£ntry of Garibaldi Into Naples*—-Excit
ing Scene.
The liberator of Italy entered Naples on the
morning of the 7th ult. The National Guards of
the city were stationed aV the entrances of the
town to welcome him, and till the flags of the old
government were torn down. A letter to the
Loudon Times gives a description of his recep
tion :
At last twelve o’clock strikes anA a bell sounds,
and from a distance a signal is made that Garibal
di is approaching. “ Viva Garibaldi!” rises from
a thousand voices, and the train stops ; a few red
jackets get out, and they are seized, hugged and
kissed with that most unmerciful violence that
characterizes Italian ardor. There was one poor
elderly man who, by virtue ot his white beard,
was taken fe r Garibaldi, and was slobbered so that
I thought he must have sunk under the operation,
but the great man had gone round by another
door, and so there was a rush in all directions to
intercept him. We drove round by aside street
to the front of the Carmiue, and thus by a know
ing dodge we catue in front of the Dictator.
There is no mistaking that face ; there is the
grandeur and the openness of nature’s nobleman
expressed, and does not say one thing while plot
ting another ; it is marked by a loyalty which in
vain might be sought for in that of many so called
great ones of the earth. I was much struck with
his calm self-possession and the extreme sweet
ness of his smile. He was not in the carriage of
ihe French Minister, though I believe it had been
placed at Ins disposal, but iu one hired for the oc
casion. Followed and accompanied by three lines
of carriages, he went along the Marinella, through
ine A.SSO Porto, surrounded by thousands, and
deafeneef by their greetings, up the Lago Castello,
and so on by San Carlo and the Palace of the
King, whioh Royalty only left a few hours before,
and entered the Palace of reception for foreign
Princes. he crowd waved backward and for
wards, and jooked up to the windows and shouted
for the appearance of Garibaldi.
First camfc one red coat, then another, and at
last the he ro. What a cry of “ Viva” there rose
from the vast mass below ! When last that bal
cony was occupied, by a distinguished personage
it was by Ihe 1 fraud Duke of Tuscany, but in an
swer to no calls, for there were only a few of
those idlers who always hang about the palaces of
Princes. It wa,-s impossible to make himself heard
amid the noise and confusion, and so Garibaldi
leant over the u-on railing and gazed intently on
the crowd. A wave of the hand at last asked for
silence, but in vain. “ Zitti! Zitti /” rose from all
sides, and Ahere was a perfect silence. “Neapoli
tans,” sail a voice as clear as a bell, and with an
enunciation so distinct that nothing could fail to
reach the ear—
“ This is a, solemn, holy, and memorable day.
This day, from being subjects under the yoke of
tyranny, you have become a free people. I thank
you in the name of the whole of Italy. You have
performed a great work not only for ltaly, but for
!1 humanity, whose rights you have vindicated.
•Hurrah lor liberty,’ so much dearer to Italy inas
much as she has suffered so much more than oth
er nations. ‘Long live Italy !’ ”
Ihe cry was taken up by the thousands assem
bled, and “ Viva Italia !” might have been heard
from one end of the city to the other. There
were curious spectacles to be witnessed in the
crowd—there were members of a legion of Ama
zons to tjie number of 200, who, dressed in the
darlbald an uniform, had vowed to place them
selves in front of the National Guard and of Gari
baldi, in case the military had interfered. There
were priests with tri-colored scarfs over their
shoulders and banners in their hands, and bare
headed monks with muskets on their shoulders.
There were men and women with unsheathed
swords and daggers and swordsticks in their
hands, which they brandished in all the drunken
ness of enthusiasm. There were hundreds of
Lazzaroni, armed with pikes, which had been pro
vided for the defence of the barricades had the
Bourbons driven the people to such extremes.
Such were some of the scenes to be witnessed.
There is a torchlight procession in carriages
and on foot in the Toledo and other parts of the
city. Crowds rush along with torches or banners,
in one hand and knives or swords in the other,
like so many mad Bacchanalians, only they were
not drunk, except with joy and “newly found liber
ty, and Ihey stop and hug and kiss, and then rush
on till they meet with other crowds.
Goo News from thf. Interior of Alabama, —
The Selma Reporter publishes a letter of the 17th
inst., from Wilcox county, Ala., written by a gen
tleman whom the editor of the Reporter says he
knows well as a “sensible and well-balanced man
as any in the country.” We extract the follow
ing :
I availed myself of every opportunity possible
to converse with those of my acquaintances from
Monroe, Butler and the middle of this countv,
which seemed to be quite agreeable to them, all
giving Jthe most encouraging news from each
of their localities for Bell and Everett. One of
ray Butler friends says that county will give three
lymdred majority for Bell and Everett. My Wil
cox county friends think if this county was prop
erly canvassed, that there is a strong probability
that it might be redeemed from democratic thral
dom. I met with an old friend from Monroe who
used to say he was born a democrat, and raised a
democrat, and never voted for anybody but dem
ocrats, and of course 1 expected the'same old
song. I approached him, knowing him to be a
man of information, and could give me the politi
cal compaction of Monroe county, and to my as
tonishment, he was a strong advocate of Bell and
Everett.
I Will give his own statement, that others mav
profit by Ins example. Says he, “I know you are
a little surprised at my not supporting Douglas or
Breckinridge, as one or both of them are claiming
themselves to be National Democrats. But I will
give you my reasons why lam not. The old
Democratic ship got too many officers on board
too many wanted to command, and they got up a
mutinous feeling among the would-be-comman
ders, and they all got on a bust at Charleston
and applied the steam, and hoisted the sails,” and
run her on the reefs, and broke that good old
craft, that I loved so well, spang in two. The
bow floated North, and the stern South, and I fell
overboard, consequently I had to float until the
magnificent Constitutional Union ship came
mooring on to Washington City harbor, taken me
on hoard and saved me from the dangers which
had befallen me. So lam hollowing to my com
rades that have not yet boarded the Union ship to
come on, leave the old sinking concern, or vou
all will be lost, and I tell you old friend,’ Monroe
is for Bell and
Tub Navy and the Syrian Sufferers.— The
storeship Relief will be despatched from Boston on
the 15th of October for the Mediterranean. The
Secretary of the Navy has cheerfully responded
to a request that his vessel be directed to convey
thither such articles of clothing, fabrics, etc., for
the relief of the sufferers in Syria as the charita
ble in this country may have contributed up to
that period.

Tlie Florida Flection s.
Savannah, Oct. 3.—The following are all the
returns received here from the Florida elections,
which came off” on Monday :
In Fernandina, Gen. John Milton, Breckinridge
candidate for Governor, has a majority of 150 over
Gen. Edward Hopkins, Bell candidate. Col. Hil
ton, the Breckinridge candidate for Congress, has
a majority of 155 over Col. Allen, the Bell candi
date.
In Baldwin district, Duval county, the Breckin
ridge cardidates have a small majority.
The Douglas Democrats have no ticket in the
State.
Washington, Oct. 3. — Lord Renfroe and suite
are expected to arrive here at 3 o’clock this after
noon.
The Bellites claim to be the only national party
in the field. By way of proving the claim, they
polled 1200 votes the other day in Maine, against
sixty thousand Black Republicans and forty thou
sand Democrats. That looks “national,” don’t it?
Union and American.
Those 1200 votes for “the UnTon,” were better
than none. The Breckiuridgers polled no vote at
all —if they did they were for the Black Republi
can candidate. Those “ forty thousand Demo
crats” were Douglas men— every one of them !
Nashville Banner.
Old Buck Exerting Himself for Bell.— The
Postmaster at Keokuk, Mo., Col. Patterson, was
removed a few days ago, not for loving Democ
racy less, but for loving Douglas more, and Mr.
Jamieson, a Bell and Everett man, appointed in
his stead. This is the first good appointment
“Old Buck” has made since he became President.
We presume the old fellow perceives that, at the
4th of March next, all the Post masters will be
Bell and Everett men, and that he might as well
appoint a few of them himself, to lighten Mr. Bell’s
future labors. — St Lerois News.

HELMBOLD’S BUCHU for Excesses arising from Indisci e

sex, and from whatever cause originated, and no matter of how
long standing.
These symptoms, in part, are experienced often by sufferers
with diseases of the Bladder, Kidneys, Gravel and Dropsy, and
invariably by the injudicious or nervous and debilitated. It is a
fact, long since established, that any disease of these organs
affects the mind more than any and all others, and if allowed to
so on—which this medicine invariably removes—soon follows
,oss of Power, Fatuity and Epileptic Fits—in one of which the
patient may expire. Whc can say that these excesses are not
frequently followed by these direful diseases, Insanity and Con
sumption ? The record cf the Insane Asylums and the melan
choly deaths by Consumption, bear ample witness to the truth
of these assertions. In Lunatic Asylums the most melancholy
exhibition appears. The countenance is actually sullen and
quite destitute —neither mirth nor grief ever visits it. Should a
sound of the voice occur, it-is rarely articulate.
“ With woeful measures, wan Despair,
Low, sullen sounds, his grief beguiled.”
Debility is most terrible, and has brought thousands upon
thousands to untimely graves ; thus blasting the ambition of
many noble youths. It can be cured by the use of this infallible
remedy.
The mass of voluntary testimony in possession of the proprie
tor, vouching for its virtues and its curative powers, is immense,
embracing names well known to science and fame. Certificates
of cures. from one month to twenty years’ standing, and of the
most reliable and respectable character, are open for Inspection
from Governors of States, Judges, eminent Physicians, a?d dis
tinguished Clergymen.

Blood Food.
Healthy human blood upon being
ANALYZED
always presents us with the same essential elements, and gives
of course the true standard. Analyze the blood of a person
suffering from Consumption, Liver Complaint, Dyspepsia,
Scrofula, &c., and we find in every instance certain ‘deficiencies
in the red globules of Blood. Supply these deficiencies, and you
are made well. The BLOOD FOOD is founded upon this
Theory—hence Its astonishing success. There are
FIVE PREPARATIONS
adapted to the deficiencies of the Blood in different diseases.
For Coughs, Colds, Bronchitis, or any affection whatever of the
Throat or Lungs inducing Consumption, use No. 1, which is
also the No. for Depression of Spirits, Loss of Appetite, and
for all Chronic Complaints arising from over use, General De
bility, and Nervous Prostration. No. 2 for Liver Complaints,
No. 8 for Dyspepsia. Being already prepared for absorption, it
is Taken by Drops and carried immediately into the circulation,
so that what you gain you retain. The No. 4is for Female Ir
regularities, Hysteria, Weakness, Ac. See special directions for
this. For Salt Rheum, ErupiLms, Scrofulous, Kidney, and
Bladder Complaints, take No. o. In all cases the directions
must be strictly followed. Price of the Blood Food $1 per

And testimonials, new, and almost without number, might be
given from ladies and gentlemen in all grades of society, whose
united testimony none could resist, that Prof. Wood's HAIR
RESTGRATI YE will restore the bald and gray, and preserve
the hair of the youth to old age, in all its youthful beauty.
Battle Creik, Mich., Dec. 21st, 1858.
Prof. Wood : Thee wilt please accept a line to inform thee
that the hair on my head all fell off over twenty years ago,
caused by a complicated chronic disease, attended with an erup
tion on tne head. A continual course of suffering through lire
having reduced me to a state of dependence, I have not been
able to obtain stufl for caps, neither have I been able to do
them lip, in consequence or which my head has suffered ex
tremely from cold. This induced me to pay Briggs and Hodges
almost the last cent I had on earth for a two dollar bottle of thy
Hair Restorative about the first of August last. I have faith
fully followed the directions and the bald spot is now covered
with hair thick and black, though short, it is also coming in all
over my head. Feeling confident that another large bottle’
would restore it entirely and permanently, I feel anxious to
persevere in its use, and being destitute of means to purchase
any more, I would ask thee if thee wouidst not be walling to
send me an order on thine agents for a 1 Kittle, and receive to
thyself the scripture declaration—'“the reward is to those that
re kind to the widow and the fatherless.”
Thy friend, Susannah Kirby.
Ligonier, Noble Cos., Indiana, Feb. stli,’ 1859,
Prof. O. J. Wood—Dear Sir: In the latter part of the year
1852, while attending the State and National Law School of the
State of New York, my hair, from a cause unknown to me, com
menced falling off very rapidly, so that in the short space of six
months, the whole upper part of my scalp was almost entirely
bereft of its covering, and much of the remaining portion upon
the side and back part of my head shortly after became grey, so
that you will not be surprised wh -n I tell you that upon my re
turn to the State of Indiana, my more casual acquaintances
were not so much at a loss to discover the cause of the change in
my appearance, as my more intimate acquaintances were to re-.
cognise me at all.
I at once made application to the most, skilful physicians in
the country, but receiving no assurances from them that my hair
could agatn be restored, I was forced to become reconciled to
my fate, until, fortunately, in the latter part of the year 1857,
your Restorative was recommended tome by a druggist, as be
ing the most reliable Hair Restorative in use. I tried one bottle,
and found to my great satisfaction that it was producing the de
sired effect. Since that time, I have used seven dollars’ worth
of your Restorative, and as a result, have a rich coatoi very soft
black hair which no money can buy.
Asa mark of my gratitude for your labor and skili in the pro
duction of so wonderful an article, I have recommended its use
to many of my friends and acquaintances, who, I am happy to
inform you, are using it with like effect.
very respectfully, yours, ‘ A. M. Latta,

SCROFULA, OR KING’S EVIL,
18 a constitutional disease, a corruption of the blood, by which
his fluid becomes vitiated, weak and poor. Being in the cir
culation, it pervades the whole body, ana may burst out in dis
ease on any part of it. No organ is free from its attacks, nor is
there one which it may not destroy. The scrolulous taint is
variously caused by mercurial disease, low living, disordered or
unhealthy food, impure air, filth and filthy habits, the depress
ing vices, and above all, by the venereal infection. Whatever be
its origin, it is hereditary in the constitution, descending “ from
parents to children unto tne third and fourth generation in
deed, it seems to be the rou of Him who says, “ I will visit the
iniquities oi the fathers upon the children.”
Its effects commence bv .’.eposition from the blood of corrupt
or ulcerous matter, which, :n the lungs, liver and internal or
gans, is termed tubercles ; in the glands, swellings; and on the
surface, eruptions or sores. This foul corruption, which engen
ders the blood, depresses the energies of life, so that scrofulous
constitutions not only sutler from scrofulous complaints, but
they have far less power to maintain the attacks of other diseases;
consequently, vast numbers perish by disorders which, although
not scrofulous in their nature, are still rendered fatal by this
taint in the system. Most ot the consumption which decimates
the human family, has its origin, indirectly, in tins scrofulous
contamination: and many destructive diseases of the liver, kid
neys, brain, and, indeed, of ail the organs, arise from or are ag
gravated by the same cause.
One quarter of all our people are scrofulous ; their persons are
invaded by this lurking infection, and their health is undermined
by it. To cleanse it from the system, we must renovate the
bloed by an alterative medicine, and invigorate it by healthy
food and exercise. Such a medicine we supply in
AYER’S COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
SARSAPARILLA,
the most eflectual remedy winch the medical skill of our times
am devise for this everywhere prevailing and fatal malady. It
is combined from the most active remedial that have been dis
covered for the expulsion ol tills foul disorder trom the olood,
and the rescue of the system from its destructive consequences.
Hence it should be employed not only for the cure of Scrofula,
but also those other aftect ions which arise from it, such us Erup
tive and Skin Diseases, St. Anthony's Fire, Rose or Erysipelas,
Pimples, Pustules, Blotches, Blainsand Boils, Tumors, Tetter
and Salt, Rheum. Scald Head, Ringworm, Rheumatism, Syphi
litic and Mercurial Diseases, Dropsy, Dyspepsia, Debility, and,
indeed, all complaintsarising from Vitiated or Impure Blood.
The popular f-iirtibimpurlty of the blood” is founded in
truth, for Scrofula is a degeneration of the blood. The particu
lar purpose and virtue of this Sarsapa’rilla is to purify and re
generate this vital fluid, without which sound health is impossi
jle in contaminated constitutions.
AYER’S CATHARTIC PILLS,
For all the purposes of a Family Physic, are so composed that
disease within the range of their action can rarely withstand or
evade them. Their penetrating properties search, and cleanse,
and invigorate every portion of the human organism in correct
ing its diseased action, and restoring its healthy vitalities. Asa
consequence of these properties, the invalid who is bowed down
with pain or physical debility is astonished to find his health or
energy restored by a remedy at once so simple’and inviting.
Not only do they cure the every day complaints of everybody,
but also many formidable and dangerous diseases. The Agent
below named is pleased to furnish gratis my American Almanac,
containing certificates of their cures and directions for their use
in the following complaints: Costiveness, Headache arising
from disordered Stomach, Nausea. Indigestion, Pain and Morbid
Inaotion of the Bowels, Flatulency, Loss of Appetite, Jaundice,
and other kindred complaints, arising from a low state of the
body or obstructions of its functions.
AYER’S CHERRY PECTORAL,
For the rapid cure of Coughs, Colds, Influenza, Hoarseness.
Croup, and for the of Consumptive patients in advanced
stages of the disease.
So wide is the field of its usefulness and so numerous are the
cases of its cures, that almost every section of country abounds
in persons publicly known, who have been restored from alarm
ing and even desperate diseases of the lungs by its use. When
once tried, its superiority over every other medicine of its kind
is too apparent to escape observation, and where its virtues are
known the public no longer hesitate what antidote to employ
for the distressing and dangerous aflections of the pulmonary
organs that are incident to our climate. While many inferior
remedies thrust upon the community have failed and been dis
carded, this has gained friends by eve% trial, conferred benefits
©n the afflicted they can never forget, and produced cures too
numerous and too remarkable to be forgotten.

PROF. L. MILLER’S
HAIR INVIGORATOR.
AN EFFECTIVE, SAFE AND ECONOMICAL
COMPOUND,
FOR RESTORING GREY HAIR
to its original color, without dyin ■, and preventing the Hair
from turning grey.
FOR PREVENTING BALDNESS,
and curing it when there is the least particle of vitality for re
cuperative energy remaining.
FOR REMOVIN G SCURF & DANDUFF
and all Cutaneous Affectionr jf the Scalp.
FOR BEAUTIFYING THE HAIR,
mparting to it an unequalled gloss and brilliancy, making it
soft and silky in its texture, and causing it to curl readily.
The great celebrity and the increasing demand for this une
qualled preparation, convinces the proprietor that one trial is
only necessary to satisfy a discerning public of its superior quali
ties over any other preparation at present in use. It cleanses
the head and scalp from dandruft ar,d other cutaneous diseases;
causes the hair to grow luxuriantly, and gives it a rich, soft,
glossy and flexible appearance ; and also where the hair is
loosening and thinning, it will giv* strength and vigor to the
roots, and restore the growth to those parts which have become
bald, causing it to yield a fresh covering of hair.
There are hundreds of Ladles and Gentlemen in New York
who have had their hair restored by the use of the lnvigorator,
when all other preparations had failed. L. M. has in nis pos
session letters innumerable testifying to the above facts, from
persons of the highest respectability. It will efl'ectually pre
vent the hair from turning grey until the latest period or life;
and in cases where the hair has already changed its color, the
use of the lnvigorator will certainly restore it to its original
kime, giving it a dark, glossy appearance. Asa perfume for tlye
r toilet and a Hair Restorative, it is peculiarly recommended,
having an agreeable fragrance ; and the great facilities it affords
in dressing the hair, which, when moist wiiji the lnvigorator
can be dressed in any required form so as to preserve its placo,
whether plain or in curls—hence the great demand for it Dy the
ladies as a standard toilet article which none ought to be with
out, as the price places it within the reach of all, being
ONLY TWE NY- ?7 5 CENTS
per bottle, to be bad at all respectable druggists’ and perfumers.
L. MILLER would call the attention of Parents and Guar
dians to the use of his luvigorator, in cases where the childrens’
Hair inclines to be weak. The use of it lays the foundation for
a good head of Hair, as it removes any impurities that may
have become connected with the scalp, the removal ot which is
necessary, both for the health of the child and the future ap
pearance of its Hair,
