After debating on this proposition, Mr.
Clarke moved for dividing it; which motion
being seconded, the question was taken on
the firft clause of the resolution, as far as the
word *‘ reasonable,” this was negatived, on
ly nine members riling in the affirmative—
It was then moved, to resolve as the opinion
of the committee, that the prayers of the
petitions from the officers of the several lines
cannot be granted. This motion was agreed
to, when the committee rose and reported
the last resolution—The yeas and nays for
adopting this resolution being demanded, are
as follow:

dent observes, on the posture of our affairs—-
the admiuiftration of the general government,
even the integrity of our purest charters,
from some inflamatory northern writers, be
mud lament, to find our condition irretriev
ably desperate—the administrations as rotten
as the Britiffi, and a combination farmed, to
impose on the United States the semblance
of virtue. .. . ,
To this representation is super-added the
hackneyed dirges of an array unpaid—fpc
culators enriched, foreign debts uncomplied
with and, in a word, every brace and spoke
in the wheels of government unfit for opera
tion, and likely to continue so until certain
tharußers (lull affum* the supreme direftion
of a republic to whose princieles they were,
and ever will remain opposed.
Tho* every syllable of this is refuted and
laughed at, yet it is the duty of every good
man who has the fuperinteadance of a FREE
PRESS, that inestimable ENGINE of public
happiness, reserved for the last ages o* the
world, so far to notice such produfticns as to
preserve as much as poffibie, within toe ex
gent of his own circle, every good citizen from
she baneful anarchical contagion intended to
spread from the virtu out labors of those inge
nious men so eager to change the whole f/f

The following extraft of a letter, dated
CharUftonfS.C.) December. 44, is copied
from the Norwich Register of Jan. 14.
«. A few dars since, departed this me
HENRY LAURENCE, Esq. about 70 years
of age, and his corps was burnt the third day
after his decease. This was done by his Son,
at the request of the Father ; who made this
reserve in his will that unless hit Jon complied
with his request, beJhoM he cut port of any

The ashes remaining from the body were
taken up, and put into a silver urn made for
that purpose. The reason that Mr. Laurence
gave for this lingular desire, was that ht%

' at to o'clock in the forenoon on Tuefday the

John Spencer, fifteen miles from Savannah on
the Augusta road. They will be fold on that
day and the day following, in famtliea.
Conditions Cash.
Seized and taken udder execution u the
property of Godm Guerard, Esquire.
And on the ißrb the Thursday following,
at 10 o'clock, in the forenoon, at the fame
place,
All those Five LOTS of LAND, con*
taining fifty serfs each, in the village of
Abercorn, on which is an elegant three dory
house, built of cyprcfs materials, and finifhed
in the neatest manner, with every out building
fuicable for a large family; about 100 acres of
the laud arc dared, and part of the fame under
fence, the remainder well timbered with eak
and hickory.
Likewise, Four different Traits OF TIDE
BWAMP, containing in the whole 350 acres,
ficuated on Abercorn island, in one body, di*
rcflly opposite to the afore (aid village, 100
acres of which have been dammed and plan*
ted with rice, the remainder well timbered
with cypress of a large growth, and so 6:u«
ated as to ass >id a pleafiag view from tbe high
land and dwdling-houfe; and in quality foe
rice land equal to any in Georgia.
Likewise, One other trail of tide SWAMP*
containing 200 acres, about two miles up the
creek, large cane and cypress land, suitable fog
the culture of corn, indigo, or rice.
Also, a trail of Pine Land, containing 100
acres, adjoining the said village, well timber*
ed, Containing toge:her 900 acre*, ficuated
about 16 miles above Savenuah, on the road
leading to Augusta. The premises are so well
known that futher defeription* are unnecef*
fary.
Also Twenty-Four NEGROES, men wo*
men, and childern.
Conditions of file cafli. The titles to the
lands arc clear and iudifputable, and may be
fceo on application at my office.
The whole seized and taken under execution
as the property of the H ji>, Clement Martin,
dcceafed.
And on tbe 30th the Saturday following,
at one o'clock, at tne Vendue-Houfe, in the
City of Savannah, Twenty-fire NEGROES,
prime fellows, wenches, boys and girls.
