_ Stbaxok.Outcskskss—^The Macon Tele
graph seems wholly incapable of comprehend
ing the difference between treating Northern
men respectfully, and even kindly, when
they come among us for lawful purposes, on
the one si4c, and beseeching aud sending
railroad trains hundreds of miles after Radi
cal politicians and avowed enemies of tue
South—and offering them our hats and
coats after they get here for their sublime
condeCension, on the other. We do recog
nize jfhe distinction, snd think the people of
the South agree with us in making it. As
regard^ General Forest’s speech at the Ala
bama railroad celebration—quoted by ahe
Telegraph in con’rast to the sentiments of
the Republican—we cordially approve and
sympathise with the spirit of his remarks.
He said, and our Macon cotemporary won
ders how we publish it approvingly:
*Hence, to-day, burying and forgetting
the past, I gladly meet these northern gen
tlemen, your guests, laboring for your good,
as brothers; with you I accept their efforts
to develop our section, and uniting mine
with theirs, exhort you to the suuic course,
to be followed and crowned with prosperity
peace and unity.”
The public will recognize a vast difference
between these sentiments aud the parties and
occasion that brought them forth, and the
beslavering State Fairfproject of Bullock and
the Telegraph for such creatures as F* rney
and Butler, who, so far from “laboring for
onr good” and engaging in efforts to develop
our section, are using every effort to destroy
our country and enslave our people. We
frankly confess that we do not wish to see
such people, in the South or anywhere else
We have no brotherhood or fellowship for
them. We are too honest to try and in ike
them believe a falsehood, ami too proud to
lick their bauds as they smite us.
