are to be observed: .
Ist The duties of the Assistant Postmasters
General. Chief Clerk and Subordinates, are dis
tributed into three divisions.
The first, the Southern Division, under the
superintendence of C. K. Gardner, the Semoi
Assistant, w«ll comprise the States of
Virginia, (with the Di Los
Columbia,} Louisiana.
North Carolina, Arkansas Territory.
South Carolina, Tennessee,
Georgia, Kentucky,
Florida Territory, J“ d,a .“ a »
Alabama, Illinois,
IVs Missouri.
The second, the Northern Division, under the
superintendence of S. R. Hobbik, Assistant, will
comprise the Stales of
Maine, New York,
New Hampshire, ’ New Jersey,
Vermont, Delaware,
Massachusetts, Maryland,
Rhode Island, Pennsylvania,
Connecticut,
and Michigan Territory.
2d. Each of these Divisions shall eirtbpice an
office of Appointments and Instructions, and an
office of Mail Contracts; (he office of Mail Dep
redations to remain as at present organized, aux
iliary to both. . . . i ■
3d. To each of these Divisions shall be as
signed four Corresponding Clerks, two foi the
office of Mail Contracts, and two for the Office
of Appointments and instructions, a Contract
Clerk an Appointment Clerk, a Route Book
Clerk’a Recording Clerk, and Clerks for regis
tering orders, fines and other miscellaneous
dl 4th. One of the Corresponding Clerks in each
Division, shall be designated as the principal
Clerk of the Division.
sth. The Senior assistant will be charged with
the business of procuring Mail Portmanteaus,
Canvass Bags. Locks and Keys, and with all
the incidental duties. A clerk shall be assigned
to aid him in their performance, who, under the
direction of the Assistants, respectively, s all
keep the registry of the checks coun'eisigned
bv them.
6th. The business of forwarding Blanks for
Accounts, Locks, Keys, Post Office Lists, Laws,
&.C. shall be performed under the direction of
the Assistants, within their respective Divisions
'7tH. The principal Cl rk of the Division only,
shall Sigh official correspondence, and that, io
case ol the absence of the Assistant.
Sth. The third division, will be that of finance,
tinder the superintendence of the Chief Clerk,
O B Brows, who shall be the Treasurer of the
Department. There shall be under his control
the “Book Keepers,” the “Solicitor’s Office,”
the “Pay Office.” the “Examiner’s Office,” the
“Register’s Office,” and the “Dead Letter Of
fice, to the last of which shall ba attached the
bu iness of the general letter file.
9th. No money shall be paid into the Depart
ment. directly to the Treasurer, nor paid out of
it, directly by him.
RESOLVE D, That the City Coun
cil of Augusta, will pass An Or
dinance prohibiting the sale or delivery
of intoxicating Liquor to Slaves, within
the limits of the city, after the first day
of October next, without a ticket fr-m
their owners or their agents and that tTTis

TO regulate the weighing of Fodder, Hay
and Oats in bundles brought to the city of
Augusta in wagons, or carts for sale by weight.
Stc. Ist. Be it ordained by the City Council
df Augusta, That all Fodder, Hay and Oats
brought to this city in wagons or carts for sale,
shall be weighed at the scales prepared for that
purpose near the lower market.
Sec. 2d. Beit further ordained, That it shall
be the duty of the clerk of the lower market to
Superintend the weighing of dll Fodder, Hay and
Oats, at all hours of the day, front siin rise till
sun set. And tha party selling such Fodder,
Hay or Oats, shall pay to the said clerk fifty cts.
ot each wagon, and twenty-five cents for each
cart or dray.
Sac. 3d- Be it further ordained, That every
person who shall violate the provisions of this
Ordinance, may be fined in a sum no* exceeding
Twenty Dollars.

TO THE PUBLIC
IN asmuch as the Drawing of the Uni
on Hotel Property Lottery is not com
pleted, it is due to the Public to have a
plain statement of facts. Good Titles to
prize holders, were not published by the
superintendants, till the Bth day of last
September, (the time the Lotterry truly
tame before the Public) to be drawn the
24th day of December thereafter., It
was then postponed tiH the 2d day of this
month, and from casualties could not be
drawn. The proprietor io the first time
given, from the situation of his family,
could not leave Thomaston to sell Tick
ets till the sth day of Dec. &in the last
time from the duties of office, could not
leavetill after the 2d Monday in January.
Therefore he has not had time to sell as
many of the Tickets as lie wishes. He
will make no apology —but still state fact-
He owes the amount of the Lotteiry and
rom the possition of some of his credition
he is compelled to ; ake the un
sold Tickets. To the others he returns
many thanks, and could he bestow cash
as easy as (hanks he would have all paid
It is to be hoped that this indulgence will
be allowed by a generous public. He
has placed the drawing when the Tickets
are sold, or most certainly the, fijst of
next January, ft is the last notice he
shall make, unless he draws before that
time. The drawing shall be final.
It is due to (hose who have bought
Tickets to be informed that the money is
in the hands of respectable Agents, and
in the hands of the Treasuter of the Su
perintendants. Who will return it to
purchase! s, should the Lotteiy, by any
unforeseen circumstance, not be drawn.

IN the late conflagration of the Tresury build
ing, nearly all the correspondence of the Sec
retary of the Freastiry, from the establishment
tothe 12st March, 1833, was destroyed, including.-
as well the original ietteis and communications
addressed to the Secretary of the Treasury, as
the records, of the letteri and communications
written by him. With a view to repair the loss,
as far as may be practicable all officers of the U
nited States, are i equested io .cause copies to be
prepared, and authenticated by them, of any let
ters (excepting those hereinafter blinded to)
which they may at any time have written to, or
received from, the Secretary of-the Treasury
and all those who have been io ai d other
individuals throughout the United States, and
elsewhere, are invited to do the "siidie That this
correspondence may be arranged into appropri*
ate books. it is requested that it be copied on fo
lio foolscap paper, with. a. sufficient margin on
all sides to admit of binding, ared that no more
than ope letter be contained on a leaf. It is also
requested, that the copies be written in a plain
and distinct .or engrossing hand. Where the or
iginal letter can be s ared. it would beprefered.
The reasonai.de expense incurred in copying the
papers now n quested, not exceeding the rate of
ten cents forevery hundred words, will be defray
ed by the Department.
I'he correspondence which has been saved,
and of which, therefore, no copies are desired,
are the recotds of the letters written by the Secre
tary of the Treasury to Presidents and Cashiers
Baeks, from the Ist October, 1819, to the 2bth of
Febuary, 1833, all the correspondence relating
to Revolutionary cairns niider the act of 15th
May, 1826, and to claims of Virginia officers to
half pay, under the act of the 6th July, 1831 ;
and to applications for the benefits Ks the acts
of 2divi»rch, 1831, and 14th July 1832, for the
relief of certain insolvent debtors ; of the United
Copies of some ciicclar letters and in
structions, written bv the Secretary,-. have also
been preserved; and it is requested that, before
a copy be made of any circular letter

James Drayn, of Columbia county, Geo. Wil

and about 15 or 16 years o'd. Owners of said
Negroes is requested to come forward, pay ex

Vft ERE ASlegal notice bad been given by
the Administrator’s of the estate of Wil
liam Fleming of Lincoln County that
they would apply, to the Court of Ordinary for
said county, for leave-to tell the realestate of
said deceased, (except the widow’s dower) and
the Court of Ordinary for said cotlnty, being
satisfied that legal notice bad been given by
the said administrators, of such intended appli
cation and no person appearing <0 object to an
order absolute for the sale of said real estate an
order at Term of said court of Ordinary
passed authorizing the administrators to sell the
real estate of said-deceased • (dower excepted.)
And whereas upon examination of the records
and minutes of said court of Ordinary no such
order is to be found entered. ■ Jl is Ordered,
That James Ramsay'; administrator of said es
tate and the heirs'and distributees thereof or
their legal guardians, and all other persons con
cerned be and appear before the court of Ordi
nary for said county on the first Monday in Ju
ly next, and shew cause, if any, why the said
court shall not cause said order absolute for the
sale of the real estate of William Fleming dece
ased so be enfered on the minutes of the Court.
