No License reta ler of spirituous liquors shell give or
furnish any spirituous or intoxicating! liquors, or permit
them to be given, sold or furnished, by any person in tis
or her employment, to any slave or free perion of color, or
minors, without the written permission of the o neror
hirer oi said staves, or guardian of said free person of
oolor or minor.
Any license may be revoked by the City Council when
ever the party to whom it msy have been granted shall
be convicted before the Police Court, or the City Council
of a violation of this Ordinance for the seoond time and
the party whose license ia thus revoked shall not agein be
allowed to hold a license to reta'l for two year* from the
date of each revocation.
The following oath shall be taken by every person ob
taining a license, to be administered by the Clerk of
Council:
I da solemnly swear that I will n*t, daring the contin
uance of my license, sell, barter, give cr fu'niih to any
slave or slaves, or free person of color, any measure or
quantity of distilled spirituous or intoxicating liquor* with
out the verbal or written coneent of the owner, overseer
or employer of such slave oi slaver, or without the like
consent of the Guardian of such free pers ns of color,
and I do furtder swear, that I will not suffer or allow
any other person to do so for me, my approbation
knowledge or consent. And that I will not know
ingly and Intentionally violate any of the provisions
of this Ordinance, under which I hold my license, provided
that nothing in this Ordinance and the foregoing oath
shall be *o construed as to apply to cases of sties of liquor
for medical purposes so help me God.
It shall be the duty of eaoh and every pertoa permitted
to retail tpirituous liquors, to admit the Mayor, or any
member cf Council, or either of the City officers, into hit
or her premises at any time wheu such permission may
be demanded. Any person violating any part of this
lection shall be fined in a ram not exceeding one hundred
dollars. a
Be it further Ordained, that all Ordinances, or parts of
Ordinances mi Rating against this Ordinance, be and .the
same are hereby repealed.
