PROPOSALS
For publishing a weekly Paper in the city of Au
gusta, Geo. to bt culled the
N. AMERICAN GAZETTE.
*;■ JHE subscriber proposes to publish a week
. 1 ly paper in Augusta, to be called The N.
American Gazette; and as it will be his endea
vor to make it useful to the public, lie will ven
ture to hope for such a share of patronage as to
insure to himself a reasonable remuneration
for his labors. While so many papers are pub'
lished in Augusta, and some of them so ably
edited, it might be thought perhaps that ait ad
ditional paper was scarcely necessary. But it
is believed, that even-with all the papers now
published here, and even with the daily papers
which, from notices given, are contemplated,
that still a weekly papermay be so conducted,
as to become a very acceptableperiodical, both
to those who take, andto many who do not take
the other publications. How far it may be iu
the power of the publisher of The North Anieri
can Gazette to make it generally acceptable, can
only b. known after the experiment has been
made.—He can however, in advance of thg ex
periment, venture to engage that no efforts ofl>is
shall be wanting to render his paper generally
useful. It will contain an account of the gene
ral occurrences of the day—will present to its
readers all such foreign and domestic intelli
gence as may be supposed to be of an interest
ing or important character—such moral and re
ligious information as may be appropiiate to
such a publication, and such miscellaneous or
political communications, as shall, in the Edi
tor’sjudgment, be calculated to benefit his fel
low-men —and it will he his endeavor to have the
pages of the Gazette diversified wih such occa
sional selections, or original communications,
as may be deemed worthy the attention of such
female readets, as may be willing to patronize
the undertaking.
As to the political complexion of the paper, it
will'be necessary to say but little, as it is not to
be exclusively a political publication—but as far
as political subjects find place in it, that course
only will be pursued, which in the honest judg
ment of the publisher will be best calculated to
promote the substantial good of his fellow men.
In a country like outs, the people all have the
same rights and the same interests : to advance
these interests and to sustain these rights, will
be the endeavor of the publisher of The North
American Gazette, according to the best of his
ability .-and with them, that happy Union of
the United States, on which their preservation
must in his view inevitably depend. To the con
tests of mere party scribblers, he can promise no
countenance. To do good, will bd the Editor’s
endeavo^. —if in this he fails, it shall in no case
be a voluntary failure.
CONDITIONS.
The North American Gazette will be issued
the first''week in October. The materials to be
entirely new; the paper of good quality and
equal in size to any paper now published in the
State.
The publisher pledges to his patrons, thatfthe
mechanical aepartment shall not be surprised
by any newspaper in the Southern Slates.
Price of subscription $3, pgr annum, or $4
if not paid within the year.
jy Persons holding subscription lists, will
please make a return of subscribers by the first
of October next.

The Lawrenccville Herald.
THE dense population of this and the adjofn

be according to the policy and interest of Geor
gia, as regards State Rights, and the propriety
of the removal of all the Indians of the Seulh.—
The South-Carolina doctrine of indiscriminate
Nullification will not be supported by the Her
ald— but the reserved rights of the States will
be pled as the best method of preserving the con
federated Union
The. Herald, in all other cases, shall be a

and movements of importance, not only in Geor

Clergy.
A summary view will be given every week in
the Herald of all important - events that mtjy
transpire in every part-'of the world, as we
may collect it from the Newspapers of the Uni

The location of the Herald in the vicinity of

.will enable us to give alt the Indian anil Gol

same by the Herald, tot. erv section.
