A NEW SONG TO AN OLD TUNE.
At Walmer, there lately was held confu
tation.
About the best method of faying the Na
tion ;
There was Melvill and Pitt, Sir Homi*
Popham and Keith,
Whofwore they would dajh Nappy’s threats
in his teeth. Derry Down,
Now heated with wine, there no danger ap
pear’d, r
The fiiccefsof the scheme, not a foul of them
fear'd j
An'dxronfijlting together, contrived a grand
plan % t |
To destroy the French Navy bv Catamarans
Derry Down.
Colonel Pit v look’d quite big, as he pufli’d
round the bottle,
And fancied he had Bonaparte by the
throttle 5
Lords Melville and Keith hob a nob’d
while Home Popham
Os the fcenc talk’d so much, that they feafee*
ly could flop him. Derry Down,
Then having determin'd without more ado
That Body’s flotiih’t to Davy fhouldgo—
They refolv’d that the mare our old foe to
affright,
This daring attempt should be made in ths
night, Derry Down.
And Melville, cock-sure, of receiving
some fporr,
Left for onctf alt the joys, and the comforts
of Port;
And boldly declar’d, he’d not flee from the
danger,
But go out to fia tho' to Jhips quite a firan
ger. Derry Down.
He here fhew'd his art, for our ex
pound,
Thcr's no reason to think he will ever be
drown’d j
Then quickly he hurried away from the ta
( ble >
And went in his namesake, 'yclept the Aim
able. Derr} Down,
Now fafely on board, from fair Aibion they
fail’d;
Sir Home hop’d fiicee/s, where brave Nel
son had fail’d j
The atttack then began, aud before it was
over,
Some flaming accounts soon reach’d London
from Dover, Derry down.
And dwelling the 'whole , on the very fame
notes,
Allur'd us the loss was a hundred old boats.
The news, like a wild fire, they quick o’er
fpread—
Some run, they fcarcc knew on their heels
or their head, Derry down.
If the question you afk'd, were the flocks
lowor high ?
One hundred and fifty , was all the reply ;
In short, all the way from the court to the
city,
The flotilla’s deflruftion was every one's
ditty. Derry down.
But, lo ! what a change will a day or two
show j
For truth now declares, we've scarce injur'd
the foe;
And after the whole of his trouble and paint
“ The Giant, refrelh'd.' finds his labors
in vain. Derry down*
Then Britannia, be wife, trust the fchc

But drive the ‘vile reptile away from yous

Too long have you cherifli’d the profligate
