I: nfortunate and Fatal Accident. —A corres
pondent of the Eufaula (Ala.) Spirit of Use South,
narrates the following circumstances of a fatal ac
cident from the careless use of fire-arms which
occurred at the Military Institute at Glennville,
Ala , on the 29th ult :
Cadet John T. Kemble of Lowndes, and Cadet
A. J. Jones of Montgomery, (both State cadets,)
went out in the field in the rear of the hotel to
shoot at a target with a pistol which Kemble bad
borrowed, Kemble fired and handed the pistol to
Jones. While the latter was revolving the pistol
cylinder preparatory to shooting, it went off in
his hands. The ball struck Kemble in the back,
near the shoulder blade, ranging downward, and
inflicting a fatal wound. Kemole remarked to
Jones that he did not think he was much hurt,
and they started back to the hotel. After walking
about a hundred yards, Kemble fell upon the
ground, and immediately expired. They were
alone, and Jones then 14ft him and came up to the
village where he reported Kemble’s death. He,
Jones is quite young and inexperienced. In his
alarm aod trepidation at what had occurred, he
at first denied all knowledge of the affair. Subse
quently, after he had time to grow calm, he con
fessed as above stated, the particulars.
The young men were warmly attached to each
other, and both ot them highly esteemed among
their comrades. While we all deplore this truly
unfortunate occurrence, there is no doubt in the
minds of any that Jones’version of the affair is
strictly correct.
Jones’ first denial is regretted, but much allow
ance is to be made for a mere youth, so unfortu
nately placed, and so shocked as he was by this
unexpected and truly deplorable issue of his sport.
Florida Elections—First Gun.
We are indebted to a gentleman of this city lor
a private dispatch from Pensacola, giving the re
sult of the election in Escambia county on Mon
day. The Bell party achieved a complete aud
signal victory, electing their county ticket by a
handsome majority, and giving a large majority
for their State ticket. The following are the ma
jorities—all for regular Bell *aud Everett candi
dates :
Governor—Hopkins 245
Congressman—Allen 217
Senator—Abercrombie 241
Representative—Blount 195
The Senator elect is James Abercrombie, Jr.,
son of Hon. James Abercrombie, late of this vi
cinity. We rejoice to hear of his success.
At the State election two years, ago, Escambia
gave about 235 majority for Hawkins, the regular
Democratic candidate for Congress, over West
cott, independent Democrat, but that was not a
party test. The Opposition then elected both the
Senator and Representative by very small ma
jorities. At the Presidential election in 1856, Es
cambia, gave Buchanan 15 majority over Fillmore,
and Buck’s majority in the whole State was about
1500.
It will be seen that Hopkins for Governor leads
Allen for Congress, as we predicted on Monday.
The difference, however, is so small in Escambia
as to indicate that personal popularity had no
great influence in West Florida.— Col Enqr. 2d.
Fatal Shooting in Fatettkville, Tenn.—Pas
sengers on the Chattanooga road yesterday even
ing brought the announcement that James M.
Davidson, Esq., of Fayettville, was killed in that
place on Saturday night by a young man named
Carthy.. The particulars, according to the best
information we could get, are as follows : Several
days since Carthy was on a spree in Fayetteville,
and had considerable money, which he was waste
fully squandering and destroying. Mr. Davidson
and two other gentlemen prevailed upon him to
entrust it to their keeping, and after the voung
man got sober, Mr. D. returned it to him. Short
ly after Mr. D. left for this city, where he was an
nounced to speak, and returned on the morning
train from this place on Saturday morning, ana
which met with an accident, from which Mr. D.
and others miraculously escaped from death.—
During Mr. D.'s absence from his home the young
man, Carthy, asserted that Davidson had withheld
a portion of his money, and boldly charged him
with theft. On Saturday night after his return,
Davidson met the young man, when he reiterated
his charge, and Davidson denounced him as a
liar. Carthy immediately drew a self-cocking
repeater, and fired at Davidsou, the first shot
taking effect in the chin, turning him half round
the second in the side of his nock, turning him
again, and the third and fatal one in his back,
passing through his lungs. Davidson lived about
ten hours.
It is not unlikely that these particulars are sub
ject to alteration, as we have obtained them sec
ond hand. We presume a legal investigation will
bring them out accurately. —Nashville Banner, 2d.
Arrest of a Murderer. — James O’Conner, the
wife murderer, who made his escape from the jail
of this county, on the night of the lGth of August
last, came itfon the 20th of the present month, and
voluntarily surrendered himself to the officers of
the law. It will be recollected that O’Conner bad
twice been sentenced to be hanged for the murder
of his wife, and but one day was to have elapsed
before the execution of the latter sentence, when
a mandate was received from the Supreme Court,
staving the execution, on accouut of some infor
mality in its record. Pending this respite, O’Con- (
ner, with three others, cut through the jail and
made their escape. At the next session of the
•supreme Court, all questions remaining in the
case of O’Conner will be determined, and the
deep crime of which he is condemned, will be ex
piated by his atonement on ihe gallows.—Ana

‘these symptoms, in part, are experienced often by sufferers
with diseases of tne Bladder, Kidneys, Gravel and Dropsy, and
invariably by the injudicious or nervous and debilitated. It is a
fact, long since established, that any disease of these organs
affects the mind more than any and all others, and If allowed to
so on—which this medicine invariably removes—soon follows
.css of Power, Fatuity and Epileptic Fits —in one of which the
patient may expire. Who efra say that these excesses are not
frequently followed by these direful diseases. Insanity and Con
sumption ? The record of the Insane Asylums and the melan
choly deaths by Consuimition, bear ample witness to the truth
of these assert ions. In Lunatic Asylums the most melancholy
exhibition appears. The countenance is actually sullen and
quite destitut e—neither mirt h nor grief ever visits it. Should a
sound of the voice occur, it is rarely articulate.
“ With woeful measures, wan Despair,
Low, sullen sounds, his grief beguiled.”
Debility is most terrible, and Las brought thousands upon
thousands to untimely graves ; thus blasting the ambition of
many noble youths. It can be cured by the use of this infallible
remedy.
The mass of voluntary testimony in possession of tne proprie
tor, vouching for its virtues and its curative powers, is immense,
embracing names well known to science and fame. Certificates
of cures, from one month to twenty years’ standing, and of the
most reliable and respectable character, are open for inspection
from Governors of States, Judges, eminent Physicians, axd dis
tinguished Clergymen.
HELMBOLD’S EXTRACT BUCHU is prepared directly

HELMBOLD’S BUCHU is safe and pleasant In taste and

And testimonials, new, and almost without number, might be
given from ladles and gentlemen in all grades of society, whose
united testimony none could resist, that Prof. Wood's HAIR
RESTORATIVE will restore the bald and gray, and preserve
the hair of the youth to old age, in all Its youthful beauty.
Battle Creik, Mich., Dec. 21st, 1858.
Prof. Wood : Thee wilt please accept a line to inform thee
that the hair on my head all fell off over twenty years ago,
caused by a complicated chronic disease, attended with an emp
tion on the head. A continual course of suffering through life
having reduced me to a state of dependence, I have not been
able to obtain stufl for caps, neither have I been able to do
them up, in consequence of which my head has suffered ex
tremely from cold. This induced me to pay Briggs and Hodges
almost the last, cent I had on earth for a two dollar bottle of thy
Hair Restorative about the first of August last. I have faith
fully followed the directions and the bald spot is now covered
with hair thick and black, though short, it is also coming in aU
over my head. Feeliug confident that another large bottle
would restore it entirely and permanently, I feel anxious to
persevere in its use, and being destitute of means to purchase
any more, 1 would ask thee if thee wouldst not be wiling to
send me an order on thine agents for a bottle, and receive to
thyself the scripture declaration—“ the reward is to those that
re kind to the widow and the fatherless.”
Thy friend, Susannah Kirby.
Ligootkr, Noble Cos., Indiana, Feb. sth, 1859,
Prof. O. J. Wood—Dear Sir: In the latter pail of the year
1852, while attending the State and National Law School of the
State of Mew York, my hair, from a cause unknown to me, com
menced falling off very rapidly, so that in the short space of six
months, the whole upper part of my scalp was almost entirely
bereft of its covering, and much of the remaining portion upon
the side and back part of my head shortly after became grey, so
that you will not be surprised when I tell you that upon my re
turn to the State of Indiana, my more casual acquaintances
were not so much at a loss to discover the cause of the change in
my appearance, as my more intimate acquaintances were to re
cognise me at all.
I at once made application to the most skilful physicians in
the country, but receiving no assurances from them that mv hair
could agatn be restored, Fwas forced to become reconciled to
my fate, until, fortunately, in the latter part of the year 1857,
your Restorative was recommeded tome by a druggist, as be
ing the most reliable Hair Restorative in use. I tried one bottle,
and found to my great satisfaction that it was producing the de
. sired effect. Since that time, 1 have used seven dollars’ worth
of your Restorative, and as u i esult, have a rich coat oi very soft
black hairwliich no money ecu buy.
Asa mark of my gratitude lor your labor and skill in the pro
duction of so wonderful an article, I have recommended its use
to many of my friends and acquaintances, who, I am happy to
informyou, are using it with like effect.

SCROFULA, OR KING’S EVIL,
18 a constitutional disease, a corruption of the blood, by which
his fluid becomes vitiated, weak and poor. Being in the cir
culation, it pervades the whole body, ana may burst out in dis
ease on any part of it. No organ is free from its attacks, nor is
there one which it may not destroy. The scroiulous taint is
variously caused by mercurial disease, low living, disordered or
unhealthy food, impure air, filth and filthy habits, the depress
ing vices, and above all, bv the venereal infection. Whatever be
its origin, it is hereditary In the constitution, descending “ from
parents to children unto tne third and fourth generation in
deed, it seems to be the rod of Him who says, “ 1 will visit the
Iniquities ol the fathers upon the children.”
Its effects commence by reposition from the blood of corrupt
or ulcerous matter, which, :n the lungs, liver and internal or
gans. Is termed tubercles ; in the glands, swellings; and on the
surface, eruptions or sores. This foul corruption, which engen
ders the blood, depresses the energies of life, so that scrofulous
constitutions not only suffer from scrofulous complaints, but
they have far less power to maintain the attacks of other diseases;
consequently, vast numbers perish by disorderswhich, although
not scrofulous in their nature, are still rendered fatal by this
taint in the system. Most ot the consumption which decimates
the human family, has its origin, indirectly, in this scrofuluus
contamination: and many destructive diseases of the liver, kid
neys, brain, and, indeed, of all the organs, arise from or are ag
gravated by the same cause.
One quarter of all our people are scrofulous ; their persons are
invaded by this lurking infection, and their health is undermined
by it. To cleanse it from the system, we must renovate the
blood by an alterative medicine, and invigorate it by healthy
food and exercise. Such a medicine we supply In
AYER’S COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
SARSAPARILLA,
the most effectual remedy winch the medical skill of our times
can devise for this everywhere prevailing and fatal malady. It
is combined from.the most active remedial that iiave been dis
covered for the expulsion ol this foul disorder trom the biood,
and the rescue of the system from its destructive consequences.
Hence it should be employed not only for the cure of Scrofula,
but also those other affections which arise from it, such as Erup
tive and Skin Diseases, St. Anthony's Fire, Rose or Erysipelas,
Pimples, Pustules, Blotches. Blalns and Boils, Tumors, Tetter
and Salt Rheum. Scald Head, Ringworm, Rheumatism, Syphi
litic and Mercurial Diseases, Dropsy, Dyspepsia, Debility, and.
Indeed, all complaintsarising from Vitiated or Impure Blood.
The popular belief in “impurity of the blood” Is founded in
truth, for Scrofula is a degeneration of the blood. The particu
lar purpose and virtue of this Sarsaparilla Is to purify and re
§en crate this vital fluid, without which sound health is impossi
le in contaminated constitutions.
AYER’S CATHARTIC PILLS,
For all the purposes of a Family Physic, are so composed that
disease within the range of their action can rarely withstand or
evade them. Their penetrating properties search, and cleanse,
and invigorate every portion ot the human organism in correct
ing its diseased action, and restoring its healthy vitalities. Asa
consequence of these properties, the Invalid who is bowed down
with pain or physical debility is astonished to find his health or
energy restored by a remedy at once so simple and inviting,
Not only do they cure the every day complaints of everybody,
but also many formidable and daugerous diseases. The Agent
■ below named is pleased to furnish gratis mv American Almanac,
containing certificates of their cures and directions for their use
in the following complaints: Costiveness, Headache arising
fTOm disordered Stomach, Nausea, Indigestion, Pain and Morbid
Inaotion of the Bowels, Flatulency, Loss of Appetite, Jaundice,
and other kindred comhlaintß, arising from a low state of the
body orbbstructions of its functions.
AYER’S CHERRY PECTORAL.
For the rapid cure of Coughs, Colds, Influenza, Hoarseness.
Croup, and for the relief of Consumptive patients In advanced
stages of the disease.
So wide is the field of Its usefulness and so numerous are the
cases of its cures, that almost every section of country abounds
in persons publicly known, who have been restored from alarm
ing and even desperate diseases of the lungs by its use. When
once tried, its superiority over every other medicine of its kind
is too apparent to escape observation, and where its virtues are
known the public no longer hesitate what antidote to employ
for the distressing and dangerous affections of the pulmonary
organs that are incident to our climate. While many inferior
remedies thrust upon the community have failed and been dis
carded, this has gained friends by every trial, conferred benefits
©n the atillcted they can never forget, and produced cures too
numerous and too remarkable to be forgotten.

PROF. L. MILLER’S
HAIRIPIGORATOR.
AN EFFECTIVE, SAFE AND ECONOMICAL
COMPOUND,
FOR RESTORING GREY HAIR
to its original color, without dying, and preventing the Hair
from turning grey.
FOR PREVENTING BALDNESS,
and curing it when there is the least particle of vitality for re
coperative energy remaining.
FOR REMOVING SCURF &DANDUFF
and all Cutaneous Affections jf the Scalp.
FOR BEAUTIFYING THE HAIR,
mpartiDg to it an unequalled gloss and brilliancy, making it
soft and silky in its texture, and causing it to curl readily.
The great celebrity and the increasing demand for this une
qualled preparation, convinces the proprietor that one trial is
only necessary to satisfy a discerning public of its superior quali
ties over any other preparation at present in use. It cleanses
the head and scalp from dandrutl and other cutaneous diseases ;
causes the hair to grow luxuriantly, and gives it a rich, soft,
glossy and flexible appearance; and also where the hair is
loosening and thinning, it will give strength and vigor to the
roots, and restore the growth to those parts which have become
bald, causing it to yield a fresh covering of hair.
There are Tiundreds of Ladles and Gentlemen in New York
who have had their hair restored by the use of the Inrigorator,
when all other preparations had failed. L. M. lias in his pos
session letters innumerable testifying to the above facts, from
persons of the highest respectability. It will effectually pre
vent the hail’ from turning grey until the latest period of life ;
and in cases where the hair has already changed its color, the
use of the lnvigorator will certainly restore it to its original
hue, giving it a dark, glossy api ..ranee. Asa perfume for the
toilet and a Hair Restorative, it is peculiarly recommended,
having an agreeable fragrance ; and the great facilities it affords
in dressing the hair, which, when moist with the lnvigorator
can be dressed in any’ required form so as to preserve its placo,
whether plain or In curls—hence the great demand for it by the
ladies as a standard toilet article which none ought to be with
out, as the price places it within the reach of all, being
ONLY TWE NY-? 7 3 CENTS
per bottle, to be had at all respectable druggists’ and perfumers.
L. MILLER would call the attention of Parents and Guar
dians to the use of his lnvigorator, in cases where the childrens’
Hair inclines to be weak. The use of it lays the foundation for
a good head of Hair, as it removes any impurities that may
have become connected with the scalp, the removal ot which is
necessary, both for the health of the child and the ftiture ap
pearance of its Hair.
