In future, the following rule, and regulations
hre to be observed :
Ist. The duties of the Assistant Postmasters
General. Chief Clerk and Subordinates, are dis
tributed into three divisions.
The first, the Southern Division, under the
superintendence of C. K. Gardner, the Senior
Assistant, w>ll comprise the States of
Virginia,(with the Di. t. of
Columbia, f Louisiana,
North Carolina, Arkansas Territory,
South Carolina, Tennessee, .
Georgia, Kentucky,
Florida Territory, Indiana,
Alabama, Illinois,
Mississippi, Missouri.
The second, the Northern Division, under the
superintendence of S. R. Hobbie, Assistant, will
comprise the States of
Maine, New York,
New Hampshire, New Jersey,
Vermont. Delaware,
Massachusetts, Maryland,
Rhode Island, Pennsylvania,
Connecticut, Ohio,
and Michigan Territory.
Each of these Divisions shall embrace an
office qf Appointments and Instructions, and an
office of Mail Contracts; the office of Mail Dep
redations to remain as at present organized, aux
iliary to both.
3d. To each of these Divisions shall be as
signed four Corresponding Clerks, two for the
office of Mail Contracts, and two for the Office
of Appointments and Instruction*, a Contract
Clerk, an Appointment Clerk, a Route Book
.aClerk'a Recording Clerk, and Clerks for regis
tering orders, fines and other miscellaneous
duties.
4th. One of the Corresponding Clerks in each
Division, shall be designated as the principal
Clerk of the Division. .
sth. The Senior assistant will be charged with
the business of procuring Mail Portmanteaus,
Canvass Bags, Locks and Keys, and with all
the incidental duties. A clerk shall be assigned
io aid him in their performance, who, under the
direction of the Assistants, respectively, s all
keep the registry of the checks countersigned
by them.
'6th. The business of forwarding Blanks for
Accounts, Locks, Keys, Po.t Office Lists. Laws,
kc. shall be performed under the direction of
Ahe Assistants, within their respective Divisions.
7th. The principal Clerk of the Division only,
shall sign official correspondence, and that, in
case of the absence of the Assistant.
Gih. The third division, will be that of finance,
under the superintendence of the Chief Clerk,
O B Brows, who shall be the Treasurer of the
Department. There shall be under his control
the "Book Keepers,” the "Solicitor’s Office,"
the "Pay Office.” the "Examiner’s Office,” the
"Register’s Office,’’ and the "Dead Letter Of
fice, to the last of which shall. ba attached the
business of the general letter file.
9th. No money shall be paid into the Depart
ment. directly to the Treasurer, nor paid out of
it, directly by him. _____

AN ORDINANCE
TO regulate the weighing of Fo<ider, Hay
and Oats in bundles brought to the city of
Augusta in wagons, or carts for sale by weight.
Sxc. Ist. Be it ordained by the City Council
of Augusta, That ail Fodder, Hay and Oats
brought to this city in wagona or carts for sale,
shall be weighed at the scales prepared for that
purpose near the lower market.
3kc. 2d. Be it further ordained, That it shall
be the duty of the clerk of the lower market to
superintend the weighing as all Fodder, Hay and
Oats, at all hours of the day, from sun rise till
sunset. And tha party selling such Fodder,
Hay or Oats, shall to the said clerk fifty cts,
or each wagon, and twenty-five cents for each
cart or dray.
Sxc. 3d- Be it further ordained, That every
person who shall violate the provisions of this
Ordinance, may be fined in a sum not exceeding
Twenty Dollars.
Done in Council the 6th day of Dec. 1832.

Treasury Department,

IN the late conflagration of the Tresury build
ing, nearly <JI the totrespondence of the Sec.
retary of the Treasury, from the establishment
to the 12sl March, 1833, was destroyed, including,
as well the original letteis and Communications
addressed to the Secretary of the Treasury, as
the records of the letters and communications
written by him. With a view to repair the loss,
as far as may be practicable all officers of the U
nited States, are 1 equested to cause copies to be
prepared, and authenticated by them, of any let
ters texcepting those hereinafter alluded to)
which they may at any time have written to, or
received from, the Secretary of the Treasury ;
and all those who have been in office, aid other
individuals throughout the United States, and
elsewhere, are invited to do the same That this
correspondence may be arranged into appropri •
ate books, it is requested that it be copied on fo
lio foolscap paper, with a sufficient margin on
all sides to admit of binding, and that no more
thbu one letter be contained on a leaf. It is also
requested, that the copies be written in a plain
and distinct or engrossing hand Where the or
iginal letter can be it-wouhl be prefered.
The reasonable expense incurred in copying the
papers now r< quested, not exceeding the rate of
ten cents forevery hundred words, will be defray
ed by the Department.
The correspondence which has been saved,
and of which, therefore, no copies are desired,
are|the recoids of the letters written by the Secre
tary of the Treasury to Presidents and Cashiers
Banks, from the Ist October, 1819, to the 20th of
Febuary, 1833, all the correspondence relating
to Revolutionary cairns nnder the act of 15th
May, 1826, and to claims of Virginia officers to
half pay, under the act of the sth July, 1831 ;
and to applications for the benefits of the acts
of 2d March, 1831, and 14th July 1832, for the
relief of certain insolvent debtors of the United
States. Copies of some citcclar letters and in
structions, written by the Secretary, have also
been preserved ; and it is requested that, before
a copy be made of any circular letter dr instruc
tion, Written by the Secretary of the-Treasury,
the date and object of the circular be first stated
to the Department, and it wishes on the subject
ascertained. ~ .

RAN AW AY from Raytown, Wilkes county,
Geo. on the 24th day of April, a very bright
mulatto Negro Giri named MARTHA,
or {Martha Evant,) 16 or 18 years of age, takes
the name of Evans from her first master’s name,
marks features inclined to be a little freckled
when closely examined, roman nose, well pro
portioned, near 5 feet high, her hair a little light,
though not so straight as many mulattoes; noth
ing like as white as she is; at times wears ladies
false hair, commonly wearsear rings, and dress
es neat. Any person apprehending said girl and
committing her to jail, will receive the above re
ward. It is thought she will try to pass for a
white lady, or endeavor to get to a free State.
Stages, Steam Boats and other vessels, or Car
riages of any kind are notified not to receive
such a girl with a pass or without it, or harbor
ing said girl; otherwise the law will be putin full
force to the extent of my purse against any per
son, if found out. She was raised by Mr. Amory
Sibley, of Augusta, and was lately owned by Mr.
B. Baird, of Augusta. Any information respect
ing said girl will be thankfully received.

HAWKINS BULLOCK, who can read very
well, was lost on the 16th March,.six miles east
of Courtland, near the road leading to Decatur.
Hundreds of men have searched in every direc
tion throughout the neighborhood, and nq (race
of her can be found. The above reward will be
given for her delivery, and any information re
specting her whether dead or alive, thankfully
received.

His return on the first of August next may be
anticipated, and his utmost endeavors to render

Brought to Augusta Jail,
ON the 30th April, 1833, a Negro Man, who
calls himself HENRY, says he belongs to
Parker Callaway of Wilkes County, Georgia,
near Washington. Henry, is 5 feet 7 inches
high ; dark complexion, and about 29 or 30
years old, both of his hands and htg tight foot
are very much injured by a burn.
Owner of said Negro, is requested to come
forward, prove property, pay expences and take
him away.
