The Cotton Catbri»!llar--To the surprise
I of the merchants, factors, and all others en
gaged in the cotton trade, dispatches were
exhibited on the cotton market, coming from
sources in Florida said lo be entirely reliable
and trustworthy, stating that the genuine
cotton caterpillar, the veritable destroyer of
the cotton plant, which has for several seas-
■ ons past proved to be the most determined
adversary that the planter of the long staple
I ootton has ever had to contend with, had
made its appearance in Florida in an unmin-
. takable form. Should this intelligence indi
cate that the unfortunate planters of the sea
board and Florida are to have another disas
trous season, hard, indeed, will be their for
tune. Should the weather in the future
however, prove uncongenial to the large de
vclopmem of this insect, we may yet hope
that our seaboard planters will have a sue
| oessful crop year.
