The Kentucky State Central Executive Com
mittee of the Union party have published an ad
dress recommending the Bell and Everett men of
Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania to disregard
their preferences for Gubernatorial candidates in
their respective States, and throw their votes in
such manner as best calculated to prevent the
success of Mr. Lincoln.
Uxiox Meeting at Dadeville, Ala.—The Tus
kegee Republican of the 4th inst. says : “The
Bell and Everett party had an imposing demon
stration at Dadeville, on the 22d ult. Five thou
sand people were’ present, including a large num
ber of ladies, who are always to be found on the
side of the Union. Col. Watts was present, and
made one of his happiest efforts. Col. Baker also
addressed the meeting, in his characteristic style.
Those who have been fortuuate enough to bear
these gifted champions of the Constitutional
l nion party, need not be told that their speeches
were productive of much good. Our cause is
gaining ground rapidly in Tallapoosa, and in
November next its hills and dales will reverberate
with the swelling tones of the National Bell.”
Mysterious.—lt will probably remembered by
some.of our readers that the mail was robbed,
several years ago, somewhere between this city
and West Point, of a pouch containing a consider
able amount of money. All efforts to get any clue
to its disappearance proved abortive for some
time, until ■finally a negro man, who was employ
ed on the railroad, conducted himself in such a
manner as to lead to bis suspicion. Some time
after the robbery was committed, this negro, who
was owned by a widow woman in Tallapoosa, made
a proposition to his mistress to purchase his free
dom She. accepted it, and the money was paid
over. When this ocourrence was heard of, steps
were immediately taken to have him arrested.
After this was done, the lash was applied almost
mercilessly to make him tell all about it; but with
singular obstinacy he endured the infliction with
out giving any satisfaction to those who were in
terrogating him. However, after he had been de
prived of nis freedom, and had become the pro
fierty of another person, he was sent to New Or
eans to be sold. On his way there he acknowl
edged, so we are informed by the gentleman who
carried him, that he threw the pouch into the
river just below tho ravine. He revealed nothing
more than this at that time, although it was evi
dent that he kneA where the remainder of the
money that had been stolen was bidden. The
other day, we are credibly informed, whilst
some railroad hands were digging about the foot
of the ravine in question, a piece of stove pipe
was discovered, and upon an examination of it, a
roll of rotten bank bills, carefully enveloped in a
woolen rag, was found. The pipe had rusted
badly, and thefbills were matted in dirt aDd rust.
Although it was impossible to preserve any of
them, some few issued by the Central Bank were
identified. — Mont. Advertiser, 4fA.
Strange Occurrence. —A Murderer Wanders
Six Years, and at Last Gives Himself up to Justice.
—A man named Samuel Stanley, who has been,
cccording to his own story, a wanderer for the
last six years, has voluntarily surrendered him
self to the sheriff at St. Paul, Minnesota, and de
sires to be sent back to Cabel county, Va.-, where
he says he is charged with the homicide of a man
named Peyton. The murder took place six years
ago. He tacitly confessed his guilt in stating that
the homicide was caused by his having discovered
Peyton in criminal connection with his wife, and
by saying that he did not think his punishment
would exceed a short term in the penitentiary.
For the past three years Stanley (who is native of
Ohio) has worked in Minnesota, and previously in
Wisconsin. He recently returned from a visit to
Pembina, on the Red River. The editor of the St.
Paul Pioneer, who had an interview with him, in
jail, says:
Without manifesting much contrition for the
crime, or fear ofpunisnment, he imagined, wher*
ever he lived, that everybody looked upon him as
a murderer. The elements even whispered in his
ears, when he had abandoned the society of men,
and lived alone in the depths of the forest. Con
sequently he has had no abiding place for six
vears, but has roamed through the country from
Texas to Minnesota, suffering, as he says, more
than a hundred deaths. At last, almost worn
out, he came to the conclusion to deliver himself
up, that alter the sentence of the law had been
executed, he might again live among his friends,
or make a home where he would be undisturbed
by its terrors. The tale of his wanderings is
strange and interesting—so strange that it oc
curred to us that his mind was not sound, but we
could detect no evidence of mental aberration,
and nothing in his conduct that could not be re
conciled in view of the awful crime he had com
mitted.
The Military Organization of the Wide
Awakes, in the North, to carry on the “irrepres
sible conflict” against the South, continues to
agitate and excite the Southern Press. The
Wide Awake attack upon the New York Hotel
adds new fuel to the flame. All the Southern
Press, more or less, hare something to say. The-
South seems to he brooding over a coming peril
very much as Patrick Henry, Marion and Sump’-
ter brooded before the coming legion of Great
Britain. We, in the North, know we can take
care of all this. We have to be marched over
first, before our Southern countrymen can be
touched. But the folly, the crime, of orgeSzi™
a mere Northern partv, with President and Vice
President exclusively from the North, 10 wage an
irrepressible conflict” with the South, and then
“equipping,” “drilling” and “parading” an arm
ed organization to carry on that conflict all re
mam to attest that Fanaticism and absence of all
patriotism, that characterise Republicanism. {

tion next week, we forbear making any comments

In one of Mr. Bell’s latest speeches we have th
following patriotic sentiment, in which all men
ought to concur : “Let power go into whatever
hands it may, let us save the Union ! I trust the
day will never come when it will be neccessarv to
calculate the value of the Union. Ido not believe
it will come if the South is wise and true to her
self. I would not have her people yield one jot or
tittle of tbeir rights, but I would have them make
no questionable issues in advance, stir up no strife
upon abstract questions, but to do always what is
just and right upon U questions.”

HELMBOLD’S BUCHU for Excesses arising from Indiscre

sex, and from whatever cause originated, and no matter of how
long standing.
These symptoms, in part, are experienced often by sufferers
with diseases of the Bladder, Kidneys, Gravel and Dropsy, and
invariably by the injudicious or nervous and debilitated. It is a
fact, long since cstablisheu, that any disease of these organs
affects the mind more than any and all others, and if allowed to
go on—which this medicine invariably removes—soon follows
Loss of Power, Fatuity and Epileptic Fits—in one of which the
patient may expire. Whe can say that these excesses are not
frequently followed by these direful diseases. Insanity and Con
sumption ? The record cf the Insane Asylums and the melan
choly deaths by Consumption, bear ample witness to the truth
of these assertions. In Lunatic Asylums the most melancholy
exhibition appears. The countenance is actually sullen and
quite destitute —neither mirth nor grief ever visits it. Should a
sound of the voice occur, it is rarely articulate.
“ With woeful measures, wan Despair.
Low, sullen sounds, his grief beguiled.”
Debility is most terrible, and has brought thousands upon
thousands to untimely graves ; thus blasting the ambition of
many noble youths. It can be cured by the use of this infallible
remedy.
The mass of voluntary testimony in possession of the proprie
tor, vouching for its virtues and its curative powers, is immense,
embracing names well known to science and fame. Certificates
of cures, from one month to twenty years’ standing, and of the
most reliable and respectable character, are open for inspection
from Governors of States, Judges, eminent Physicians, avd dis
tinguished Clergymen.
HELMBOLD’S EXTRACT BUCHU is prepared directly
according to the rules of Pharmacy and Chemistry, with the
greatest accuracy and chemical knowledge and care devoted in
its combination. See Prof. Dewees’ valuable works on the
Practice of Physic, and most of the late Standard Works of

given from ladies and gentlemen in'all grades of society, whose

RESTORATIVE will restore the bald and gray, and preserve
the hair of the youth to old age, in ail its youthnil beauty.
Battls Cbxik. Mich.. Dec. 21st, 1853.
Prof. Wood: Thee wilt please accept a line to inform thee
that the hair on my head aH fell off over twenty years ago,
caused by a complicated chronic disease, attended with an erup
tion on the head. A continual course of suffering through life
having reduced me to a state of dependence, I nave not been
able to obtain stuff for caps, neither have I been able to do
them up, in consequence of which my head has suffered ex
tremely from cold. This induced me to pay Briggs and Hodges
almost the last cent I had on earth for a two dollar bottle of thy
Hair Restorative about the first of August last. I have faith
fully followed the directions and the bald spot is now covered
with hair thick and black, though short, it is also coming in all
over my head. Feeling confident that another large bottle
would restore it entirely and permanently, I feel anxious to
persevere in its use, and being destitute of means to purchase
any more, I would ask thee if thee wouldst not be willing to
send me an order on thine agents for a bottle, and receive to
thyself the scripture declaration—“ the reward is to those that
re kind to the widow and the fatherless.”
Thy friend, Susannah Kirby.
Ligositr, Noble Cos., Indiana, Feb. sth, 1559,
Prof. O. J. Wood—Dear Sir: In the latter part of the Year
1652, while attending the State and National Law School of the
SMtc of New York, my hair, from a cause unknown to me, com
menced falling off very rapidly, so that in the short space of six
months, the whole upper part of my scalp was almost entirely
bereft of its covering, and much of the remaining portion upon
the side and back part of my head shortly after became grey, so
that you will not be surprised when I tell you that upon my re
turn'to the State of Indiana, my more’ casual acquaintances
were not so much at a loss to discover the cause of the change in
my appearance, as my more intimate acquaintances were to re
cognise me at all.
I at once made application to the most skilful physicians in
the country, but receiving no assurances from them that mv hair
could agath he restored, I was forced to become reconciled to
my fate, until fortunately, in the latter part of the year 1557,
your Restorative was recommended to me by a druggist, as be
ing the most reliable Hair Restorative in use. I tried one bottle,
and found to my great satisfaction that it was producing the de
sired effect. Since that time. I have used seven dollars’ worth
of your Restorative, and as a result, have a rich coat oi very soft
black hair which no money can buy.
Asa mark of my gratitude for your labor an and skill in the pro
duction of so wonderful an article, I have recommended its use
to many of my friends and acquaintances, who, I am happy to
informyou, sire using it with like effect.
Very respectfully, yours, A. M. Latta,

SCROFULA, OR KING’S EVIL,
IS a constitutional disease, a corruption of the blood, by which
his fluid becomes vitiated, weak and poor. Being in the cir
culation, it pervades the whole body, ana may burst out in dis
ease on any part of it. No organ is free from iu attacks, nor is
there one which it may not destroy. The scrofulous taint is
variously caused by mercurial disease, low living, disordered or
unhealthy food, impure air, filth and filthy habits, the depress
ing vices,’and above all by the venereal infection. Whatever be
its origin, it is hereditary in the constitution, descending “ from
parents to children unto tne thirii and fourth generation :” in
deed, it seems to be the rod of Him who says, ** I will visit the
Iniquities oi the fathers upon the children.”
Its effects commence by teposition from the blood of corrupt
or ulcerous matter, which, :n the lungs, liver and internal or
gans, is termed tubercles ; in the glands, swellings; and on the
surface, eruptions or sores. ‘1 his foul corruption, which engen
ders the blood, depresses the energies of life, so that scrofulous
constitutions not only sutler from scrofulous complaints, but
they hare far less power to maintain the attacks of other diseases;
consequently, vast numbers perish by disorders which, although
not scrofulous in their nature, are still rendered fatal by this
taint in the system. Most ot the consumption which decimates
the human family, has its origin, indirectly, in this scrofulous
contamination: and many destructive diseases of the liver, kid
neys, brain, ana, indeed, of al! the organs, arise from or are ag
gravated by the same cause.
One quarter of ail our people are scrofulous ; their persons are
invaded by this lurking in faction, and their health is undermined
bv it. To cleanse it from the system, we must renovate the
blood by an alterative medicine, aud invigorate it by healthy
food and exercise. Such a medicine we supply in
AYER’S COMPOUND EXTRACT OK
SARSAPARILLA,
the most effectual remedy which the medical skill of our times
can devise for this everywhere prevailing and fatal malady. It
is combined from the most active remedial tiiat have been dis
covered for the expulsion ot this foul disorder lrom the oiood,
and the rescue of the system from its destructive consequences.
Hence it should be employed not only for the cure of Scrofula,
but also those other affections which arise from it, such as Erup
tive and Skin Diseases, St. Anthony’s Fire, Rose or Erysipelas,
Dimples, l’ustules. Blotches, Blainsand Boils, Tumors, Tetter
and Sait Rheum. Scald Head, Ringworm, Rheumatism. Syphi

indeed, al! complaints arising from Vitiated or Impure Blood.
The popular beUqf ip “ uaphrtty. jif Hrn iU.jY.iiii, w jn
truth, for Scrofula is a degeneration of the blood. The particu
lar purpose and virtue of this Sarsaparilla is to purity and re
§e tie rate this vital fluid, without which sound health is impossi
le In contaminated constitutions.
AYER’S CATHARTIC PILLS,
For all the purposes of a 1 amiiy I’hyslc, are so composed that
disease within the range ot their action can rarely withstand or
evade them. Their penetrating properties search, and cleanse,
and invigorate every portion of the human organism in correct
ing its diseased action, and restoring its health v vitalities. Asa
consequence of these properties, the invalid who is bowed down
with pain or physical debility is astonished to find his health or
energy- restored by a remedy at once so simple and inviting.
Not only do they cure the every day complaints of everybody,
but also many formidable and dangerous diseases. The Agent
below named is pleased to furnish gratis my American Almanac,
containing certificates of their cure* and directions for their use
in the following complaints: Costiveness, Headache arising
from disordered Stomach, Nausea, Indigestion, Pain and Morbid
Inaction of the Bowels, Flatulency, Loss of Appetite, Jaundice,
and other kindred complaints, arising from a low state of the
body or obstructions of its functions.
AYER’S CHERRY PECTORAL.
For the rapid cure of Coughs, Colds, Influenza, Hoarseness.
Croup, anil for the relief of Consumptive patients in advanced
stages of the disease.
So wide is the field of its usefulness and so numerous are the
cases of its cures, that almost every section of country abounds
in persons publicly known, who have been restored from alarm
ing and even desperate diseases of the lungs by its use. When
once tried, its superiority over every other medicine of its kind
is too apparent to escape observation, and where its virtues are
known the public no longer hesitate what antidote to employ
for the distressing and dangerous affections of the pulmonary
organs that are incident to our climate. While many inferior
remedies thrust upon the community have failed and been dis
carded, this has gained friend* by every trial, conferred benefits
onthe afflicted they can never forget-and produced cures too
numerous and too remarkable to be forgotten.

FOR BEAUTIFYING THE HAIR,

soft and suky in its texture, ana causing it to curl readily.-
The great celebrity and the increasing demand for this une:
quailed preparation, convinces the proprietor that one trial is
only necessary to satisfyadiscerningpublicofitssuperiorquali
ties over any other preparation at present in use. It cleanses
the head and scalp from dandruff and other cutaneous diseases;
causes the hair to grow luxuriantly, and gives it a rich, soft,
glossy aud flexible appearance; and also where the hair is
Loosening aud thinning, it will give strength and vigor to the
roots, and restore the growth to those parts which have become
bald, causing tto yield afresh covering of hair.
There are hundreds of Ladies and Gentlemen in New York
who have had their hair restored by the use of the Invigorator,
when all other preparations had failed. L. M. has in his pos
session letters innumerable testifying to the above facts, from
persons of the highest respectability. It will effectually pre
vent the hair from turning grey until the latest period or fife;
and in cases where the hair nas already changed its color, the
use of the Invigorator will certainly restore it to its original
hue, giving it a dark, glossy appearance. Asa perfume for the
toilet aud a Hair Restorative, it is peculiarly recommended,
having an agreeable fragrance ; and the great facilities it affords
in dressing the hair, which, when moist with the Invigorator
can be dressed in any required form so as to preserve its placo,
whether plain or in curls—hence the great demand for it by the
ladies as a standard toilet article which none ought to be with

u. MILLER would call the attention of Parents and Guar

Hair Inclines to be weak. The use of it lays the foundation for
