Mr. Mark McCulloh, of Beulah,
has accepted a position with and is
woi king for the Eady-Baker Grocery
Co.
Clifford Quillian has accepted a
clerkship at the post office.
In the absence of the pastor, who
is assisting in revival services at
\\ hitesville, Mr. J. 1). Johnson con
ducted services at the Baptist church
^ui day morning. At the Methodist
church, the pastor also being absent,
Hev. J. C. Davidson conducted ser
vices. The night services at that
church were in charge of the Ep-
worth League,
We "were glad to see Mr. J. Fries-
lfchen on the streets Tuesday after a
two w r eeks’ illness.
Mr. U. A. Bird and Miss Kula
llipp, both of LaGrange, were mar
ried at the circuit parsonage last
Thursday morning, the ceremony
being performed by Bev. T. S. Ed
wards.
Mrs. M, L. and Miss Louie Whit
man returned last Friday after a
pleasant visit to Atlanta.
Misses Lula and Lillian Croft re
turned Saturday from an extended
visit to friends in North Carolina.
Mr. M. M. Tatum visited LaGrange
Sunday.
Mr. II. T. Woodyard has moved
his family back to his residence
which has been extensively improv
ed. It now not only one of the
prettiest, but also one of the most
comfortable houses in the city.
W. A. P oer moved his family from
bis farm near Denson to this city
last week and they are occupying
the Hagedorn residence on the east
side. Our people heartily welcome
them.
The T. K. Club was charmingly
entertained by Miss Jimmie Earl
Jackson Tuesday evening.
The Public School will open its
fall term Monday, Sept. 0. hot ev
ery pupil who can he present
promptly on time the first day. The
private schools of Mrs. Angie Wil
kinson and Misses Lula and Lillian
Croft over in Lanett will open at the
same time. Each of these deserves a
liberal patronage-
Allmand Griggs, son of our fellow
townsman, Dr. J. W. Griggs, has
lately purchased the Evening Dis
patch of Norfolk, Va. He is an ex
perienced and capable newspaper
man and we wish for him much suc
cess as editor of the Dispatch.
After a protracted illness, Maj. B.
F. Keed died at his 'home out near
Johnson's Mill last Saturday night.
For a number of years Mr. Heed was
intimately identified with the busi
ness interests of West Point. He
was a genial, enterprising man and a
public spirited citizen. He had been
in an extremely critical condition for
quite a while and his death was not
unexpected. The bereaved wife and
children have the sincere sympathy
of our entire community. Ilis re
mains were interred in Pinewood
cemetery at 5 o’clock Sunday after
noon, Hev. J. C. Davidson conduct
ing the services. A large concourse
of sorrowing friends were present to
pay a last tribute to the memory of
the deceased, A number of rela
tives from LaGrange were also pres
ent at the funeral.
The Epworth League held a de
lightful social meeting at the resi
dence of Mr. W. E. Palmer Friday
evening. It. was largely attended
way Secretary. The fivo Vice-Pres
idents wore from different, points in
the county with a view to having
special supervision of the work with
in their community. The music ren
dered during the convention under
tlie supervision of Miss Stella Burns
was especially good and was very
heartily enjoyed hy all present.
Hev. H. M. Quillian and family re
turned Tuesday evening after an ab
sence of three weeks spent, in visit
ing relatives in the state. During
the greater part of the time Bro
Quillian has been working in revival
meetings.

Miss Lizzie Houston returned
Monday from a delightful visit to
Opelika.
Miss Evie Phillips left Monday for
her heme in Opelika after a pleasant
visit to Miss Carrie Hill.
Miss Lila Rabun, of Guyton, Ga.,
is expected here to-day, Wednesday.
She will be the guest of Miss Lucy
Lanier.
J. W. Burdette returned Monday
from a pleasant visit to relatives in
Lee county, Ala., near Farmville
church.
Invitations have been received
here announcing the marriage of
Miss Pearl Odell Greene to Mr. Eg
bert Jones, at the Methodist church,
Tifton, Ga., on Sept. 9. Mr. Jones
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. A.
Jonos of this city. He is well and
favorably known here and has the
best wishes of a host of friends.
The Inter-State School of Music
opens Monday, Sept. 6th. The hours
for receiving pupils from the Public
School being limited, all wishing to
secure desirable lesson periods are
requested to apply at once.

friends here regret to part with him
and his estimable family, but hearti

The Troup County Suuday School
Association held its annual conven
tion here last Thursday. There
were a good number of delegates,
though not as many as we had ex
pected. Many of our housekeepers
who had prepared for delegates were
disappointed because there were not
more to be entertained. Both the
morning and afternoon sessions were
well attended and the program was
one of interest and profit. Presi
dent Thornton and Secretary Schaub
clearly evinced their fitness for the
positions they occupy and the busi
ness of the association was promptly
despatched. Some interesting and
instructive talks were made on the
Superintendent and the Teacher by
Prof. L. P. Smith, Rev. J. F. Eden,
Rev. J. C. Davidson, B. H. Palmer,
J. L. Askew, Mr. L. C. Davis, Dr.
Petty, Mr. Smith, G. W. Poer, and
others. Reports were rendered from
23 out of the 33 Sunday Schools in
the county ‘showing a total enroll
ment in these 23 schools of 1117 and
that from their ranks 177 had united
with the different churches during
the past year. By resolution each
school in the county was requested
to take a special collection the first
Sunday in October to help forward
the state work. It is hoped by this
means to raise at least fifty dollars in
the county. West Point was honor
ed in having the President and Sec
retary for another year chosen from
among her citizens. G. W. Poer was

erts et al. vs. M. E. Williams et al. au
