LAW OF GEORGTAi
AN ACT to provide lor the call of a
Convention to reduce ilie number ol
the General Assembly of the State
of Georgia, aud for 'other put poses
therein named.
Be it enacted by ti\e Senate and House
of Representatives of the State of Geor
gia in General Assembly met, and it is
hereby enacted by the au'horiiy of the
same, 1 hut the first Monday iu April,
1833, be, and the same is heieby desig
nated and set apart as the day uu which
the citizens of Georgia qualified to vote
for members nt the Legislature, shall at:
the several places prescribed by iaw fur
holding such elections vote for delegates
to represent them in Convention, in num
ber equal to their representation in both
branches of the General Assembly; such
elections to be conducted, managed and
certified tinder the same law as are of
force in respect to eloclions of members
of the General Assembly.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That
it shall be tlie duty of such mamigets to
transmit to his excellency the Governor
the result of said elections under the laws
nowofforce for conducting managing and
certifying elections of members-d' General
Assembly as aforesaid, within 30 days af
ter such elecions—Wheieupun it is made'
the duty of His Excellency the Govern
or to issue his proclamation declaring the
result of said elections by naming the
individuals severally elected to represent
the good people of Georgia in Convention
as contemplated by this act.
Sec. 3, Aud be it further enacted. That
every citizen of the United States shall be
eligible to a seat in said Convention who
has attained the age of twenty five years,
and been an inhabitant of this State seven
years immediately preceding the day of
his election and who shall have resided
one year iu the comity for.wluch lye shall
be elected.
Sec. 4, And be it further enacted. That
each member returned as dtdy elected,
shall previous to taking his seal in said
Convention take the following oath, or
affirmation, viz: I, A. B- do solmnly
swear-, that I will noLattempt to add to,
or take from the constitution or at tempi
to change or alter any other section,clause
or article of the constitution of the S ate
of Georgia, other than those touching the
representation in the General Assembly
thereof; and that I have beeo a citizen
of this state for the last seven years, so
help me God. Aud any person elected
to a seat in said Convention, who shall
tefuse to take the oath aforesaid,shall not
be allowed to take his seat in said Con
vention.
Sec. 5, And be it further enacted, Thai
(be members of said Convention shall
assemble an the first Monday in M.ty af
ter their election, at Millodgeville, in
the Representative Chamber of the State
House, for the purpose of entering upon
and consummating the great objects of
their convention, to-wit: u reduction and
equalization of the General Assembly;
shall h»ve putver to prescribe their own
rules and forms of business, aud to deter
mine on the qualifications of their own
members; elect necessary officers; and
make all orders which they may deem
cenductive to the fuitberancfl of the ob
ject for which such as
semble.
Sec 6, And be it further enacted, Thai
it shall be the duty of His Excellency the
Governot to give publicity lo the altera
tions aud amendments made in the Con
stitution in reference to the diiection [re'
doction] of the number of the members
composing the General Assembly, and
tlie first Monday in October next, after
the rising of ;he)said Convention, he shall
fix for the ratification, of such new arti
cles as they may make for the object of
• eduction and equalization of the Gener
al Assembly only: and if latified by a ma
jor ty of the vo'ers who vote on (heques
ion of “Ratification” or“ No Ratificafmn
then and tu that event, the alterations
so by thorn made and ratified, shall l e
binding op the people of this State and
not otherwise.
Sec. 7 And be it further enacted, That
it shall be a fundamental at tide in the
formation or amendment of the Consti
tution, that each county of the S ate nou
organized or laid out, or which may her
afier be created by law, shall be entitled
to at least one representative in the rep
resentative branch of the General Assem
bly,
Sec. 8, And be it further enabled, That
to sduo as this act shail tiave become a
law, His Excellency the Governor,be, &
he is hereby required to cause it to be
published in the Gazettes of this State,
once a week until the day fixed on by
this act for the election of delegates to
said Convention; and that all laws and
parts of laws militating against this act,
be, the same are hereby repealed

AN ORDINANCE
f| tO regulate the weighing of Fodder, Hay
Y and Oats in bundles brought to *he city of
Augusta in wagons, or carts for sqle by weight.
Skc. Ist. Be it ordained by the City Council
of Augusta, That all Fodder, Hay and Oats
brought to this city io wagons or carts tor sale,
shall be Weighed at the scales prepared for that
purpose near the lower market.
SfcC 2d. Be it further ordained, That it shall
oe the duty of the clerk of the lower market to
superintend the weighing of all Fodder, Hay and
Oats, at all hours of the dav, from sun rise till
sun set. And tha party selling such Fodder,
Hay or Oats, shall pay to the said clerk fifty cts.
01 each wagou, and twenty-five cents for each
cart or dray.
SeC. Sd Be it further ordained. That every
person who Shall violate the provisions of this
Ordinance, may be fined in a sum not exceeding
Twenty Dollars.
