A Clear Case of Disloyally,
"Loyalty” is a word that every hon
est freeman in this country has learn
ed to despise. It has been so perver
ted from its true signification by the
Radical party, that no man with a soul
in his body can respect it, tnncli less
the ilograding idea it is used to con
vey*. It does not belong to this coun
try any wav, or dnl not until our en
tire system was changed from the no
ble political bequest of the revolution
ary fathers. Loyally is a term that
belongs to nations that recognize a di
vino right ol one man to vale over the
rest, and in its true signification im
plies the fidelity of a subjett to his
prince or potentate. Transplanted to
a country where the, people are free
and periodically make choice of their
own yulers, being the source of all
power, if used at all the word must
apply to somebody or something else
than*the head of the, nation. We
have no rulers here—all in authority
are the servants of tho people, the
creatures of their will and voice. A
freeman, therefore, cannot be loyal
to his servant—the creator owes no
loyalty to the creature* The- will ol
the people is the only legitimate sov
ereign of a country like ours, and that
will finds its legitimate embodiment,
not iu the demands of faction or in
evanescent popular clamor, that may
be for one thing to-day and another
thing to-morrow, but iu the written
Constitution, the fundamental Inw of
the laud, deliberately and formally set
up aud proclaimed us a rule ot action
for all, the people who erected it and
the public officers who serve them. It
is lo this ulouc that au American citi
zen can owe allegiauco and loyalty.—
The government itsell is disloyal
when it disregards it, aud is amena
ble to th.o great tribunal of the peo
ple. The idea of charging the people
with disloyalty wlion they hold the
government to that just resposibility,
would be absurd were it not the cun*
ning device ot usurpers and traitors
who would overthrow both the Con
stitution and power ot the people, and
set up their own will and interests an
the supreme law of the land. It has
been the trick oftyramiy in all ages
ol the world.
Yet, however undeserving of the
charge ol disloyalty may be those
who dare toarraigu the officers ot the
government for us rpatiou and disre
gard of tbe Constitution, there a*r
men in our country who a e justly ob

Gen Lee in a New Movement.—
Tho notion of (>cn. Lee, ns President

taking up the movement for practical

Ho proposes to place Washington

doing so the old fashioned institutions
where the arts ot words and of chop,
