THE DAILY TIMES.
THE CITY.
_ —_ ,
Theatre—Edwin Booth.
Messrs. Crisp A Canning seemed determined
that we shall have no “dark term” during their
Theatrical management, for as one /‘Star” fades
away another rises in its place.
To-night Edwin Booth makes his first appear
ance before a Columbus audienoe, as Hamlet.
If not the greatest actor now on the American
boards, it is generally conceded, that he has exhi
bited powers which whenjfully developed*by time
and study, will place him without a rival—as the
best tragodian of of his day.
Competent critics have pronounced his Ham
let unexceptionable, and many have declared it
to boas much his master-piece, os was Richard
111 that of his talented and lamented father.—
It will be rank injustice to young and rising
greatness, to managerial deserts, and a most mor
tifying comment upon the liberality and taste of
our people, if he be not greeted with a crowded
house.
Obstinacy.— W. N. Hutchins, Esq., received
quite a number of votes on Saturday for Aider
man, after several public notifications that he
was not a candidate. Did his friends intend
to compliment him, or did. they mean to force
him to serve if elected?
The Election.
We give the following names of the officers
elected in this city.
Mayor—Holstead.
Marshal—Hughes.
Deuyty— Huckeba.
Clerk City Council—Stratton.
Treasurer —Mitchell.
Sexton—Harris.
DAILY COMMERCIAL RECORD
Columbus, Deo. 12.
The receipts on Saturday amounted to 568
bales, and the sales to 120 bales. No change in
the market.
Twenty Years’ experience have tested the vir
tues of Dr. Wistar's Balsam of Wild Cherry, and
the result is that it is the best remedy extant for
pulmonary and lung disease; embracing tire
whole range from a slight cold to confirmed con
sumption. Were it not for its merits, it would
long since have “died and made no sign.”
There’s a vile counterfeit of this Balsam,
therefore be sure and buy only that prepared by
S.W. Fowli A Cos., Boston, which has the writ
tun signature of I. BUTTS on the outside wrap

Se tarnber 6, 1859—dwtf.
JJ&g* Scorbutic diseases arc the parent stock
from which arises a large proportion of the
fatal maladies that afflict mankind. They are as
it were a species of potajtoe rot in the human
constitution, Whioh undermines and corrupts all
the sources of its vitality and hastens decay.—
They are the germ from which springs Consump
tion, Rhoumatism, Heart disease, Liver Com
plaints, and Eruptive Diseases which will be re
cognized among those most fatal and destructive
to the races of men. So dreadful are its conse
quences to human life, that it is hardly possible
to over estimate the importance of an actual, re
liable remdy, that can sweep out this scrofulous
combination. We know then wo shall proclaim
wolcomo news to our readers, of one from such a
quarter as will leave little doubt of its efficacy—
and still more welcome, when wo assure them,
that it really does accomplish the end desired.—
We mean Ater’s Sarsaparilla, and it is cer
tainly worthy the attention of those who are af
flicted with Sorofula < or Sorofulous complaints.—
