of the Assistant Postmasters
General. Chief Clerk and Subordinates, are dis
tributed Into three divisions.
The first, the Southern Division, under the
superintendence of C. K Gardner, the Sentoi

South Carolina, Tennessee,
Georgia, Kentucky,
Florida Territory, Indiana,

The second, the Northern Division, under the
superintendence of S. R. Hobbie, Assistant, will
comprise the States of
Maine, »ew York,
New Hampshire, New Jersey,
•Vermont, Delaware,-
Massachusetts, Maryland.
Rhode Island, Pennsylvania,
Connecticut, -.
and Michigan Territory.
2d Each of these Divisions shall embrace an
office of Appointments and Instructions, and an
office of Mail Contracts; the office of Mad Dep
redations to remain as at present organized, aux
iliary to both. . . „ ,
3d. To each of these Divisions shall be as
signed four Corresponding Clerks, two for the
office of Mail Contracts, and two for the Office
of Appointments and instructions, a Contract
Clerk, an Appointment Clerk a Route Book
Clerk a Recording Clerk, and Clerks for reg.s
tering orders, fines and other miscellaneous
1 4th. One of the Corresponding Clerks in rtf ch
Division, shall be designated as the principal
Clerk of the Division.
6th. The Senior assistant will be charged with
the business of procuring Mail Portmanteaus
Canvass Bags, Locks and Keys, and with all
the incidental duties. A clerk shall be assigned
to aid him in their performance, who. under the
direction of the Assistants, respectively, s al
keep the registry of the checks coumertfignbd
b? 6th. The business of forwarding Bl inks for
Accounts, Locks, Keys, Post Office Lists, Laws
&lc, shall be performed tinder the direction of
the Assistants, within their respective Divisions
7th. The principal Cl-rk of the Division only,
shall sign official correspondence, and that, in
case of the absence of the Assistant
Sth. The third division, will be that of finance,
under the superintendence of the Chief Clerk,

Department. There shall be under Wscontrol
the “Book Keepers,” the “Solicitor s Office,
the “Pay Office.” the “Examiner’s Office, Hie
“Register’s Office,” and the - Dead Letter Of

■business of the general letter file.
9th. No money shall he paid into the.Depart
'ment, directly to the Treasurer, nor paid out of
it, directly hy him. .
RESOLVED, That the City Coun
cil of Augusta, will pass An Or
dinance prohibiting the sale *>r delivery
of intoxicating Liquor to Slaves, within
'the limits of the city, after the first day
of October next, without a ticket from
their owners or their agents and that tTFis

AN ORDINANCE
TO regulate the weighing of Fodder, Hay
and Oats in bundles brought to *he city of
Augusta in wagons, or carts for sale by weight.
Sac. lit. lie it ordained by the City Council
of Augusta. That all Fodder, Hay and Oats
brought to tnis city in wagons or carts for sale,
shall be weighed at the scales prepared for that
purpose near the lower market.
Sec. 2d. Be it further'ordhSned, Tlnrt It shall
be the duty of the clerk of the lower market to
superintend the weighing of all Fodder, Hay and
Oats, at all hours of the day, from sun rise till
sunset. And tha party selling Such Fodder,
Hay or Oats, shall pay to the said clerk fifty cts.
or each wagon, and twenty-five cents for each
. cart ot dray.
S»C. 3d- Be it further ordained, That every
person who shall violate the provisions of this
Ordinance, may be fined in a sum not exceeding
Twenty Dollars.

RA.sAWAY from Raytown. Wilkes county,
Geo. on the 24th day of April, a very bright
mulatto i Negro Girl named MARTHA,
or {Martha Evans,) Hi or 18 years of age, takes
the name of Evans from her first tiiaster’s name,
marks features inclined to be a little freckled
when closely esamiiuM, roman node, well pro
portioned, near 6 feet high, her bait a little light,
though not so straight as many mulattpes ; n<>th
ing like as white as she is; at times wears ladies
false hair, commonly wears ear rings, and dress
es neat. Any person apprehending said girl and
committing her to jail, will receive the above re
ward. It is thought she will try to pass for a
white lady, or endeavor to get to a ftee State.
Stages, Steam Boats and other vessels, or Car
riages of any kind are notified not to receive
such a girl with a-pass or withouj it, or harbor
ing said girl; otherwise the law will be put in full
force to the extent of my purse against any per
son, if found out. She was raised by Mr. Amory
Sibley, of Augusta, and was lately owned by Mr
B. Baird, of Augusta. Any information respect
ing said girl will be thankfully received.

50 Dollars Reward.
INDUCED or Runaway from the subscriber
on Tuesday morning 22d inst. a mulatto Ne
grb Woman, by the name of HETTY, and NAN
CY her daughter, and WILLIAM her son, well
known about Augusta, belonging to the estate of
R M’Coombs. Hetty is a low bright Mulatto
about 41 years of age Nancy is low, rather
darker than her mother, about 15 years of age,
very thick lips WrlHam is a pale mulatto about
10 or 12 years old. The above reward will be
paid Oh conviction of any white person harbor
ing said Negroes; and if taken up as Runaways,
and put in any Jail in this State Fifteen dollars,
or Five dollars for either. They are supposed
to be lurking about Augusta or its vicinity.
Hetty's husband belongs to Mr. Andrew Dill, >
and I nudetstand was in Augusta On Monday, he
is hired out in Brirke corinty, and may have in
duced them to Burke. 1 am determined to
prosecute any person harboring, concealing,or
inveigling said Negroes.

IN asmuchas the Drawing of the Uni
on Hotel Property Lotteryis not com-
leted. it is due to the Public tn have a
plain statement offsets. Good Titles to
prize holders, were not published by the
superintendants, till the Bth day of last
September (the time the Lotterry truly
came before the Public) to be drawn the
24th dfiy of December thereafter. It
was then postponed tiH the 2d day of this
month, and from casualties could not be
drawn. The p'roprietor in lhe first time
given, from the situation of his family,
could not leave Thomaston to sell Tick
ets till the sth clay of Dec. &in the last
ime from the duties of office, could not
leavetill after the 2d Monday in January.
Therefore he has not had time to sell as
many of the Tickets as he wishes. He
wil! make no apology -—but still state fact.
He owes the amount of the Lotterry and
rom rhe position of some of his credition
he is compelled to <ake the un
sold Tickets. To the others he returns
many thanks, and could he bestow cash
as easy as thanks he would have all paid
It is to be hoped that this indulgence will
be allowed by a generous public. He
has placed the drawing when the Tickets
are sold, or most certainly the first of
next January. It is the last notice he
shall make, unless he draws before that
time. The drawing shall be final.
It is due to those who have bought
Tickets tn be informed that lhe money is
in the hands of respectable Agents, and
in the hands of the Treasurer of the Su
perintendents. Who will return it to
purchasers, should the Lottety, by any
unforeseen circumstance, not be drawn.
The unsold tickets are offered with prida,

Treasury Despoilment,
April 12'h 1833.
IN the late conflagration of the Tresury build
ing, nearly «ll the correspondence of the Sec
retary of the Treasury, from the establishment
tothe 12st March, 1833, was destroyed, including,
as well the original letteis and communications
addressed to the Secretary of the Treasury, as
the records of the letters and communications
written by him. With a view to repair the loss,
as far as may be practicable all officers of the U
nited States, are requested to cause copies to be
prepared, and authenticated by them, of any let
ters (excepting those hereinafter allu-’ed to)
which they may at any time have written to,or
received from, the Secretary of the Treasury ;
and all those who have been in office, aid other
individuals throughout the United States, and
elsewhere, are invited to do the same That this
correspondence may be arranged into appropri
ate books, it is requested that it be copied on fo
lio foolscap paper, w itl?*a sufficient margin on
all sides to admit of binding, and shat no more
than one letter he contained on'a leaf. /It isalso
requested, that the copies be written in a plain,
and distinct or engrossingband "Where the or
iginal letter can be s: ared. it would be prefered.
The reasonable expense incurred in copying the
papers now requested, not exceeding the rate of
ten cents forevery hundred words, will be defray
ed by the Department.
The correspondence which has been saved,
and of which, therefore, no copies are desired,
are therecoids of the letters written by the Secre
tary of the Treasury to Presidents and Cashiers
Ba. ks. from the'lst October, 1819,'t0 the 2'»th of
Febuary, 1833, all the correspondence relating
to Revolutionary cairns nnder the act of 15th
May, 1826. and to claims of Virginia officers to
half pay, under the act of the 6th July, 1831 ;
and to applications for. the benefits of the acts
of 2d |Vlarch, 1831, and 14th July 1832,,f0r the
relief of certa'n insolvent debtors of the United
States. Copies of some cilcclar letters and in
structions, written bv the Secretary,' have also
been preserved ; and'it is requested that, before
a copy be matte of any circular letter or instruc
tion, written by the Secretary of Treasury,,
the date and object of the circular be fir t stated
to the Department, and it wishes on the shbject
ascertained.

AT Jacksonb'o'ro’, Scriven county, on the Sth
day of April last, a negro man who says
his name is JO?, and that he belongs to William
White of Eflingiiain county, he is about five feet
high, yellow complexion, and about 25 years
old. He has an iron on bis leg and one round
his neck. The owner is requested to come for
ward, pay expenses and take him away.

IN Jacksonboro’, Scriven county, on the Sth
February last, a Negro Woman, SARAH, a
bout 30 or 35 years old, dark [complexion and
has lost her fore teeth, says she belongs to one
William White, a Negro Speculator, that she run
away about first Feb. from her master in Ham
burg, South-Carolina, anti that her master had
recently brought her from Maryland.
The owner is requested to cpine - forward, pay
expences, prove lhe Negro to be his and take her

ON the 19th inst., a Negro Boy, who, calls
himself SQUIRE, says he belongs to Star
lin'g Evans of Warren County Georgia, near
Sweet Water Squire is 5 feet 5 inches high ;
dark complexion, and about 16 or 18 years old.

On the someday a Negro Man, who says he
belongs to the States of Georgia, named PETER,
says that Mr. Lyman has .he control of him—
Peter is 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion
and about 38 or 40 years old.
Owners of said Negroes, is requested to come
forward, prove property, pay expences and take
him away.
