WOMAN’S CLUB NOTES.
' in the rendition of the oratorio St.
Paul last Thursday evening the
Woman’s Club feels that it has justi
fied its existence as a club even if it
had accomplished nothing else It
was the great pleasure of the club
to present this beautiful musical treat
to the people of LaGrange in recogni
tion of the many kindnesses shown
the club members by the merchants
and other generous citizens.
We desire to thank those whose en
thusiasm led them to contribute
something to the expense of the en
tertainment, and to say that this con
tribution was used to pay for the pro
grams, janitors and such expense con
tingent to giving an entertainment at
any public place.
This contribution saved us from
the necessity of taking any further
funds from our treasury than the
amount we had already raised for Mr.
Drukenmiller’s assistance.
Those who are interested realize
the great effort that is being made
just now to raise a sum of one thous
and dollars by January first when we
hope to take some steps toward ac
quiring a home which will be used as
a public library and rest room.
There will be a musical at Mrs. W.
E. Morgan’s Friday afternoon, Oc
tober 30 from 3 to 4:30 o’clock.
The program will be furnished by
children entirely.
A silver offering will be taken for
the benefit of the building fund of
the Woman’s Club. Children and . par
ents are cordially invited.
JThe Woman’s Club begs to ac
knowledge the following gifts;
From Dozier’s Pharmacy 6.21
From Milam Soda Fount .... 5.00
From Mr. C. E. Market 5.00
From LaGrange Dry Goods Co. 30.89
From Mrs. F. E. Callaway ....10.00
And to 'assure each one of these
contributors that their gifts are
greatly appreciated.
A bazar will be held in the dining
room of the Park Hotel, commencing
Wednesday, November 11. There will
be five booths where Christmas pres
ents may be obtained very cheap und
where lunches and drinks will be sold.
There will be music and some Sort
of free entertainment each evening.
This will be under the auspices of
the club.
The Woman’s Club received the bid
for restaurant privileges at the Fair,
and Mrs. W. H. Harris, who has
charge of it will appreciate the pa
tronage of both town and country
people. 8he will serve the well-known
Corless Brunswick stew and coffee and
sandwiches. She asks those club
members who can assist her to please
notify her.
Dr. Frank Ridley, Jr., entertained
Mr. Drukenmiller and the singers,
who assisted in giving the oratorio
with a most delicious 'possum supper
at the City Cafe after the perfor
mance last Thursday night.
The “’possum and taters” were
cooked to a turn and were greatly en
joyed by all those who had the pleas
ure of accepting Dr. Ridley’s graci
ous hospitality. _ „
Mrs. A. S. Dunson, Mrs. R. D. Ren
der and Mrs.' Clifford Smith left
Tuesday in Mrs. Render's car for
Albany, where they will represent
the club at the Federation meeting.
Mrs. Smith will visit in Dothan, Ala.,
and Columbus the week following the
Federation meeting.
The next general meeting of the
Woman’s Club will be with Mrs. C.
M. Awtrey, 'Thursday, November 19
instead of November 12, November 12
being one of the days of the bazar.
