Atlanta, June 29.—What promises
Trained For The Job
Efficiency! The twentieth century standard by
which the world measures those selected to do big
things.
The MAN himself being satisfactory, the next
thought is of his training and ability.
Representing a great stute like Georgia in the United
States Senate is u big thing—a full-grown man's job—
if it is attended to properly.
JOHN M. SLATON is a full-grown public man.
His ability has never been questioned.
Two decades of training in the service of YOU—the
people—comprises an apprenticeship which should
equip him for the office.
SLATON served eight years in the Legislature—in
the ranks.
SLATON was then twice chosen Speaker—unani
mously—and served four years more.
SLATON made a great Speaker—the best on record,
say those who know—because he had trained for it.
SLATON was then elected to the Senate, twice—and
was elected President twice—unanimously both times
—and he was a great President of the Senate—because
he hud trained for the job.
SLATON was Acting Governor a short time. You
remember how well he filled the office, temporarily.
It was because he had been training for sixteen years.
SLATON wus then elected Governor, practically
unanimously; not only because he was popular, but
because his trained fitness had been proven.
SLATON has carried out in full his legislate program
in a year. He succeeded because he knew the job. He
had trained for it seventeen years.
Farmers and doctors are not made in a day. Neither
are statesmen. They must learn. They must work up.
They must train.
SLATON lias learned, he has worked up, he has
trained. Efficient public service supplanted ephemeral
bombast. Results have counted. Knowledge of duty
well done has meant more to Slaton than public
applause.
YOU—the people—need a trained man for Senator.
We offer you the best trained man in Georgia—JOHN
M. SLATON.
Examine the records.

“SEND SLATON TO THE SENATE”
B.: Slaton has never been a candidate, reul or prospective, for
any place for which he had not prepared himself by long
and earnest service, and (or which he was not properly in
lino. Maybe that * the reason he has never had serious
opposition.

to develop into u red hot prohibition
campaign is on in the Georgia legis
lature with the introduction of the
beer versus neat' beer question. For
several sessions, both liberals and
prohibitionists have been wary of
touching the question, knowing it was
“hot at both ends" and being content
to bear the ills they had rather than
fly to others which might be worse.
But the members from Bibb county,
Mr. Wimberly in the house and Sen
ator McNeill in the senate, have fired
the first gun by introducing bills to
legalize the sale and manufacture of
. eal Itecr and also to reduce the
minimum sentence for selling whis
key from one year to three months.
Immediately there was a buzzing and
a bustling in the ranks of the pro
hibitionists. There will come a test of
strength on these bills. If the'
liberals win it will mean something
more in the way of liquor legislation.
If the prohis triumph they will not
stop there but will tie a still harder
knot in the whiskey traffic. So there
you are.
The house has signified its rock-
ribbed Democracy by passing a
resolution endorsing the administra
tion of President Wilson.

Affairs of A. B. & A.
Have Been Adjusted
LEI' US HOPE THE NEW A., B. &
A. WILL HAVE BETTER FOR-
v.w TUNE.
It is gratifying to know that the
affairs of the Atlanta, Birmingham
and Atlantic Railroad have been
satisfactorily adjusted, and that road
is to be put in thoroughly efficent
working order immediately.
The A., B. & A. has had many
vicissitudes of fortune since it was
organized a few years ago, but what
ever of past trouble it may have ex
perienced, it is to be hoped that un
trammeled porsperity will be its por
tion in the future.
The A., B. & A. traverses a par
ticularly fine section of Georgia.
Along its way are many growing cit
ies and towns that, need its service
every day. It cuts through hundreds
of the prettiest and best farms in
Georgia. It links Atlanta and Birm
ingham with the coast and the won
derful South Georgia section. It is
one of Georgia’s arteries of commerce
that ought at all times to be kept
rich with good red blood!
It is stated that the road as re
organized is to be far more efficient
for service than ever it was before.
The numerous financial difficulties
with which it has been beset no lon
ger will harass it. It will be able to
lend a hand all along its right of way,
that the story of your good times may be recorded and preserv
ed among your collection of treasures.
