LAW OF GEORGIA*
AN ACT to provide for the call of a
Convention to reduce the number o(
ihe General Assembly of the State
of Georgia, and for o/her purposes
therein named.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House
of Representatives of the State of Geor
gia in Genera! Assembly met , and it is
hereby enacted by the au'horily of the
same, 1 Hat tho first Monday in April,
1833, be, and the same is hereby desig
nated and set apart as ihe day on which
the citizens of Georgia qualified to vote
for members of the Legislature, shall at
the several places prescribed by law for
holding such elections vote for delegates
to represent them in Convention, in num
ber equal to their representation in both
branches of ihe General Assembly; such
elections in be conducted, managed and
certified onder the same law as are of
force in respect to elections of members
of the General Assembly.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That
it shall be the duty of such managers to
transmit to his excellency the Governor
tlie result of said elections under the laws
now of force for conducting managing and
certifying elections of membersof General
Assembly as aforesaid, within 30 days af
ter such elec'ionsv—Whereupon it is made
the duty <>f His Excellency ihe Govern
or to issue his proclamation declaring the
:esuli of said elections by naming ihe
individuals severally elected to represent
the good people of Georgia in Convention
as contemplated by this act.
Sec. 3, And be it further enacted, That
every citizen of the United Siales shall be
eligible to a seal in said Conven ion who
has attained the age of twenty five years,
and been an inhabitant of this Safe seven
years immediately preceding the day of
hiselectiou and who shall have resided
one year in the county fn which he shall
be elected.
Sec. 4, And be it further enacted, Thai
each member returned .as duly elected,
shall previous lo taking his scat in said
Convention take the following oath, or
affirmation, viz: f, A. B. do soimnly
swear, that I will not attempt in add 10,
or take from the constitution or attempt
to change or alter any other section,clause
or article of the constitution of the S ate
of Georgia, other than those touching the
representation in the General Assembly
thereof; and that I have been a citizen
of this state for the last seven years, so
help me God. And any person elected
t<> a seat in said Convention, who shall
refuse ro take the ouh aforesaid,shall nor
he allow ed to take his seat in said Con
vention.
Sec. 5, And be il further enacted, Thai
the members of said Convention shaii
assemble on the fiist Monday io JVI ty af
ter iheir election, at Mdledgeville, in
the Representative Chamber of the Stale
House, for the purpose of entering upon
and consummating the great objects of
their convention, to-wit: a reduction and
equalization of the General Assembly;
shall have power to pi escribe their own
rules and forms of business, and to deter
mine on the qualifications of their own
members; elect necessary officers, and
make all orders which they may deem
conductive to the fni tberance *>f the ob
ject for which such Convention shall as
semble.
Sec 6, And be it further enacted, That
it shall be the duty of His Excellency the
Govet not to give publicity to the altera
tions and amendinen's made in the C on
stitution in reference to tire direction [re
duction] of the number of the members
composing the General Assembly, ami
the fitst Monday in October next, after
the rising of the said Convention, he shall
fix for the ratification, of such new arti
cles as they may make for the object of
and equalization of the Gener
al Assembly only: anti if ratified by a ma
jority of the voters who vote on the ques
tion of “Ratification” or“ No Ratifica/ion
then and in that event, the altoiatioirs
so by them made and ratified, shall l e
binding on ihe people of this State and
not otherwise.
Sec. 7 And be it further enacted ’, That
it shall be a fundafpenini article in the
formation or ameiulincnt of the Consti
tution, 'bat each county of the State now
organized or laid out, ot which may her
afer be created by law, shall be entitled
to ai least one representative in the rep
resentative branch of the Genet al Assem
bly .
Sec. 8, And be it further enacted, That
so so»*n as this act shall tiave become a
law, His Excellency the Gove? nor,be, &,
lie is hereby required to cause it to be
published in the Gazettes of this State,
once a week until the day fixed on bv
this act for the election of delegates o
said Convention; avd that all laws and
parts of laws militating against this act,
be, the same are hereby repealed

of Augusta, That ail Fodder, Hay and Oats
-bfousht to this city ir. wagons or carts for sale,
shall be weighed at the scnles prepared for that
purpose near the lower market
Skc. 2d. Be it further ordained, That It shall
ae the duty of the clerk of the lower market to
superintend the weighing of all Fodder, Hav and
Oats, at all hours of the day. from sun rise till
sun set. And tha party selling such Fodder,
Hay or Oats, shall pay to the said clerk fifty cts
or each wngou, and ’twenty-five cents for each
cart or dray
Sec 3d- Be it further ordained, That every
person who shall violate the provisions of this
Ordinance, may he fined in a sum not exceeding
Twenty Dollars.
