gray camel's-hair, with. plastron, sleeve
>ps and collar of pale blue mirror vel
vet. The skirt is of circular shape, closed
in the back by incans of small tabs, and
trimmed to simulate a tunic, with double
shaped ruffles cut very scant, and pro
ducing only waving lines, which are fin
ished wit a narow stitched band of a dark
->r srode of gray velvet. Two similar
* flounces ornament the bottom of the skirt,
which measures four yards. The ruffles
of thctunic round narrowly up to the
■ waist, which is stitched smoothly across
p'o bust, where it is cut in deep points,
under which are dainty frills of taffeta
silk with needlework edge. The shoulders

' brightest and funniest of modern farces.
The story 13 told ae follows:
Ebenezer Goodly, a etai-d professor of
anatomy, who is expecting a visit from his
brother, the bishop of Ballarat, is persua
ded to attend a boxing contest with his
prospective son-in-law. The police raid
the place, but Goodly and hie young friend
escape by a window and a water spout,
arriving home i na greatly perturbed con
dition. They have been pursued, -not by
the police, as they, supposed, but by Jones,
a drummer for hymn book-s and playing
cards, who is himself a fugitive, and has
laid himself open To the serious charge of
assaulting an officer. Jones, to escape,
follows Goodley into the house, and de
mands protection as the price of his si
lence respecting the tscapadcs of the pro
fessor. ‘He has the assurance and ready
wit of a drummer, and before the other
characters know what to do he has donned
the garb of the visiting bishop, and meets
the police in this disguise. He also meets
the family and it becomes necessary to
keep up the deception, notwitstanding the
arrival of the real bishop. The complica
tions that ensue may be imagined, for
there Ls a maiden lady waiting to be
claimed by the 'bishop, and Jones 'falls in
love with Goodly's ward; there are daugh
ters in the case and the police are seeking
for Jones.
The dramatic critics everywhere have
united in saying that “My Friend from
MARGARET OTIS.
India,” is funny—very funny, —absurdly
funy—outrageously funny. They went to
see it, prepared to analyze, and stayed to
laugh. In fact to indulge in the most ex
travagant hilarity. One of the soldns
sa'd: “Criticism halts abashed and ama
zed before ‘My 'Friend from India.’ The
thing ratles along consistently inconsist
ent and plausibly implausible to the end.
IC'S just funny, that’s all.” Well that is
what people want nowadays at the thea
ter,. at least the majority of theater
goers do. The auhor of this piece, it is
evident, has not sought the drama as a
medium for the communication to the
world of a Message, With a capital “M.”
e has simply manufactured a wholesome,
noisy, frank, kittenish farce that is full
of real fun, and what is more strange,
contains a number of novel and ingenious
devices. The players who will present it
here are equally candid purveyors of non
sense.

trimmed in corresponding fashion. The
same decoration Is carried out around the
collar, and finishes the wrists of the very
small mutton-leg sleeves. Antique silver
buttons adorn the points of the corsage,
as well as the straps of the skirt. The
proper cut of the gown can be obtained
only from the cut paper patterns pub
lished by Harper's Bazar, where the gown
appears.
The gray French felt ha: ‘is trimmed
with two long curling plumes of gray,
which are separated in front by a square
bow of velvet.
Quantity of material— Camel’s-hair
goods. 10 yards; gray velvet, 2 yards; blue
velvet, 1 yard.

nah and Atlanta via Macon, Macon and Albany via Smithville, Macon and Birming
ham via Columbus. Elegant sleeping cars on trains No. 3 and 4 between Macon
and Savannah and Aalanta and Savannah. Sleepers for Savannah are ready for occw
pancy in Macon depot at 9:00 p. m. Pas-sengers arriving in Macon on No. 3 and 8a
vannah on No. 4, are allowed to remain in sleeper until 7 a. m. Parlor cars between
Macon and Atlanta on trains Nos. 1 and 2. Seat fare 25 cents. Passengers for
Wrightsville, Dublin and Sandersville take 11:25. Train arrives Fort Gaines
4:45 p. m., and leaves 10:10 a. m. Sundays. For Ozark arrives 7:30 p. xn. and leaves
