Singing School Closes.
Prof. Haynes singing school which
has been in progress for the past two
weeks, closed last Friday with an
“all-day singing and dinner on the
ground,” at Harmony church. Nearly
all of our community was on hand
and a good many from surrounding
places, some fine singing was heard
and the bountiful and appetizing
spread at noon was very much enjoy
ed by all present.

Mrs. Lovyce Shank has returned
home after spending several months
with her daughters, Mrs. Camp and
Mrs. Creele in Carrollton.
She was accompanied home by Mrs.
Camp who spent several days.
Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Ector are at
home to their friends till January
1 with Mr. and Mrs. Ector, Sr.
Death of Mr. Zach Reid.
The many friends of Mr. Zach Reid
are deeply grieved over his death,
which occurred Thursday night. Three
weeks ago Dr. Willis Jones, of Atlan
ta, performed an operation and dis
covered cancer of the stomach. Since
that time the whole town has been
under a gloom for it was known that
he could not recover. He was only
34 years old, but his young life had
been well spent, and was full of love
and happiness. He had been married
only three years to Miss Annie Brad-
field of McRae.
, He left his young wife his father
>and a sister and brother to mourn his
untimely death.
May God speak peace to the souls
iof the bereaved.
Miss Maude Brown, after spending
several weeks in Elberton, is at home
again.
Mr. Joseph Culpepper of Americus,
spent the week with relatives.
Miss Hettie Brazell has returned to
her home in Atlanta, after a pleas
ant visit to Mrs. W. A. Trimble.
Mrs. A. W. McGahee, of Atlanta, is
visiting relatives this week.
Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Hogan are
spending some time in Carrollton.
Miss Inez Johnson entertained a

Mrs. Murphy, of Moreland, was the

Mr. S. N. Reid spent Monday in
Atlanta.
Mrs. Will J. Callahan, a returned
missionary from Japan, and her in
teresting family, Misses Margaret and
Jean and Master Will, were the guests
of Rev. and Mrs. A. S. Hutchinson
last week. Rev. and Mrs. Callahan
have spent the last 25 years in Japan,
and are acquainted with some of the
hardships and difficulties that mis
sionaries have to endure.
Misses Margaret and Jean have
spent the last two years at senool in
Athens, and will leave in a few days
for the University at Fayetteville,Ark.
Rev. Callahan is on a furlough and is
expected daily to arrive on the Em
press of Asia.
Sunday afternoon at the Methodist
church Mrs. Callahan entertained a
large congregation with a splendid
lecture, and she and her family sang
several songs in Japanese. It was a
very interesting occasion and was en
joyed by every one.
Rev. J. W. B. Braham is holding a
series of services at the Baptist
church, which is being greatly-en-

The summer term of school closed
last Friday and the teachers have
gone home to spend vacation.

the Misses Smiths of LaGrange.
Miss Mary Hall is spending some
time with her aunt, Mrs. M. E. Wood
of West Point.
Misses Anna Truitt and Maggie

hour delicious cake and cream were
served by Misses Bera Hall, Blanche

Humphries and Grady Haynes.
The guests departed thanking both
host and hostess for so pleasant an
occasion.
Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Hall have been
enjoying some fine watermelons,
Messrs. J. G. Truitt and R. C. Key of
LaGrange were invited out one af
ternoon last week to help eat one that
weighed about seventy-five pounds.
Mr. and Mrs. Hall also entertained
several of their grandchildren last
Sunday.
