At Fort jefferfon, on the nth of Decem
ber, in the 47th year of his age, of the wound
he received in the unfortunate atfion of the
4 th November, died, Col. George Gibfoh.
The fufferings of this brave aud gallant offi
cer, from the nature of his wound, and front
his fituatton in a wretched hovel, without a
chimney, crowded with the sick, the wound,
cd and the dying, without the assistance of a
surgeon, and without even medicine neceflary
to perform a cure or alleviate the anguilh of
the wound, must have been great; yet he
submitted to them all with that firmnefs of
xniud, and patience of disposition, for which,

the campaign. from the uniform courtesy <nd
polrccefs of manners, he had gained the es

by his humanity and kind attention to the
soldiers, be had endeared bimlelf in a par

Gibson, on that day, is pafied over in silence
in the official account, he conducted himfelf
with great bravery aud resolution, and re

troops in the last charge.
