Wednesday next to inspect tho premises, on
which occasion, wo suppose, tho books Of flub-
sciiption will close. Now is the best ltijid of
chance we know of for investment of surplus
money, from which early returns may bo ex
pected. For particulars apply to Judge Swan
son and Mr. Wise.
Our friuuds will see that tho Reporter takes
the liberty of suggesting u name for the proposed
factory in tho caption of this artiolo. Tho situ
ation is a beautiful prospect and tho prospect is
good for a paying investment.
7. {5* The Soldier Dead of Troup.—The
friends of the soldiers of Troup, who died from
diseaso or in battle, uro recpiestod to write
sketches containing date of birth aud death,
when, where and by whom enlisted, battles iu
which they engaged, when, whore, and how they
died, and any other fact of interest, aud liandj
tho sketches to the Tux Collector, who will soon
go through the county, or send them to the
writer.
Will not tho gentb mon who havo heretofore
taken an interest in this matter, let the above be
generally known, and assist iu getting up the
sketches ?
The names and many sketches ,uo on tile, and
the writer desires to complete the sketch-book
and publish it during this v^-.r.

.Slaughter, —Our friend, the stove man,
is not a savage man, but a law and order citizen.
He is particularly fond of order, and is doing all
he can to establish it iu every household with
good cooking stoves, which gives peace, quiet,
comfort and order to every family. Every wife
ought to have a cooking stove. It will make
her good tempered, and thereby order is secured
by the good humor such a convenience imparts
to the housewife. No man ought to have a wife
unless he is willing to subscribe for his county
paper and invest in a cooking stove. Get a
"Charter Oak." Slaughter says it is a good
thing. As he wishes to give his customers satis
faction, he wouldn’t risk his reputation by sell
ing a sorry thing.

arable complaint in regard to the bad condition
•of many of tho bridges iu various portions of
jthe oonnty —rendering thorn dangerous to cross.
Wo would say to our friends in the country that
■our industrious Ordinary will remove all causes
4‘or such complaints as fust as he can do so. He
finds little or no money in the county treasury
to bo applied to any purpose; but we are certain
lie will make, every effort, as we know him to be
a public spirited man, to conserve tho public
good whenever it is possible for him to do so.—
By all means ojir bridges should l>e kept in good
iind safe condition.

office a very nieo, convenient editorial dealt,
the work of Air. Kener’s cabinet factory, at this
place, and altogether ono of tho best arranged
institutions wo have over seen in the possession
of a poor editor. It lias * ‘ a place for everything, ”
and we’re trying to put ‘‘everything in its plnco."
The wood work was done by our young friend,
Mr. John W. Johnston, iu a most haudsome-liko
manner, and the painting by Mr. Itobt. A. Moore,
in neat and tasty style. Both of these young
men are LaGrango boys, and have learned their
trades in Mr. Honor’s establishment, and both
are first-rate workmen and deserve credit for tho
pride they take in their honorable callings. To

Court, removable nt his pleasure, to meet at the
Court-house on the first Monday in June bien
nially, whose duty it shall bo to select from the
book of tin: Receiver of Tax Returns "upright
and intelligent persons" to serve as Jurors, and
to make out tickets, with the names of the per
sons so selected, which said tickets shall bo put
in a box to be provided at tho public expense;
which said box shall have two apartments, mark
ed number ono and two, and which shall be
locked up and sealed by the Judge, aud placed
in the cure of the Clerk and ,tho key in
the care ot the Sheriff, and i.o Grand nor
Fctit Jury shall be drawn but in the presence of
the Judge, in open court. Nor shall any person
oji unv pretense, whatever, open said box, or
alter the names placed therein, and any person
so offending, upon conviction of the same, shall
be punished by fine and imprisonment in the
common jail of tho eountv, ut the discretion of
th«* Court.
Sec. 2. lie it further enacted, That the Judges
of tin- Superior Courts, at the close of each term,
in open Court? shall unlock said box and break
the seal, and cause to be drawn from apartment
No. 1 not loss than eighteen, nor more than
twenty-three names to serve, us Grand Jurors
at the next term of the Court. After which, said
Judge ahull proceed to draw out of tho same
apartment thirty-six names, to serve ns Petit
Jurors for the trial of civil and criminal cases;
all <if which names so drawn out as aforesaid
shall be deposited iu apartment No. 2; and when
all the names shall have been drawn out of apart
ment No. 1, then the drawing shall commence
from apartment No. 2, aud the tickets bo return
ed fo No. 1, aud so on alternately; and no name,
so deposited ns aforesaid in said box, shall, oiC
any pretense whatever, be thrown out of said
box or destroyed, except when it is satisfactori
ly shown to the Judge that the Juror is dead, re
moved out ol‘the countv, or otherwise disquali
fied by law.
Sec. 3. lie it further enacted. That whenever,
from any cause, the Judge shall fail to draw Ju
ries as provided in this act, it shall be the duty
of the Ordinary of the county in which such fail
ure may have occurred, together with the Commis
sioners and Clerk of said county, to meet at the
Court House at least twenty days previous to the
next ensuing term of the Court, whether such term
he a regular or adjourned term, and then and
there draw Grand and Petit Jurors to serve at
that term, all of which shall be duly entered by
said Clerk on the minutes of the Court and
signed by the Ordinary.
Sec. 4. lie. it further enacted. That within thir
ty days alter said Jurors shall have been drawn
by a Judge of tlic Superior Court, and within
live days after they may have been drawn by
the Ordinary and Commissioners, as herein pro
vided, the Clerk of the, Superior Court shall is#;-
Kue and deliver to the Sheriff*, or his deputy,
precept containing tho names of the persons
drawn as Grand Jurors, and also a precept con
taining the names of the persons drawn ns Petit
Jurors; and upon tho receipt of said precept,
tho Sheriff, or his Deputy, shall cause the persons
whose names nro therein written to be served
personally, or by leaving the summons at their
most notorious places of residence, at least ten
days prior to tho Term of tho Court the Jurors
were drawn to attend.
Sec. 5. lie it also enacted, That a Grand Jury
shall consist of not less than eighteen, nor
more than twenty-three persons, and that the
duties of a Grand Jury shall be confined to such
matters and things as by tho laws aud statutes
of this State a Grand Jury are required to per
form.
Sec. 6. Be it also enacted, That the Judges of
Superior Courts in this State, at each term,
they shall, from tho Petit Jurors, have made up
two* pnnncls of twelve jurors which shall bo
known and distinguished as paunols number one
aud number two; all Equity cases, collateral is
sues, aud issuable pleas, Ac., in said Courts,
shall be tried by tbe one or tho other of said
pannels, provided the parties can agree upon a
pannel to try the same. But in the event the
I nirties cannot agree upou a pannel, then it sh:dl
)o the duty of tho Clerk to furnish the parties
or their attorneys with a list of both pannels;
from which said list the parties orltheir attorneys
may strike alternately, nntil there shall be but
twelve left, which shall constitute tho Special
Jury to try tho case. In all cases the plaintiff
shall have the first strike. Each pannel of tho
Petit Jury shall take tho oath presoribed for
special juries in Beotion, 3035 of the new Code
and Grand Qmud JuroiH shall take tho oath
contained in section 3817 of tho suruo Code:
Provided: That the Judge may in hi« discretion
have Hpoiul Jul ies selected from the Grand Jury
in tlm manner heretofore proscribed by law
for tho purpose of trying hsues in civil cits h.
Hko. 7. lie it also enacted, That if any per
son shall be drawn afl a juror, and duly Huin-
moned to appear as such ut court; or if any per
son shall be summoned os a Tales Juror, and
shall neglect or refuse to appear; or if any juror
shall absent himself without leave of the Court,
then uud in that event it shall be lawful for the
Court to tine snob person iu a sum of not more
than forty dollars.
Sec. 8. lie. it further enacted, That when from
challenge <# from any other cause, there is not
a sufficient number of persons in attendance
to complete the pannel of Grand Jurors, or ei
ther pannel of Petit Jurors, tho Court may order
tho Sheriff or liis Deputy to summon persons
qualified, us hereinbefore required, sufficient to
complete the pannel. Aud when the Sheriff’, or
his deputy is disqualified to summon talesmen
us aforesaid, then they may bo summoned by
tlm Coroner, or snoli other person as tho Court
may appoint.
Sec. U. lie it also enacted, Tlmt on the trial of
criminal offenses, loss than felonies, tho Solici
tor and tlm accused may select either pannel
of the Petit Jury to try tho ease*. But in the
event the Solicitor and tho accused cannot agree
upou a pannel then Die Court shall have a
pannel made up of tho twenty-four Petit Jurors
m attendance, of which tho accused shall
have 111 * right to challenge seven prcrcmptorial-
ly, and tho State five. The remaining twelve
shall constitute the Jury.
Sko. 10. lie it also cnU'ted, That when any
person shall stand indicted for any offense which,
upon conviction, may subject him to the punish
ment of death, or to imprisonment in the Peni
tentiary, it shall be the duty of tho Court to
have ompannclled forty eight Jurors, twen
ty-four ot whom shall he taken from tho two
pannels of Petit Jurors from which to select the
jury for tho trial of such offence, and in the
event tho jury cannot bo made up of said
pannel of forty-eight, tho Court shall con
tinue to furnish paunols consisting of such num
ber of Jurors as tho Court in its discretion may
think proper, until a Jury is obtained.
Sec. 11. Be if also enacted That on the revisal
of the jury box, as provided in this Act, it
shall bo the duty of the Clerk to make out a list
of all the names in the box—the same to bo ul-
pUabeticully arranged - and to place said list of
file in his office, wliich said list shall be certified
by the Ordinary, Commissioners und Clerk, to
contaiu all tho names placed in the Jury box.
Sijo, 12. lie. it also enacted That the Ordinary,
Clerk of tho Superior Courts, and three Commis
sioners in t:ic different counties in this State,
shall meet ut the Court House within thirty days
ufter the passage of this Act, to organize Jury
Boxes according to the provisions of this Act;
and that the Jury boxes in this State shall be
j revised, us heroin provided, on the first Monday
; in Juno 1870, and over thereafter biennially on
tho first Monday iu June.
Sec, 13. Be it also enacted, That after tho Jury
■ Boxes shall have been organized as provided in
i the previous section of this Act, the ordinaries
1 and tho Commissioners in their respective eouu-
j ties shall immediately proceed to draw Grand
aud Petit Jurors to servo at the next term of
the Superior Court; which Jurors shall be sum
moned a*provided in this Act—all at’ which shall
| lie duly entered by the Clerk on tho minutes of
his Court ami signed by tho Ordinary.
Sko. 14. lie it also enacted That *tho com
pensation of Grand und Petit Jurors sliull
be ono dollar for each und every day they may
Sec. 15 lie it also enacted. That an act to au
thorize the holding of tlio Superior Courts of
this State at the ensuing Fall Term and to pro
vide Juries therefor, approved August 27, 1808,
be and the same is hereby continued in force,
until Juries can bo drawn under this uct ; uud
all juries now drawn shall be considered and are
hereby declared legal.
Sbc. 10. This Act shall go'into effect from and
immediately after its passage.
Sec. 17 lie it further enacted, That for the pur
pose of supplying juries for the several superior
and city courts in this State, which aro now sus
pended for the want ot proper juries; and for
those whose times of holding may occur before
tlio provisions of this Act can be made available,
tlmt the respective Judges of said Courts, or the
Ordinaries of tho respective counties, together
with the Clerk of said Court, and tho Sheriff of
tlio county, be and they are hereby authorized
from the jurors whose n.uu xs are now in tlio
Grand and Petit Jury Boxes of said Courts, (the
said boxes to be consolidated, so as to make no
classes) to draw such Grand and Petit jurors as
may bo neecessavy to serve ns a Grand Inquest,
and lor the trial oi all causes, civil and criminal,
in accordance with the Constitution and existing
laws of this State*, and all such tilled jurors ns
limy be necessary from time to time to complete
said juries: and that tho venire hi* made return
able to the approaching term of the said Court,
' or to such day ot* the Term as tho Judge may
; direct, provided that each regular juror so drawn
; shall bo summoned at least two days before tho
. term of said Court, or tho day uppuin.od by tho
I Judge; and that all verdicts und other acts done
1 by such Jurors shall be lawful and regular to all
j intents und purposes: Provided that this section
l shall not be construed to be in conllict with the
! fifteenth (15) Section: and that tlm Judgos of
j said Courts, in their discretion, may avail tlioni-
! selves of the provisions of either ol* the said soo-
! tiouft. And bo it further provided, that the pro
visions of this section shall not be of force for
j the holding of any Court whose term may coiu-
! no nce after the first ol June next,
j Sko, 18. All laws and parts of laws conflicting
with this act are hereby repealed.
