AUGUSTA: Printed by JOHN E. SMITH, Printer to tub State; EJfays, , Articles of
Intelligence , Advertisements , &c. will be gratefully received , and every kind of Printing performed.
To the Speaker of the Lower House and all that
are in it ; likiwife the Prejiaent and Mem
bers of Senate.
The Petition* of soldiers who are sorely
diftrefs’d,
la to your wisdom and justice addrefs’d.
Gentlemen ,
T X / E are happy to find that your honors
VV have met,
The soldiers, we hope, you will not forget.
We flatter ourselves, so honest a band,
Will immediately pay the soldiers their land.
You ne’er in your lives, saw such a d—•—d
pother,
As the soldiers have made among one another.
Some have given their goods, clothes, money
and ponies,
For the lands that you promis’d beyond the
Oconies,
Such fighting and squabbling you never did
fee,
For the rights of state soldiers on the Oconee.
When his Honor the Governor issued his
Proclamation,
We were ready to fight the whole Creek nation.
«* Bravo!” fays one— “ huzza •” fays another.
And each son of Mars would encourage his
brother.
When the war was gone through and they
came to disband,
A few certificates you gave them, but where
is their land l
In June last you met, and made an uproar
’Bout Yazoo, and ihut up the Trealury door;
And tho* we poor soldiers have nothing to do
With Tencfiee, Bigby, or cursed Yazoo,
In malice to them the fcheroe it was plan’d,
That wrong’d us, poor soldiers, of money
and land.
Th© ’that was to us a mod terrible flam,
Our cettificates are now rot worth a d—.
A m r, we are told, lately rofc in the
H —e,
He fit A fcratch’d his head—perhaps for a 1 e,
The soldiers misfortune results from his fault,
His tongue’s like a horse bcil when licking of
fait;
And then with a fliew of much wifdatn he
said,
He thought that the soldiers were very well
paid.
tt We gave them certificates, wasn’t that
« fair?”
Your honors well know much out of repair.
Men once may be bit, by a promise or so,
But try them again, and they’ll answer you, no.
They’ll tell you, when once with ill treatment
they’re warm’d,
Remember your ptomifes never perform d.
Honefly is the best policy— and you 11 l»nd it
true, ■ k
That honefly only will carry you through.
Then may it please your honois to give us our
And then for your welfare we ever will pray.
And as in duty bourn! our prayers lhall be
fervent, .
So, Gentlemen we are your most humble
fervent*.
