I’BIHE subscriber proposeeto publish a week-

ture to hope for such a share of patrupage as to
insure to himself a reasonable remuneration
for his labors. While so many papers are pub
lished in Augusta, and some of them so ably
edited, it might he thought perhaps .that an ad
ditional paper was scarcely necessary. But it
is believed, that even with all the papers now
published yere, and even with the daily papers
which, from notices given, are contemplated,
that still a weekly papermay be so conducted,
as to become a very acccpiablepnriodical, both
to those who take, andto many who do not take
the other publications, How far it may bo in
the power of the publisher of The North Ameri
can Gazette to tp»ke it generally acceptable, can
only ha known after the experiment has been
made.—He can however, in advance of the ex
periment, venture to engage that no efforts of his
shall be wanting to render his papei genetally
useful. It will contain an account of the gene
ral occurrences of the day-rwill present to its
readers all such foreign and domestic intelli
gence as may he supposed to he of an interest
ing or important character—such moral and re
ligious information, as may be appropriate to
such o publication, and such miscellaneous or
political communications, as shall, in the Edi
tor’s judgment, be calculated to benefit his fel
low-men—and it will be his endeavoi to have the
pages of the Gazette diversified wih such occa
sional selections, or original communications,
as may be deemed worthy the attention of such
female readeis, as may be willing to patronize
the undertaking.
As to the political complexion of the paper, it
wili be necessary to say but little, as it is not to
be exclusively a politica)*publicalioir—but as far
as political subjects find place in it, that course
only will be pursued, which in the honest judg
ment of the publisher will be best calculated to
promote the substantial pood of his Itllow men.
In a country like outs, the people all have the
same rights and the same interests : to advance
these interests and to sustain these rights, will
