The Subftriber, who has been blind for a
number of years, having found benefit from
the application of the down of a Turkey

Horrid Murder mar CUrkJknrg* Fir.
Last night, Abel Clemmons, at his
place of refldcnce upon the lands of col.
George Jackson, within about an half mile
of the tpwn ot Clarkfbarg, under eifeum
ftances of the most unprecedented cruelty,
murdered hts wife far advanced in pregnancy,
and their eight small children, the oldest
about 12 years old, by linking them ©n
the head while they were asleep in three -
fepirate beds, ly'ing in the fame rootn !
The wounds that he gave, it is fuppefed,
produced instantaneous death, dispatching
each one at a blow—and every circumftancc
induce a billet, that thofc lift dispatched,
were unknown to the catastrophe of the
others. Clemmons had been preparing for
some time, and fixed upon next Thursday
for his removal to the state of Ohio. A
man.named Neifty, who purchased part of
his crop, went early this morning to the
house, and was admitted by Clemmons,
wh© was in great agitation, and apparently
in a state ot infanky—the family, as Neifly
supposed, were asleep, except a little girl,
nctee of Clemmons, who staid all night in
the hoafe —but knew nothing that occurred.
Neilly, after conversing some time with
Clemmons, left the house unfufpicious of
what had happened ; a brother «f Clem
monPs, wh®'lived- some miles ofF, and was
goino" to remove with him, foo« afterwards
cameTto the hoafe and found him in it; he
enquired where the family were-—Clem- j
mons said asleep--he approached one of the
beds t© awake the oldest boy, when he im
mediately difeovered that all the childien
in k were murdered ! He accused his brother
with the crime, and then ran and alarmed
the neighbors—before they assembled, Clem
mons had fled. Here was exhibited a feene
the most shocking to relate —the wife and
an infant in her arms lay in one bed, tear
daughters in another, two boys and a gin
in a third —all murdered by the Imfoand
and the father—and what is remarkable,
he had always lived with them in a most
affhftionate manner, and _ they core the
charaftcr of honesty and industry. Clem
mons had been far fevcral weeks in a gloomy
melancholy m©od, occasioned, it was lup
poled, bv his anxiety for the welfare ot
his numerous family. He is abo.t thirty
three years ©ld, five feet seven inch*# high,
bui.lt strong, fair complexion, light hair,
and has loft some of his front teat.r
The friends of humanity are entreated to
use due diligence to apprehend him—and
the printers througkt the United State, are
requeft.d to insert this adrer.iiemcnt in
their paper a few times.
