Near Savannah, upon the Ogeechee livers, wo
have a band of several hundred negroes, armed
and equipped, committing arson, plundering the
inhabitants and destroying every thing in their
path, and driving men, women and children from
life. Wo could give the highwaymen our money
to save our life, but we could not give tho as-

the people of tho North a shout of execration
that would ascend to Heaven? Would not the
whole American army be appealed for to come !
down and suppress tho rebellion? Of course
such would be tho ease; but, in regard to the
Ogoechee troubles, scarcely a voice i* heard from
the Republican party in condemnation of them.
And yet the white people of the South are con
tinually being held up to public execration by
tho Radical press and leaders as traitors and

tion more patently than the Southern people;
and if they aro so desperately wicked and law
less, why do the people of Savannah submit to
the outrages of the Ogeokee negroes instead of
Rallying forth, armed with weapons and ven
geance, and sweep those black miscreants and
co-workers of the Radical party from the very
faco of tho earth? Instead of being actuated by
revenge, tho Savannah people havo patiently en
deavored to restore peace and quiot and subjec
tion to good order through the peaceful opera
tions of tho law, without the shedding of blood.
And, yet, iu tho face of this, it ia not a long
stretch of the imagination to see how theso very
troubles will be turned to tho disadvantage of
tho whites of the South, judgiug Congress by
its acts of the past. Even now, while Congress
has the condirion of Georgia under considera
tion with an eye to placing the State again un
dor military rule and espionage, no doubt exists
in our mind but what there are busy minds at
work to torture the Ogeeohee troubles into justi
fiable rebellion against the oppression of the
whito people.
Should tho leaders and manipulators of tho

to back them with the military, to foreo us to
