AUGUS rA. PTinted by JOHN E. SMII H, Printer to the State/ Essays, Articles of Intelligence, -Advev—

T*o those v bom it mojl concerns.
A PROPOSITION was, fame time ago, pu
blished in this paper, for a convention of all
denominations of Christians within this state, &c.
&c.
Approbation of the design was waited for; and
therefore, neither time nor place was mentioned.
But lately it has been suggested, that such silence
was a defeat.
Hence an additional proportion is now, with
great deference, submitted.
“ That the convention or meeting be in Auguf
«* ta, on the firft Tuefday in November next."
Should any other time or place be thought more
eligible, notice thereof is lequefted to be sent to
the Printer.
Another, and a very serious proposition is, also,
submitted.
For some time past, it has been obvious to re
flection that; the woman, as foretold in the apoca
lypse, has fed into the wilderness; and that the wa
ter poured out by theferpent as a Jloody to carry away
the woman, hath increased in an awful manner,
grieving and annoying the friends of the woman,
and her child.
It is therefore submitted, If it might not be a
token for good ; or if it doth not become people so
afflicted, to set apart one particular day, on which,
ail denominations of Christians within the Hate,
ihould, at places mod convenient for them, as
semble together and unite, with one heart, and
one voice, humbly to deprecate the wrath of the
Almighty—to implore His strengthening grace,
and the aid of His holy spirit, to support them,
that are thus bowed down, and afflitted; to increase
the number of believers, and to Jtay those waters,
that they may not pass over our fouls , and carry
away His holy church.
For this great and general folemniry, the second
Thursday in October next, is proposed: and de
voutly is it wished, tnat all denominations of
Christians unite therein.
On that solemn occasion, universal charity and
benevolence (hould poflefs every heart and mind;
so that all profeifional diftinCtions be laid entirely
afide.*
For it is not the external form ; but the meek
uefs and purity, the heavenly disposition and tem
per of the heart and mind, that can ever afeend, as
a memorial before our God.
Societies approving this design, will please
to give notice to the printer; and if they prefer
any other day, let that day be mentioned.
